Hello! I’m very inexperienced at this type of stuff but it sounds very interesting. I’m definitely considering applying for apprenticeship, but I’m wondering what exactly is the best option for me between going union or nonunion. Can someone list off the big pros and cons of both? Thanks 🙏
I have been non Union for 23 years . I just passed my locals inside wireman exam and am starting in 1 week . A little nervous , good work stands for itself that's all that matters . Your videos really helped push me in the right direction .Thank you so much! 159 lets go!

In a nonunion company ( large company) no benefits at all but nonstop work. Pay is crap but apprentiship is only 4 years with reimbursement once its complete

Hope your experience in the IBEW is great! I’m with local 353 in Toronto. Switched over from non union around a year and a half ago but as an apprentice
Hi, I wondering how the process is, and do they transfer the hours you had worked. I was about to start my apprenticeship but non union but in the future, I want to go union but was not sure how the process went.Any feed back will be nice thanks
$14 an hour raise free raises every year (around $5) free retirement free pension free healthcare, etc. basically better everything and it's free, doing the same job i was already doing. i dont see why anyone wouldn't switch.
@@DailyElectrician so how much of your paycheck does Union/royalty collects? I’m not sure I am asking right questions I’m still deciding on which one to go for thanks for help.
Though I appreciate the videos, You guys need more time in the IBEW before you guys can answer most of these questions with experience. The IBEW has a deep culture and for the most part; an apprentice nor a recently organized JIW will not have the time in the trade to know/experience these things. Regardless, welcome to the IBEW and wish you both the best
You sound like the typical smoggy guy who shits on the new guys these guys are awesome and giving great information I wouldn’t be surprised if mad electrician is a far better electrician than you
Here's a short story of what I experienced on a job. Some non union guys pulled fire alarms just to cause us trouble at this one location. Years later, a friend of mine thought he would try to become an electrician just like I did however he went through 'non union'. He ends up going to a job near that same location I worked at years ago and tells me the union guys pulled fire alarms in protest of them getting a contract. That cost the fire dept time and money I told him. Both our grandfathers were fire fighters and we knew better but some rather fuel the feuding. I guess that wasn't such a short story.
@@DailyElectrician I don’t think means you are guaranteed a job every day for the rest of your life. But does that mean the contract between the employer and the union is different? From let’s working job to job?
How much should a first year apprentice be getting paid? Ik someone making double what I make in commercial, while I’m residential. We both have no experience....
not really unless you own your own company. most jobs dont start super early and end not super late. average start time 6-7am. average end time 2-4pm. unless you work more than 8 hours a day. then you're pushing 5-6pm

Wrong! This is a free country. Do what you want, work for who you want!
