I forgot to add that you are so awesome for making these cabinets for your daughter. Also awesome for baking for her boyfriend. You have a very pleasant voice. I love the wood pun in your channel name.
Nice job. I’m doing a kitchen cabinet rebuild project at home, and this is right in line with my plans for 4 of the cabinets which currently serve as a pantry area (with fixed shelves). It is VERY helpful to see how you did yours - thanks!
I’m looking to make something similar. I wish you would have went into more of the mechanics (slide outs) of it though! Oddly enough I’m also in the market for some lights so thank you for this!!
I want something similar for my 1976 Dutch Craft rebuild, just a few feet taller. I have a 120V refrigerator that is 5’ tall with 8-1/2” of unused ‘extra’ width between it and the stove- perfect for a pantry/spice slide out. I wouldn’t build it like this either. I thought plexiglass so near to the floor was superfluous. Plus for such a little cabinet there’s a lot of redundant bulky material. Sure, it’s strong enough, but there’s other ways of creating torsional rigidity while actually increasing capacity. If your application does not need access from both sides I’d consider using 4mm or 1/4” plywood as a ‘back’ and build structure around that. The idea is excellent regardless, and he did a nice job. It’s two years too late probably but there’s a number of good instruction videos on RUclips on setting up drawer slides. Plus Blum and others have great instructions included with the product. That’s how I learned years ago when fancy drawer slides were new and I don’t think youtube existed- reading the paperwork that came with the slides.
Wow, that's sooo cool. If I had the equipment and experience. Yes, yes I would. And your awesome! You can build and bake. DARE I say a step up from Bob Vila?!!
I like the music you used for this & the fact that it was subdued enough to not overtake the talking but was audible enough to enjoy. Thank you for including the link to the drawer slides. I was wondering what was needed for that as I want to build my own custom sized base filler for a bathroom.
In my opinion, this is a beautifully executed project but would not call that a DIY for the common person due to the amount of equipment required. Wish I had your craftsmanship and shop to go along with it to tackle this.
eh, you can make it with just hand tools. its not that hard. and if you want to use minimal power tool, you only need circular saw and a drill.

I was looking for ideas to make a small cabinet like that to store all my cooking pot lids that are a pain in the ass to store properly. Picked up a few from this video, thanks 👍🏻
José Pedro Filipe did you make it ? I want to make one and I even took the measurements but I haven’t pushed myself too

Priscilla Robles, not yet. I want mine to be an upper cabinet on the kitchen corner and, with this COVID thing, I didn’t found an ideal way to do it, although I think I’m gonna make a drawer and install it vertically. And I also have been building a kitchen floor cabinet and countertop, because I need it more than organising the cooking pot lids :)
Nice spice rack. Luckily, you brought your jigsaw to solve the problem. The rack looks very handy. Coincidentally, I made a video last week about a spice rack made from reclaimed wood. It is totally different but the result was also beautiful.
I looked on my computer to see if I had drawn up a plan for this drawer, but it looks like I did not. I just built it to be the width needed to fit into the cabinet. Hopefully the video provides enough step-by-step explanation. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
love the spice/utility cab.. but i would not want to have to charge lights. I went through the hassle of running wires up the insides of the cabs. I am going to use your design for the cab though.. thanks !
HOw did you get into the cabinet to put the other part of the drawer slides?. Don't you put something on the floor of the cabinet? My husband is a bigger man and our cabinet is only 5 inches wide. Not for sure how we can make it.
Do you have a video on mounting the slides to base and does these slides give the depth needed , I notice when you put the slide part to cabinet there was reset. Thanks I am new to your page and this video gave me answers and some questions, I been looking to do some of these for my new kitchen plus I doing one for my pots and pans cabinet that’s double door, 22 1/2” wide. If you have a video I will look for it. Thanks
I'm afraid I don't have a video on how to install the Blum undermount drawer slides. It's fairly simple to do, but the instructions are a little hard to follow. They come in a variety of depths. The ones I used were 21", which is perfect for a 24" cabinet.
excellent job, how is the left/right stability when fully opened? I'm thinking of doing something similar but narrower, to hold pots & pans on each side of a stove , blum slide are nice, I've been using soft close , looking for reasonable priced metal pegboard is a problem I'm having ,may use wood strips instead.
I used Blum 21" undermount drawer slides. Here's a link to the ones that I bought: www.rockler.com/blum-tandem-full-extension-drawer-slide-kit-with-blumotion-soft-close
I used the Blum TANDEM Plus BLUMOTION soft close undermount slide. It was the 21" version of these: www.rockler.com/blum-tandem-full-extension-drawer-slide-kit-with-blumotion-soft-close
It's a little more tedious, but you can get the same result with a table saw blade with multiple passes to cut the thickness you need. It's important to use a blade with a flat top grind (FTG) so that you get a smooth cut.
Did I miss something or did you completely skip over the part of how and what the drawer fits into? Don’t you have to build an outer box for the drawer to fit into or was the carcass already there?
I had already built out all of the kitchen cabinets, and this was the last thing to add, so the carcass was already there. I did make an earlier video of the corner cabinet for the sink, but didn't video anything else for the kitchen.
I only had a rip blade in the description, but i"m pretty sure I used a cross-cut blade for the Plexiglas acrylic sheets. Here's the blade I would have used: amzn.to/2QitGc7 and I've added that to the description.
The notches are only at the back of the cabinet and they allow room for the cabinet to run over the track of the drawer slide which runs under the cabinet. Those orange clips are screwed into the bottom at the front of the cabinet and they are used to connect the cabinet to the drawer slide.
You do nice work and I enjoy the videos you produce as well. I could not tell on my iPad, but it seems that you had nice flat bottoms on your dados - if that’s so, can you tell me what set you have?
Thanks for the feedback! The dado set that I use is the Freud SD508. I've been pretty happy with its accuracy and the clean cuts that it leaves. Here's a review of that I did a few years ago: ruclips.net/video/htvhBQl-zjM/видео.html And here's a link to the dado set on Amazon: amzn.to/2TAO3C2
great work . have to ask you about the exhaust vent above the cooking range. how was this installed. does it vent via the side of the house or through the roof ?
The vent goes right through the brick wall and exhausts to the outside. It's not the most energy efficient device due to air leakage, but it works really well. It's likely original to the house from the 1950s.
Is it possible to make one for the outdoors? I would love to make one for my dad for when he's grilling outside! how many inches is the one that you bought for the blum drawer slide? I love your videos and keep it up!

Good job ! You daughter is lucky to have a father like you ! Cheers!
This is excellent, Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship work and details.
What a wonderful father you are!!!
Great job - I will attempt to do something like that once I get tools and materials. I will definitely see this video again when ready.
Wow, this is excellent! Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship! I must try this for my own kitchen 😊

I have those lights! They are awesome too! I even have the ones that come with a remote but I put them at the top of the cabinet for decoration.

I will be making it! I have similar plans for the same size cabinet in the same place.
This is exactly what I want except mine has to be next to my upper cabinets but I imagine all would be the same. Thank you 🙏
Yes. I need 3 side by side in the base carcass
This is super awesome.
Nice spice rack. Luckily, you brought your jigsaw to solve the problem. The rack looks very handy. Coincidentally, I made a video last week about a spice rack made from reclaimed wood. It is totally different but the result was also beautiful.

The stability of this one is quite good. I had considered putting slides at the top, as well, but it turns out that is wasn't needed.
I have a question- how does it hold up to the oven heat?
what kind of drawer slides did you use in this project? do you have a link to them?

I used the Blum TANDEM Plus BLUMOTION soft close undermount slide. It was the 21" version of these: www.rockler.com/blum-tandem-full-extension-drawer-slide-kit-with-blumotion-soft-close
Very nice job. I am wondering what rail did you use for the pull out?
Yes, yes I would make it
Nice one, I have a messy spice drawer for sure!

ps...what would you suggest if table saw cannot do dado
It's a little more tedious, but you can get the same result with a table saw blade with multiple passes to cut the thickness you need. It's important to use a blade with a flat top grind (FTG) so that you get a smooth cut.

nicely done
Do you find that the oven leaks a lot of heat into the cabinet?
Yes! Not good place for the cabinet. Oops
A question: Can you disassamble the board and turn it upside down instead?
It's glued together, so it would pretty hard to do that. My fix with the jigsaw was pretty easy, and the slots in the top are almost undetectable.
Great video
I cannot see where the notched out parts come into play. When you added those slide thingies to the bottom of the cabinet there were no notches.
The notches are only at the back of the cabinet and they allow room for the cabinet to run over the track of the drawer slide which runs under the cabinet. Those orange clips are screwed into the bottom at the front of the cabinet and they are used to connect the cabinet to the drawer slide.

How lucky your daughter's boyfriend is! If he interested in wood working, he can share your expertise, and borrow a tool or two.
Spend all that time so could recess the four side pieces to the front and back pieces but then left the plexiglass sticking out
Dump the background music
The music was obnoxious to my senses.
Love your design and instruction. But the music in the videos is distracting; too much like the soundtrack to an action thriller.
