You can set functions as thumb gestures on the screen to quickly access ISO etc. Works really well. SmallRig are doing a grip that makes holding the camera much better.
Hey Dustin, thank you for that video.😊 I bought the X-M5 besides my X-H2S. I really love this tiny camera for everyday use. In my opinion the Build Quality is very good. If you add a smallrig grip to it you solve 3 Problems. The Ergoonomics get better, you have an arca swiss plate and the battery door can be opened. So i highly recommend it. For me the x-m5 is a small version of the x-s20 without ibis and an evf. Of course the film dial is not for everyone. For the x-m5 i choose the viltrox air series lenses (35+56mm 1.7) for stills and the xf18-55 for video (the stabilization seems the best with this lens for me) Greets Erik
Hi Erik, that's great about the Smallrig grip. That would make a huge difference. The AIR series is great - the upcoming lens in the series is going to be awesome, BTW (you'll hear about it soon!)
The Fuji is 80% the Sony price but can do 95% (and more) of its capabilities. For vlogging the AF is adequate, for cinema or any other kind of videography you'll probably use manual focus so the slightly less reliable AF becomes a none issue. For stills the AF is more than capable, and you have a mechanical shutter for less rolling shutter and banding. Plus it has Fuji Film Sims when you want to have fun shooting without stressing out about how you have to edit them later to look good. Ergo can easily be fixed with grip accessories (battery/card door problem is solved by this as well), battery life is solvable by spares; on the other hand, no mechanical shutter on the Sony isn't something you can do anything about. All things considered, most people would get more out of the X-M5 over its competitors, especially at this price point.

@shira_yone xm5 & zv e10 ii both cost same infact zv e10 ii with sigma is little cheaper then xm5 with same sigma lens 🫠 but ya lack of mechanical shutter is an issue but I think zv e10 ii got better stabilisation and battery backup
6.2k Open Gate on a sub $1000 camera is pretty "revolutionary." No other competitor is offering that video spec in their budget models and in my opinion, a killer feature.
It seems purchasers will simply get what they pay for. Appears unrealistic to have lofty expectations at this price point. On a purely personal note, the lack of an ecf is a major negative, it can be too challenging even framing and more in bright sunlight. The body may be just too small for me as I find my S10 to be on the small side. AF ? A touch like Canon opening up the RF lens line, Fuji will get there one day, as in past laments, in the era of AI, it escapes why this continues to be a negative.
@ I think for casual use, I don't there are any issue. I have a X-E2 as a backup camera due to its small and compact size. AF is really dated in 2025 but I find it's not that hard to take good pictures, I only use AF-S. Youngers even use point and shoot camera before 2010, so I think this camera still really ok overall
@@Aozaka Well in fairness, those P&S cameras have tiny sensors with correspondingly huge DOF that makes it pretty hard to miss focus. An APS-C sensor, maybe even coupled with a bright prime, is a different ballpark entirely.
Fujifilm's AF problems are way overblown, especially in the RUclips space. I shoot an X-T3 professionally for weddings, events, and portraits. Fujifilm cameras' autofocus is fine. It's not the best in class, sure, but it's a huge improvement over my older Canon 5D DSLR, which was considered pretty good.

i wish the film simulation dial could be remapped.
Agreed.
Great review Dustin. I liked the candid images you captured with the camera!
Thank you
In the U.S., this camera is known as the Miata
Got as much value per cost as one too.
LOL - nice

Interesting on the thumb gestures.
It would be interesting to see how good is the possible video result in case of filming in 6K with a stabilized lens and stabilizing footage in post
My workstation didn't like the codec they are using for the 6K footage, and I couldn't get it solved in time for the review's release.
Good thing they added the ability to transfer photos VIA USB-C cord!
Yes, it does help.

The only advantage I see here when compared to ZV-E10 II is the mechanical shutter present in this
And the open gate video, gives more flexibility

I would say the mechanical shutter, open gate video, and the film simulations. The Sony has arguably a better sensor and definitely better autofocus.
Confused between this and zv e10 ii
As my 1st cam
Will use sigma 30mm f1.4 and for portrait and videography

the xm5 will continue to be taken by scalpers for the next year. the only way to buy it will be ebay.
They need to stop letting that happen.
6.2k Open Gate on a sub $1000 camera is pretty "revolutionary." No other competitor is offering that video spec in their budget models and in my opinion, a killer feature.
It is in theory a killer feature...if you make use of it. Some creators will, but for many the idea of open gate is pretty wasted on them.
It seems purchasers will simply get what they pay for.

I find the loss of the EVF a dealbreaker for me, personally.
I was interested. But I'll stick with my x100vi
Fair enough.
ahahaha
????
He doesn't look happy reviewing this camera
Hmmm, I don't recall being any more or less happy than usual when doing this review :)
First
I'm afraid there's no prize :)
AF must be nightmare. Even olympus and lumix could do better
em nghĩ không tệ hơn olympus đâu chị, cũng cỡ cỡ nhau thôi
I can't account for them, but I wouldn't call it a nightmare...just not as good as what I'm seeing from Sony, Nikon, or Canon.
