The very top sentence of the description is exactly what I was looking for. I am a recent college drop out of putting in 2.5 years of college. I really do not want to pursue that shit anymore. I want to do a trade and I want to provide for myself and my girlfriend. I just want a family, but I know I have to be financially stable. As I was looking into what trade to do. I researched more about an electrician and it really caught my eye. This is the second video I have watched from you so far. I am glad that you are still continuing to educate your viewers everyday about you skillset. That is incredible I am loving the positive energy and dedication. I am definitely subscribing. I could not figure out how exactly or where I should start to become an electrician. Until I was scrolling down in the comments and BAM. As I was about to do that. I see what you said about how they offer it for free in NYS for people under 21. I am only 19, so that is a plus. I am definitely going to be studying more of your videos and broaden my knowledge on the profession of becoming an electrician some more. Thank you for sacrificing your time to help out others like me!
Thank you SO much! Super glad you found the information you needed and thank you for the kind words and support 🙏🏼❤️
I’m also 19, I went to early college dying my sophomore year, when I finally decided what I wanted to do, I realized I would be 40k in debt, I had taken last term thanks to financial aid, so I’m like 1,200 in debt since I haven’t used the rest of the 3k. And it’s so stressful for me. So I will get a job at McDonald’s soon so I can pay it off while I try to get my apprenticeship.
I hope this year has been really good to you. Can you give an update?
Hey man, did you ever go through with becoming an electrician? If so, how’s it going!
@@HabituaILineStepper no I never went through with becoming an electrician. I was a teacher aid for a year. But I posted something on social media, which got me fired. So now I am working part time as a cleaner. I looked into applying for an electrician, but the course is not free for people under 21. I think possibly it is free for people who live in the city of New York, but overall not the state. I specifically live in Buffalo New York. You have to pay thousands of dollars for the course. $4500 to be exact. The price goes up every year. It was literally half than that last year. I am looking at welding and that is $2750. I am sure the other courses cost $1000 or more.
@@erikthechosenone I am in NYC, but I don’t think there are any free courses here. You’re right about the price range being around $4500. They do payment plans though free of interest, not like you have to pay it all at once I’m sure. Only thing that’s bothering me is how you’ll have to be an apprentice for about 5 years, which from what I’ve read, they don’t really make much(although some say you can still make up to 80k first 2-3 years). Electrician just sounds more fun and professional than what I’m doing right now. Local truck driving is a headache, every day. Imagine dealing with NY/NJ drivers every day while being in a 53ft trailer lol only making roughly $60k
I went to a trade school full time for 7 months and it cost me 20k i kinda regret it because the company i work for right now offers a 4-5 yr apprenticeship fully paid for with on the job training along with theory and hands on training in the classroom every tue and thursday after work which upon completion i could get my journeymans license. In My opinion look into apprenticeships and dont worry if you dont have any experience just apply!
agreed!
You in union ? It’s hell trying to get in
i am now
Are these for unions tho ?
yes
If you want to know what you are doing, do an apprenticeship and pay attention
Here in Northeast Ohio, no trade schools and electricians say there too busy to train an apprentice, but the union wants you to have experience...Running out of options
Hey seen this and wanted to talk to you a little. I’m in the Cleveland/Parma Area (northeast Ohio) I was just in the same boat as you. I know a lot of the guys say go to apprenticeship but that’s not really a big option for us. I’m going to Ohio business college if you’d like to check it out. It’s not super super expensive and they have a job placement lady that will help you out when you graduate
@@michaelcole3720 interesting, I just applied on the obc website for more information. Thanks. Do you know how much it is and when the next class starts?
@@michaelcole3720I went to that school and it opens 0 doors
I agree with you - it's better to get paid to learn, than to pay that huge bill for trade school. I had no idea trade school was that expensive! :O $37,000? Wow! ~Cindy! :)
for sure
37,000 or let racist union officials and formen jeopardize your career at the end of the day it's about that individuals career not if your officials like you or not
So many decisions. I can't make up my mind! Thanks for the video!
Of course, hope you find something that works well for you :)
Im in year 1 of a two year program . $3,500 per year , then 2 year apprentice after to get the journeyman ticket
nice
Another route pre appr program some states offer for free, gov funding. Personally here in nj 32k for a few months is alot from someone who just got out of college. Scout around, some utility company you can get into through customer service first then bid internal for pre appr union jobs, and you can learn on the job. I would do lots of re search, and with this economy I wouldnt recc 30k for someone just starting. Some pre app program can cost around 10k to 14k so its cheaper. Hope this helps.
Lookin more n more like a npc from sekiro shadows die twice. I like it
hahaha thanks :)
Here in New Mexico the local community college helps out with the job search. And you get credited hours up to 4,000 hours. But sadly, if you joined JATC from the community college, you start as a first year. It doesn’t count much towards apprenticeship.
New Mexico JATC you are only allowed to work with a union shop. And you can get stuck. Some companies don’t honor the rotation and your forced to approach the JATC director and request a transfer or request their help to get you rotated.
😔
Is it possible to become a part of the ibew union without doing the apprenticeship? If I had some electrical experience with a trade school, could I just sign up for the union afterwards? The particular class at this trade school I visited they told me to take a basic intro electrical class. It’s 15 weeks, and pretty cheap, $2550
The brothers don't think highly of that kind of thing
@@alecthenice8115 what are u talking about ?
@@CHASA to directly answer your question, a 15 week class would likely allow you to get a construction electrician 1 position. (Similar to laborer classification)
@@alecthenice8115 that could be better than nothing though. I’m not sure, I’m studying for the union apprenticeship test right now. The test would be next month. But applicants won’t know their placement til June 2022. So I’ll probably end up taking the trade school class either way, just in case. I could probably apply for non union companies after doing the 15 week class.
@@CHASA idk what the market is where you live but I would just start showing up to companies in work clothes with a resume if you are just looking for a start immediately. The union apprenticeship will pay off if u can do all the steps and have time
There is not really apprenticeship here in Bakersfield, California so I went to a trade school
How is it I wanna get an to Electricain
nice
What school did you end up going to? I'm in the area and want to learn.
What school ? Uei?
Excuse me, can you scallion the different type of electricians I can be? I want to know what might be a good fit for me. Also is doing the first year as residential then the rest a commercial a good idea? I read in a forum that residential is easier to learn because it’s more repetitive and you can keep learning more with commercial.
Also I’m also here in Portland, I live like 40 minutes away out in the country in north plains.
Will it be okay if I take the bus? Or should I wait until I get my drivers license and get a car? Since I only have a permit, I’m 19 but I wasn’t let to drive much
theres 3 mainly. residential, commercial and industrial. theres maintance, specialties etc. residential is a good place to start, then from there try other types and do what you like best.
it would be best to get your own car cuz jobsites can switch quickly but if you are determined you can do anything
Where I can apply for an apprenticeship as a foreigner . Will they provide me the visa too ??
There is many opcions out there. I still waiting for union interview but solar and some other jobs are offering there employees OJT programs and you guys really dont have to pay a trade school.
Them not honoring money dedication and work you put in is bs
