The powerful force in Forest Gump is Forest himself. The conflict comes from modern society trying to fit him in or destroy him, but his innocence, strong sense of what is right, and passiveness (in most cases) let the universe carry him through and above it all. It not unlike the "Being There" story.

I enjoy Ms. Beaty's interviews especially her delivery style and understand that she's gathered knowledge from professional development experience, but where did Ms. Beaty learn screenwriting?

Very useful. We record RPG's and while they are improv based vids such as these are still very useful.

    Hi
    Good topic was discussed
Yes, conflict keeps the film interesting
    Goal difference leads to conflict
Difference in Approach to goal leads to conflict
All conflicts should have relevance to the goals.
Conflicts can emanate from nature or man made
Thus, film journey needs to carry balanced conflicts in different Acts
Thanks again Film courage to have brought out yet another useful topic in interview form

I have enjoyed this. But it just occurred to me that I learned this in 9th grade English class in a public school in TN. And yet some of the writers in Hollywood still can’t do this. And they have matriculated from the Ivy Leagues.
I walked away from this video a bit boggled at that thought.

I think some of the internal conflict comes from Forest’s struggle to know he isn’t defective. “I’m not a smart man, Jennie”. And later to Jennie when he sees his son, “Is he smart?”

Forest Gump: the conflict was between our expectations and his remarkable reality. Plus, many small conflicts along the way.
