Shaking the hand and kissing on the podium was not the custom at the time. No one did it. This is why Tourisheva is pure class, but it doesn't make Neli Kim bad or a sore loser or anything.
She is a sore loser, though. She is saying to this day, that nadia did not earn her tens, and were given to her because no one could do it and they were sick of waiting,so they chose Nadia. She is a bitter jealous woman. She was then and is now,as is Olga.
Yes, I think Tourischeva might have been the first to do it (and boy, has it caught on!) but back then, it wasn't common at all. You can almost see Nadia taken aback and of course, the crowd being very appreciative. I'm so used to seeing it in gymnastics that I'm very disappointed when it doesn't happen in other sports.
@@lilmissperfect4591 if you look at the movies from then, every time after the Nadia's 10 they knew they would lose, their faces show that! they were used to win all the time so they were shocked by Nadia
Tourischeva is gracious and a true champion. Nelli Kim is bratty and should be happy she got anything at all, as she was not equal to anyone else on any podium the entire Olympics.
Probably would've been a bit MORE unusual, given what a competitive relation there was between Nadia and Nelli, if Nelli had been warmer in her congatulations. It wasn't until 4 years later, when they tied for the FX gold, that they exchanged any particularly personal words--Nelli, on that occassion, said to Nadia, "So, that's it? Time to go?" and Nadia agreed, "Yes, time to go."
Nelli did shake her hand and she gave her a kiss on the cheek. There are still photos of this, she did this as the camera was on Ludmilla, so you don't see it in this clip.

Excelente Nadia
It's impressive how similar to west Latin languages Romanian sounds, although I don't understand more than one or two words!
Yup, cause it's a Latin language with some Slavic influence
Nadie como Nadia felicitaciones

Extraordinarias!
Nobody like Nadia. Just perfect.

Nellie Kim Korean Soviet great gymnast.
Nellie Kim no felicitó a Nadia Comaneci, me pareció un gesto feo, no supo perder. Ludmila Tourischeva si que lo hizo.
Tonterías. Véis demasidos culebrones.
