  • First time on an ebike and I totally get the hype! The Specialized Turbo Levo is a powerful capable machine and gets after the trails like nobody’s business.
    Dan and I took the Turbo Levo ebikes to the Trexler Nature Preserve to see how they would perform on The Return of Brian’s and Jock O’ Diamonds jump lines. These ebikes made sessioning the jump lines a breeze, effortlessly climbing the trail, and inspiring confidence on the jumps.
    I was particularly impressed with the stability in the turns and power delivery. The three modes were simple to figure out and change on the fly. The battery life was also a pleasant surprise as we rode for 2 hrs and finished the ride with 60% of battery life still left. The geometry and suspension were spot on and kept the stoke high as we flew through the air.
    I did struggle with the weight of the bike. As a smaller rider I found it difficult to maneuver the bike at times. I was also not able to pair the bike with the Specialized App, so I was unable to dial in the power settings. Thankfully the default settings were fine, but I would like to experiment some more.
    Huge thank you to Keswick Cycles in Paoli for letting us borrow these demo bikes. If you are looking for a great bike shop definitely check these guys out at keswickcycle.com

    I'm all in on analog bikes, but I can appreciate the approach of using the ebike as a learning tool. On days when I lap a trail 2-3 times, I can really start to push the envelope of trying new techniques and expand my comfort level. I can only imagine how much exponential benefit would come from even more laps in a less fatigued state!
    Also appreciate your trail etiquette, if all ebikers were as gracious and grateful as you are when passing, the world would be a better place!

    I can totally relate to this. Previously rode TNP on muscle bike twice. Friday was my first ride there on my new ebike (Transition Repeater PT) ... My God was it insanely fun.
    I had the same reaction, and said the same thing to my buddy. TNP is a bike park without an uplift essentially. Not any more. We lapped half pipe 8 times.
    Great videos.
    Cheers!

      OMG right?!?! I wish I could keep this bike. I'm totally sold on the lap concept and TNP is the perfect spot. Thank you for the feedback and comment. Sage

    Where I notice the etxra weight on an e-bike the most is in the braking... It "tracks" through the braking zone a lot better...
    When I had the Turbo Levo out for some rides I managed around 75km and over1000m climbing on a charge... Having said that though... I also managed to burn through the batteries in about 35 to 40km when I went "full Braaaaap" and just jammed it in turbo mode. So needing to manage the batteries is a real thing!

    • @TrailSage
      @TrailSage  21 день назад +1

      Super interesting Phil. I'm struggling with the tech, especially the slow speed tech, because break modulation is impossible on this thing, lol. As for the battery life, I can see range anxiety being a real thing. Thanks for the comment and feedback. Sage

    Great video sage, I've always wondered how you would find an e-bike. Now you have tested the Levo Turbo, an absolutely great bike. I found your reaction and feedback very interesting. I love my e-bike, but I wouldn't want to do without my normal bike, it always depends on the purpose for which the bike is used. Thanks for the video and your experience with it mate. As always, you rode great. Ride on and have a great sunday🤙

    Broken Arrow on an E-bike. Multiple runs that seems brilliant! I rode one once on a demo day at Birdsboro. It definitely is a bit unsettling. I imagine it would take a few rides to get used to.

    I have yet to ride modern ebike and I’m afraid to… because I’m a POSITIVE I will want to buy one. We have tons of “pedal bike park” style trails in this region where an e-bike would be amazing

    You on an e-bike??? I think I’m gonna have to get some supplies and build a bunker cause the apocalypse may be coming soon lol
    I’m glad you like it. It’s definitely life changing and can unlock so much more. I just bought one three weeks ago and it’s just been a blast. Haven’t jumped it yet, but the weight definitely has me a bit worried, but other wise it feels super planted and not too different.

      lol right?!?! I can't believe it either but it was so much fun. We took it to Mt Penn yesterday and today and it jumped awesome. I put a little video of it on my Insta if you want to check it out. instagram.com/trailsage/

    I know me, a pedal assist e-bike wouldn’t be a good idea, if I had one I’d use it all the time and my fitness would wane. I’m 56 so I can imagine needing one…but not yet.

    • @equi
      @equi 26 дней назад +4

      This is likely not entirely true. A few things; if you use eco, it still requires effort. Yes, not as much, but you’ll be getting a workout. Even if you used Turbo all day, the added weight requires more strength to move around. You will get more of an upper body workout. In addition, because you can ride potentially 1.5-2x as much, even though the climbs are easier, you’ll be feeling it. More Zone 2-3 instead of 4-5. Which is great for fat burning as well.

    • @TrailSage
      @TrailSage  26 дней назад +2

      I hear ya Pat, but you get quite the workout on the downhills. For me, I love the idea of being able to do multiple laps without getting tired. We progressed so much in the last 3 days.

    • @TrailSage
      @TrailSage  26 дней назад

      Good points John. I wasn't looking for the workout aspect, but I could see that. For me, this was all about sessioning. Thanks for the feedback and comment. Sage

    It was clearly noticeable that you enjoyed riding that bike Sage 😁 I'm currently also weighing if I should pull the trigger on an e-Bike. However I am more inclined towards a light e-MTB ... I don't think I want to ride a 25kg full power MTB. There's been a lot of news presented ath the Eurobike lately ... the new DJI bike and motor system look very tempting. And I notice that I also begin the change my view of e-MTBs . For many years I associated an e-MTB with a lack of fitness and an unwillingness to suffer and simply saw it as a sign of age. However in the last two years I noticed that a lot of the very fit young guns that regularely bury me in our little fun enduro races take in many training laps on e-MTBs. It's an advantage that'S hard to overcome if you have to earn every downhill with blood, sweat and tears. It's not a big deal if you have a bikepark with lifts nearby but I have to ride several hours to have that ... btw ... I can see a topic for the ride & laugh podcast there . I agree with you, I think I will always prefer my analogue bike, but having just that one more bike in my quiver will for sure solve all my confidence issues ... I just need to find a way for my wife to understand that 🤣😂

    • @TrailSage
      @TrailSage  21 день назад +1

      Its a game changer Christian. I'm working on a video for my channel and podcast that will sum up my final thoughts on the ebike, but you hit all the points. As for your wife, well, you are on your own on that one, lol. Thanks for the comment and support brotha!
