Mountain bike content focused on gear, destinations and insights.
Hey everyone my name is Sage, and I created TrailSage as a place to combine my love for production with my passion for riding. I'm pretty rough on my gear, and the trails I enjoy riding are technical, so anything I review must hold up to a pretty high standard. But in addition to reviews, I also create exciting destination videos. I'll also share some insights into the things I've learned, and experiences I've had on the MTB.
If you enjoy the content and would like to support the channel join the TrailSage Tribe on Patreon. Membership will get you access to extended cuts, ad free videos, and a lot of other extra perks. Check out the link below to learn more.

Riding The Steepest Gnarliest Slabs at Natalie on My MTB – Roaring Creek, PA – Just Ride Ep. 36
When is a slab just a cliff? We checked out some of the steepest slabs at Natalie on our mountain bikes and were blown away!! Huge thank you to Aaron and his crew for showing us around.
Mountain biking in Pennsylvania just got a whole lot more exciting. If you like tech lines, big slabs, and massive jumps Roaring Creek in PA has you covered. But make sure you get a tour guide because it is a spaghetti maze of trails, and a lot of the good stuff is not on Trailforks. In fact, out of respect to the builders I did not label any of the trails, but if you want to get an idea for the route we took, I left my Strava activity down below.

Since this video was taken, they've added a log shooter over that roller area between the trees, so instead of hitting the roller you hit the log jump, super cool addition and gives some spice to the trail.
I think I saw that in someone else's video. I can't wait to go back and check that out. Thank you for the insight. Sage
Great video, your analysis is spot on. I am 60 years old and I ride MTB and EMTB. I prefer the MTB when the weather is nice, but when it is above 90 degrees you cannot beat the EMTB .I have learned to use the power levels the same as the derailleur, when going into switchbacks and techy situations sometimes I will turn the power off. It becomes very intuitive. Once you and your buddy Sploosh buy one, you will be addicted. It definitely does not stop me from riding my MTB and road bike as I ride to stay in shape also. Not trying to stay you, but you are going to love it when you finally pull the trigger.
Thanks Johnny. I'm counting down the days, lol. I appreciate the feedback and comment. Thanks for watching. Sage
I meant sway not stay, sorry.
for the mtbers who not compete..flat pedal is for you ,safe and cheap..any shoes are fit and if you walk and run with your bike its nice and comportable
Excellent points Alexander. Thanks for watching and commenting. Sage
There is a way to program out the lunge feeling. Watch Sam's bike on levo settings.
Thanks for the advice Thim. If I get another demo with the Levo I will keep that in mind. Sage
My buddy and I hit the OG line on your recommendation. It is awesome. Would love to see it as part of a new Sunday shred mount penn episode!
That's awesome Justin! I'll put it into the works. Although, I might wait till the weather gets a little nicer, lol. Thanks for watching and commenting. Sage
How can you say how light these tires are when you clearly state you ran only one as a rear tire. How would they do if you ran them as a pair? and would they take a little weight off the bike ?
I'm pretty sensitive to how my tires feel and react to the terrain, and for me I could def tell the difference. These reviews aren't scientific and are based on my opinion, but I do my best to illustrate and explain all my statements, sorry if that fell short for you. As for trying the tires on both the front and back, I will prob not being doing that because my experience with the durability of the tire was very bad. Regardless, thank you for watching and commenting. Sage
@TrailSage thank you for an honest review of this tire. Those concerns you mentioned are very noteworthy 👍😁
@@tmayberry7559 No problem, and thank you for the kind words.
Let pain be your guide. Love it. That's exactly what the doctor told me also!
That's awesome Zenia. Good luck with your recovery. Sage
Thank you so much for doing this video!!!
You're welcome Zenia
@6:02 your dad looks a bit like the actor, Jonathan Banks, who played Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul series. 😎👍 Thanks for the to-the-point review on the Shokz Openrun Mini. I have the Aftershokz before they rebranded to Shokz and loved it and still works to this day but I do want to get one with a smaller band such as the Mini because the standard version just sticks out too much.
Lol, I will let him know that, thanks Johnny. As for the headphones, I did the same thing and I think it is def worth the upgrade. I'm still using mine to this day. Sage
Has anyone resolved the issue of them being too tight around the drop section? Not being able to reach the brakes properly is a serious safety issue on my commute. I'm thinking of cutting the bottom section open and putting in a third section but I am not a sewer and it risks ruining the windproofability of these
Yikes! That sounds like a serious problem Hannah. No, I have not heard of anyone having that issue. Perhaps you went a size too small? If you end up cutting off the bottom and sewing a new section LMK how that goes. Sage
Such amazing terrain there. I muat put this on the list
Connecticut has a lot of good riding for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting. Sage
Is there a map for this route? Looking for a route I can stick to for training. Also, thanks for making this video🎉
Hey KC, thanks. Unfortunately I don't have a map of the route, but that whole area around Karakung Drive is beautiful. Sage
Oh, and I have a separate running channel now which you may enjoy www.youtube.com/@trailsagerunning
@@TrailSage thanks for the info 🙌 I just subscribed to your channel👍
What tire pressure do you like with these tires and their size for summer dirt riding?
Perfect timing for this question Jon. I actually just installed a modified CushCore in order to drop the PSI in the tire. I was running 12 to 10 depending on the terrain, but I'm hoping to drop that down to 10 to 8 with the insert. Sage
Thanks for the reply! Im guessing you were able to run higher psi because you have front suspension? I hear a lot of people talk about how bouncy and bad the ride becomes once you get above that 10 psi mark when riding single track..
@@jonzylka9474 The front fork def helps a lot but it's still a bouncy ride. But a lot also depends on the terrain too.
"Help him while I record this....." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 true friend right there.
lol right?!?! #RUclipsLife Thanks for watching Joel. Sage
Zimowe buty i krótkie spodenki?
Always, lol. My legs never seem to get cold once I'm moving. Sage
Great video Sage, I am way behind in watching, but I'll try to catch up over the next couple of days. I totally share your thoughts on the e-bike. I would never fully trade it in for my analogue bike, but having the option to go out on a ride even when my legs are not ready for long hard uphills on the Enduro bike surely makes it worth considering. And I have to be honest with myself. I turned 50 this year and getting into shape takes longer than 10 years ago. And not being in good enough shape oftentimes keeps me from riding my enduro. I have to use my precious riding time for getting in the base level miles on my roadbike just to be able to power up my enduro on long climbs. Riding the Enduro on a rest day? No bleeding way ... at least without a motor. So as soon as my budget allows for it I will pull the trigger for sure!
Right on Christian. Now that we are both getting older I feel your sentiments, and totally agree with your assessment. I'm looking forward to the day when I can also purchase an e-bike for recovery, sessioning and extended miles. Anything that increases my time and fun on two wheels right?!?! Thanks for watching brotha! Sage
Thanks for some good information. As far as Strava goes, I don’t really give a shit what people think :-)
Right on! That is a great attitude to have not just for Strava but for life in general. If you are going through some rib injuries I hope you feel up fast. Sage
Sage! Looking good man, this is Vinny that used to work at mainline cycles. Glad to see you shredding, I was looking up videos of this park and you popped up! Hope all is well.
Yo Vinny!!! Long time brotha, hope you are well. Yeah, we are still getting out there and shredding. I started a new podcast as well called www.youtube.com/@RideLaughPodcast Check it out if you enjoy that sort of content. Hope to catch you on the trails some day. Sage
Any good for a road bike ??
Hmm, good question. I usually prefer a shorter nose on my road saddles, but I suppose that all just comes down to preference. Sage
I always ride at Apache Wash but would like to try a different place. BR seems like a cool place.
I not familiar with Apache Wash but let me know what you think of BR.
Apache wash has a lot of the easy stuff which I like. I would like to try something a little more difficult.
Is this the same as the MJ 902SE?
It looks that way to me, but I can't be certain.
Found out just now online the SE is an updated version of the S not exactly sure on what I'll have a good read through later, one thing I can't see is anything about a battery so guessing the PowerPoint is separate? Alot for a light with no battery if that's the case?
I'm running the seemed 300 on my emtb as still use it for trips and going out on cycle routes with friends I have the cube 2024 action team its a brilliant all round bike for trails and cycle routes etc so on roads a fair bit to! The new magicshine evo 11oo looks nice shorter hight lens to the evo 1700, looks more modern but at price of 600 less lumens I'd need see the side by side, but love magicshine light's one I can say haven't failed on me yet, touch wood haha. Would liked the rear light to be compatible with the app so could use the remote and settings thats my only issue with the rear light.
@@Emtbtoday That would be strange for sure. Mine came with a battery and it's been great. Thank you for the follow up. Sage
Brother i have same problem like you grade 2 ac separation plz guide to me fast recovery I'm only 25 years old and I'm totally upset
Ugh, I'm sorry to learn you are going through the same thing. Unfortunately there is no fast recovery. Make sure you eat clean and get lots of sleep. Those two things will help you more than anything. Once you are cleared for activity take it slow and listen to your body. If you push too hard you will be right back to where you started. Good luck. It gets better I promise. Sage
I just purchased a 24 Levi Turbo. I just adjusted the sag and converted to tubeless so not even one ride in yet. I've done Trexler 3 times and As much as I love park i hate climbs as a 300 lb guy . 5 miles there is my max. Can't wait to return
That's awesome Jose! Trexler is gonna be a whole new experience, LMK how it goes. And congrats on the new whip!
I ran across this video trying to make sure it was okay to bring an ebike to Trexler I guess this answered my question!
Right on Chris. You should be good to go. Thanks for watching. Sage
great video Sage, agreed in everything you said, now would be great having your opinion about the Levos SL or any lightweight ebikes... maybe more playful, nimble, also you can use eco mode therefore work more in your fitness and most importantly have more control of the bike with the slow tech (because of the less weight and less power) thanks again and happy trails man!
Oh heck ya Pepe! Getting my hands on the SL would be a awesome opportunity. A lightweight e-bike would probably suit my needs and style of riding perfectly. Thank you so much for your support on the Pod and this channel. Sage
@@TrailSage yeah if you have the opportunity to try a lightweight midpower emtb would be an excellent topic for the podcast/youtube platforms and of course for having your valuable feedback. You are a great rider, have an nice content for riders here in the northeastern US so my pleasure to support your work! happy trails, thanks again and cheers!
I know this video was three years ago, but... For the last 2 years or so I have not seen a single (NONE) 3 minute preview on any YT videos as a viewer not a creator. I've asked creators if their videos are showing the preview and haven't had one say no, yet. I use Firefox and have searched high and low with no luck for a solution.
That strange Dave. I wish I could help but I'm not a tech guy. I sure you have check all your personal settings right? Might be worth reaching out to RUclips/Google. Sage
@@TrailSage Crazy thing is I was a tech guy for 18 years. Nothing on my side that hasn't been checked, cleared, re-installed, etc.. I know that Google/YT went on attack against Firefox, several years ago. It's when my issues started, just can't seem to find a fix or work around for it anywhere. Has me stumped and that is a hard pill to swallow. Any other browser I try, the previews work great. I just do not want to use any other browser for security. Anyway, thanks for responding. Take care.
@@daveallen63 That was gonna be my next question, to see if other browsers had the same issue. Thanks for the update and good luck Dave. Sage
rode here for my first time a few days ago and this became my favorite line to do. i only have a hardtail at the moment and with it being the end of the season some of the berms were extremely blown out and full of potholes. otherwise the jumps were so sick. only got 2 runs on it as the lift shut down due to high winds and ended out day but i cant wait to go back next year with a full suspension bike and focus more on fun riding instead of holding on for dear life with the hardtail XD
Right on Tim. It's one of my favorite lines too. I can't wait to hear what you think of it when you get your full sus. Thanks for watching and commenting. Sage
