Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

In other FC videos I’ve heard writers say not to worry about LIKABLE. They suggest, instead, to concentrate on RELATABLE. I find this channel to be both likable & relatable!
Cheers Murry!
@@filmcourage It's not about likeability or relatability. It's about interestingness.
@@NJGuy1973 agreed. They need to keep me engaged
what about A Clockwork Orange, Wl Topo or Blue Velvet? Do people relate to Alex? Is he likable? Is peeping Tom Jeffrey from Blue velvet likable? El Topo definitely isn't likable ... maybe relatable to killers?
I find I don't beed yo like a character but my favourite movies' characters aren't even necessarily relatable
actually I guess Jeffrey is relatable... who isn't a bit of a peeping Tom?
@@NJGuy1973 yeah ... Alex and El topo are interesting
Three words "Make me care"
I love all the videos with Naomi Beaty. so down to earth & insightful
This is exactly how I try to explain why I love villians and in almost everything I watch the villian is my favorite. 99% of the time The villian isn't somebody I would actually like in real life but in the show/movie they make the character so well or they show you enough of the character that you can understand them.
Like Neagan in walking dead, obviously in real life nobody would like him (at least the way he is during the present time of the show) but he is one of my favorite characters in anything I've ever watched. You can tell right away that there are layers and backstory to the character and you can tell even though he's doing horrible things that at one point he was no different from rick. (And arguably they aren't even that different when they meet we just see them different because we've been following rick the whole time)
As soon as neagan showed up he reminded me of shane, a tragic story of someone who was once a good guy but you could tell that the new world with walkers and everything was just too much or it all changed too quickly and it broke something in them.
The “not so great stuff" in crazy stupid love was the chefs kiss imo. I don't understand why she thinks it's not the greatest direction, steve carells character was written really well and I wouldn't change a thing. It goes to show you can't please everyone.

To understand all, is to forgive all ❤
Your channel has helped me a lot thanks
This is a fantastic channel. Great insights. It helps me flesh out either ideas I might have had about how a film works, or introduced new concepts completely. Even Conigitive Behavioural THerapy techniques - the senior dude with the cap - adapting the famous 'downward arrow' to get to the 'emotional basis'. Very interesting. I have never watched terrrestial telly for - well especially since lockdown started. Never will I return.
Thank you for pushing a culture of narrative excellence. It’s in our hands since these billion dollar train wrecks and stitch together a half decent yarn/tale.
I zoned out after the first 10 seconds, for 8 minutes.
I had a good laugh on this one. Thanks ladies. Also some good perspective- as always, Karen.
I loveeeee Crazy, Stupid, Love! It's one of my favorite movies 😍
And there's also this really funny movie of the same spiderweb ensemble genre called She's Funny That Way that gave me similar vibes so if you liked CSL you might like it too. 😊
Who wants what?
That's what I have to ask whenever I pick up dinner for my family.
Thank you, thank you. I'll show myself out. Seriously though, excellent interview.
Terminator films: What wants who? Love this interview 👍🏼
I'll take a day off tomorrow and some ice cream?
lol Thank you for giving us the words without making us listen for them in the video.
The Dude just wanted a new rug.
She's right, if the characters don't care, why should the audience?
Hollywood always reminds me of "scribes and Pharisees". All of the film theories are awesome on paper, but awful on silver (screen)
Great info as always. Went to check out her IMDB and there's no picture of her on it.
It all starts with a good logline. Interesting character wants to achieve something interesting but there are nasty obstacles. Once you have that, the story flows on its own. The protagonist doesn't have to be likeable; Indiana Jones is a real jerk. The old school term was sympathetic character which I think fits.
Towards the end of the viedeo I dont understand your point that Steve Carell womanizing in Crazy stupid Love is a bad thing, you guys seem out of touch with male struggles or just reality overall.
She gives great thoughts on writing and she's a babe
The video title would mean something else in February.
