Thanks for watching! What are your thoughts, Fixed blade or Folder for EDC, Survival or Bushcraft? What are your uses and setting? Also let me know if you want to see survival kit I put together in the Maxpedition skinny shown here.
I'm a big fan of Alox SAKs for EDC, I prefer the Pioneer over the Cadet. I'd watch a survival kit video but I'd really like to see your HPG belt setup. Also, was that an Opinel saw?
Ha ha ha, yeah I got tired of waiting and bought the SMKW Bandit made by LT Wright. Not s35 but AEB-L, zero corrosion issues so far and a pretty useful little blade.
Urban dweller and Knife aficionado here. I like your review of this knife and your demonstration of "skinning"" the bark off of limbs with the back of the knife. That was an eye opener. I already have a similar knife, so I am on the fence on purchasing. I also like ESEE knives.
Thank you for the comment, glad the video was of interest to you! I was on the fence as well for quite a while. Its funny sometimes the stuff we think we will like ends up a flop and some of the stuff we think we may not like ends up being "just the right one".
@@Scablands_Scavenger wow, the last video i saw was 4 months ago, i think the issue isnt so much the videos not showing up, but if people have lots of channels subscribed it gets buried in the feed, it seems i have things to watch lol
The only small orange handle fixed blade knives I have, are the Schrade small sharp finger, and the Mtech USA MT 20-35 knife. I like your knife, it’s definitely good one even though it’s a small blade. ✌️
I’m very much considering this knife. How is its edge retention? Do you find it dulls easy and have to sharpen it frequently? Also, how is its corrosion resistance? Have you seen any rust on it? Have you had a need to oil it at all? Thanks.
Hi, I've been watching you for a while and really enjoy your content. It's your fault most of my kids now use Cold Steel tomahawks when camping :-) (combined with their Victorinox). I have a question that is probably a bit out of your zone but I would apreciate your opinion. First some background. I live in Europe (Belgium) and I go camping in Belgium, Holland, France and Germany. I have a skrama 240 and a Cold Steel tomahawk (amongst other large wood processing tools) for regular camping on private grounds. I have a Mora Garberg for regular camping on public grounds. For both ocasions I have a small folding saw) For all my regular (smaller) knife and saw tasks I use a Victorinox Forester and / or a Rangergrip. I have recently picked up on motorcycle camping again (with my brother - I'm 61 and he's 65) and I do not wish to take the Skrama nor the tomahawk nor the Mora for splitting wood (for obvious reasons). I am torn between the 4 max Scout, the Rajah 2 and the Voyager (all Cold Steel) as a "machete" for splitting wood with a max diameter of 10 cm (3 to 4 inches). I think that, seeing it's a folder combined with a folding saw it would be seen as less offensive when hauled around in my luggage and not on my person. Which would you recommend? Thank you for your feedback Kind regards Alain
Ha ha, great to hear the kids are outfitted well ! I do not have much time with the Cold Steel folders, I had a few in the past but they never really "fit in", (ad 10 lite and a finn wolf I think) so I cannot be much help with the others. Lock was fine and would do small fire prep just fine. Is there a law keeping you from stowing an axe or hawk on your bike? I ride bike pretty regular but normally carry one of my Hawks with a shortened handle to fit in my saddle bag. I will often remove the head and wrap in bandana or hand towel, then put head on when using. I also pack the Fiskars X5 pretty regularly when on bike. It actually does surprisingly well on smaller firewood for its small size ... of course if I have the space I will pack the X7 as they have the same head but 5 has shorter handle and is only 2oz less weight than 7, you can also stow a few fire prep items in the handle to save a little extra space. Hope this helps!
@@Scablands_Scavenger There's not really a law against it (well, depending on the country you go to) stowing it in your luggage (I do it while car camping or "foot" camping or bycicle camping but combined with a motorcycle? Well, people are aalready kinda scared of motocycle riders and combined? I just want to pack something that gives a less ofensive impression than a tomahawk or a skrama 240. So far I've had very little comments with the Garberg but if I could tone it down even more, I'ld like that (and stow it in my pocket while on site in stead of on my belt). Thanks for the reaction though. I forgot to mention that I also consider the folding Bushman. Thanks for your feedback, kind regards Alain
@@T37912 You might consider a folding saw. Silky or Boreal. Even Fiskars has a folding saw. Yes, they don't chop, but they are far less threatening than an Axe or Hatchet. Probably safer in the event of a motorcycle accident too.
Knife Center is giving this blade away with a $200 purchase. I can't imagine using 1095 for game, at all. Worst steel I've ever used for skinning/butchering - zero edge retention. I'll stick with magnacut and 3V for hunting, bushcraft, etc. EDC, edge retention is less important.
i wanted to love this knife. the overall fit and feel/size is perfect. but the damn thing will not stay sharp. the steel is so soft it is not even a proper knife. perhaps the batch i have was not tempered properly. cheers brother

They need to come out with the 3” blade version of this knife that they’ve teased many times. And offer a s35vn option…

Best 👍 reminder ever. You could just place it in shot and point to it
Brilliant
Nice, a new scablands video, i was just wondering how you were doing the other day too
Thanks for checking in ! I have been trying to put out 2-3 vids a month but seems YT is not sending them out to most subscribers.

There should be a kydex option.

Thats a shame, definitely reach out to ESEE and see if they might replace it for a new one.
Make this knife a folder and magnacut, lol.
