This is one of the best I've seen on what you can do with Wavetable. Not even Ableton did it justice. I'm going to check out Simon's YT as well. Thanks Nick.
@@ugurkupelimusic not sure, it depends on who is talking, if it's a jazz personn, then you are right, add9 means their is also the 7, but Cm9 for a guitarist/metal person means just a minor chord and a major 9th on top of it, that's why I prefer to specify just to be clear :)
@@LouisSerieusement not really, if it's a "jazz person", even a "classical person", if they say add9 than it's a 9th WITHOUT the 7th. So it's not "add9 means their is also the 7". Exactly the opposite.
Chris Faux i got serum, never used custom wavetable editing lol..what iam missing? I mean stock wavetables are more then enough, there is lots complex waves in stock. Enough
Reverb on base, would not have thought that would bring so much life into it. Nice! The unison made it sound too synthy again, although that might be a matter of taste. Pity this vst is not for the light users.
I understand what LFOs do! haha, thank you, I get it now. very cool. I stopped listening at about 15:13 and messed around with LFOs for an hour. thanks!
When I see lots of reverb, unison (chimmer) and etc being added to the recipe I always wonder how that will translate when summed to MONO. Yes, it sounds HUGE and so, but usually it has many phasing issues. Great video, though :)
the cpu load is a dealbreaker. serum is more efficient. for me, the best out there is vps avenger. it comes with interesting presets for all the sections.
I love the Wavetable synth in Ableton but one of its big limitations for me is the lack of noise. It has noise wave tables but they require you to give up an oscillator and none of them just sound like normal noise because they are noise wavetables
Big ableton noob here, when I try to follow along here I can not get the ping sound at the beginning of the note to go away after turning off retrigger on the LFO, in other words I can't seem to get a continious sound it always repeats even though the oscillator is not resetting. Anyone know what I'm missing?
@@sannamati4571 No, Switzerland, in the middle from europe, but not EU member. We can use reverb on bass, but Goverment says only with highpass filter.... :-)
He was showing an example of using a wavetable with the drumrack. "You can drop a wavetable into the drumrack"...but he didn't show how. When I try to do that the wavetable replaces the drumrack. I've tried different vairations of that like going the other way - drop a drum into the wavetable...but no luck. Anyone know how to do a setup like that? I looked at the downloaded file, but can't seem to figure out how he did it from looking at that either.
Thanks for the tip...but doing what your saying only removes the sound of that pad with the wavetable. What he's doing looks like the sound of the drums filtering through the wavetable; In other words the drum sound modulated by it.
how does it kill your CPU ? I have 8g Ram and I5... I'm sure you could do something to enhance performances, like killing windows 10 and install the 7 instead, cutting down the wifi when doing ableton, optimizing your OS to do music production..take an entire day to do that it will change everything, their is already tons of tutorial on this subject ;
I do have win7. I'll never install 10 (the pos os that it is) and my setup is already very optimized. I've been doing this for a little while.... I can use wavetable fine when I don't go crazy with the patch, but I like not being limited or having to constantly watch the cpu meter. when I compare the time spent on wavetable vs my real synths I always go to my real synths. I can do whatever I want and not have to worry. It's the same thing with blocks in reaktor too.
Not even close to Zebra tbh. I own Most of the u-he synths, Serum, Omnisphere and Massive. Out of all the wavetable capable synths out there, Zebra and Serum are the best in software world.
The wavetable synth eats a lot of cpu and the other problem is that it will be a perfect addition to bitwig that has a wonderful integrated modulation system, but in ableton we just have a few max4live units for the same purpose and max4live is a pain in the ass, always buggy, slowing down display, crashing the machine.. (I use ableton since many years and I sent hundreds of crash reports from many different computers, even the last one a 6 core (12 threads) Alienware Aurora R7 32go RAM, 1To SSD... not a little machine...). Ableton is not a synth maker, you can get vst wavetable synths far better on the market (and more cpu friendly). I think they should be focused on midi for example, live is really poor when it comes to midi editing.
Lol I'm a professionnal, all my software are legals, and since I'm also an IT Pro, my computers are far away from any basic machine you see usually....
the one thing that annoys is me is dat (if its true) no wavetable synth on the standard version? damn man thats a really shitty cheecky move from ableton
19:25 Amazing side-eye from Nick after trainer Simon tells him he's made 'entire tracks' just using sine waves or white noise!

9 people don't know what a really good tutorial is. Thanks!
Interesting! I haven't had a go with this synth in 10 yet. This was a great demonstration of some of its capabilities. Thanks!
This is amazing!!!! Thanks for sharing will be tweaking for hours tonight....
I keep coming back to this tutorial, even 3 years later it's still the best tutorial I have seen on youtube.
Same, it's a very inspiring one. Always makes me wanna play with Wavetable :)
That 10, 14, 15, 19 is a pretty good chord
C min7 (add 9) ; it fits into the natural minor scale
@@LouisSerieusement you don't need "add" if there is the 7th. can just say Cmin9

I like this guy's explanations, makes it look too easy!
Incredible use of Wavetable... totally loved this
I'm always eager to checkout a new video from sonicstate, and this one doesn't disappoint. As always, great stuff Nick!
I really hope they add the possibility to import your own wavetables. It's literally the only thing this synth lack to be a real Serum competitor.

It happened today. Ableton 10.1
being a long-time Ensoniq VFX owner, Wavetable was one of the things that finally got me to upgrade to Suite.
Nice tutorial. And thanks for having that straight download link, without having us jump through hoops.

Ableton must give it a name. It's such a great synth. Just Wavetables is crazy generic...
