Yes! Melissa represents those of us that have learned from Chef and the Dr's, and have been able to get a basic understanding of density and expanded on it to make something personal that works! I have now lost 33 pounds in 3 months and I have enjoyed it so much. Of course I have not been perfect and failed and that's part of learning. But I keep on going back to what I really love...nutritious, healthy delicious and satisfying foodage! Thank you ladies for more awesome info. Headed to Melissa's channel after this!

Yes but sparingly and spurraticly. On both the nuts and excersize lol. I have a tsp. Of peanut butter now and then with an apple. And in try to stay moving in some way every day. My energy level is no problem anymore so that's easy to do and it's helping to maintain and lose. 😁

I've learned about calorie density (and thought I was practicing it for years to be honest). Until I found this video. This really hits home. I've been an 100+ lbs overweight vegan for 4 years and hardly ANYTHING works but starvation to lose weight.
I have been trying to "moderate' my junk vegan food and thought like Melissa everyone successful just was better at it than me.
This actually feels very freeing knowing that other people just can't dabble at all In those foods. I really thought there was just something wrong with Me...
I'm going to seriously rethink the way I eat after this...

I have to make meals ahead of time. Not just individual ingredients like grains, legumes and potatoes for the week. I look in the fridge, see those things and say, hm....no idea what to do to them! So for example, I made a list of favorite meals. Soup, chili, lentil sloppy joes, refried beans for quick Mexican bowls, broccoli rice casserole, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, scalloped potatoes (with Jaroudi's amazing squash cheese sauce), some compliant desserts, Chef AJ's jam bars for breakfast! Then I make those meals at the beginning of the week! It was a light bulb moment when I realized this for my personality! Sauces and dressings really help too!

Omigosh! Melissa and I are food twins..I pretty much prep and eat everything she does.: right down to buy the big container of greens and chop it with kitchen scissors and mix it with what ever I eat, even a baked potato.
I too love jasmin rice, I also love mixing beans rice, add some corn in there cilantro lime. In fact baking potatoes to have on hand right now I always make oatmeal at the beginning of the week and press into a pan for easy servings.
I also make Esther Loveridge instant pot rice and beans... I follow Esthers nutritional Journey and get a lot of simple ideas from her (rice and beans) so in fact Esthers way is quite similar to Melissa as well! Thank you for the red lentil idea too
Unfortunately for me, I eat all this healthy low calorie, nutritionally dense foods but potato chips sometimes make their way back in, still working on that!
Also thank you Chef AJ for all the interviews you orchestrate with the most interesting people! I look forward to your vids!💞

I have to tell you both how much this video inspired me.
    I hate salads too, Melissa.
I’d recently plateaued after doing a potato fast and IF ala Penn Jillette’s/Ray Cronise. I’ve been ok during the week because I’m on my feet all day at work, but at home on the weekends, I’ve been eating junk. (dropped 40, but soon gave back 10)
I’ve seriously been contemplating moving more towards Dr Fuhrman’s plan, but it looks like so much salad.
    Bleach!
I knew about AJs loss from eating several lbs of greens, and recently discovered Melissa putting a fistful of greens in whatever she can.
    Yesterday, I did just that.
Smoothie with a ton of greens, burrito bowl with greens and my fave commercial salsa (mango & habanero), and steamed broccoli.
The thing about eating lots of greens, for me, is it makes me urinate… a lot!
Woke up this morning down 2.8 lbs!!
Water loss or fat loss, I don’t care.
Feeling AMAZING! And can’t wait to find new and fun ways to make this work!
    Thanks to both of you!

And so true how moderation probably won’t work for the 2/3 of the overweight population, who all
probably prefer large portions. The key is to make low-calorie versions of favorite foods...
If only more restaurants would use airfryers (especially for fast-food places) and cooked with less or no oil, and offer lighter foods (maybe not include all the layers bacon, cheese, and aioli on a sandwich, but only one and offer other other toppings as additions), or they could offer low-fat aioli and other fat-free replacements (ie. Bbq sauce) I almost always have to make modifications since most restaurants make too many layers of fat!

The local plant-based restaurant bakes no-oil potato fries and tops it with light mushroom gravy, and the plant-based cheese is the only heavy thing. For example, another WFPB person I follow on RUclips said they had to just eat plain boiled potatoes, because if they added something that made them taste better (not like a fatty sauce, but for example just a little salt, or potato chez sauce made of potatoes, carrots, beans and nutritional yeast) they would end up over eating potatoes and gain weight. I heard you talk about how you can't gain weight eating foods under 600 cal/lb. Is that true if you're making those foods taste extra good with salt, a favorite vinegar, or potato cheez sauce, or something that makes you eat way more than you might without that in top (and therefore sort of miss your natural hunger cues)?

Sorry this reply is so late, but from what i've learned from Dr. McDougall its the salt that make us feel not as satisfied and keep eating. Salt won't cause fat gain, but it will cause water weight gain. So limiting salt a bit, you might get full and not feel the need to keep eating as much. Other seasonings, vinegar, shouldn't do this though. Hence why processed/fast foods are loaded with salt. So people will keep eating them, in turn making them more money. Hope this helped.

If u are still craving cheese sauce, that tells me u never completed the fat withdrawal. One u do a 21 day withdrawal, u won't crave fake cheese, fat & grease anymore

I agree. Harder to have strong cravings when you're fully satisfied with real food. Those are the two areas where I slip up is when I don't prep enough food and don't eat enough overall.

What I don't get (and have mentioned this on other videos people have posted) is that our bodies are not stupid. If you are only eating a meal of 300 calories that is bulky, your body will know you ate a low calorie meal and make you starving soon after. You can't trick it into thinking that it ate more calories than it actually ate. I have personally experienced this when I've eaten very low fat. Water and fiber doesn't cut it for me.

This way of eating works for me. I find potatoes/sweet potato keeps me full with my salad or veges and legumes.
Potatoes have a high satiety index.
I'm not as strict as Chef AJ - I love avacado and eat nuts now and than. When I eat at friends homes/get togethers I accept the food may have some oil or sugar in it, the food isn't going to be like what I make at home/prepare myself. So I give myself that flexibility.

I think you have to add more starches - I’ve tried sticking to mostly veg and ran into the same issues as you, which would result in binging. Now I’ve upped the starches I’m a lot more satisfied; I believe Jeff Novick speaks about this in his video about calorie density

@Peter Rabbit I Do eat all types of legumes and beans as I follow the starch solution as well as lots of greens. I'm just trying to troubleshoot to find out how to make this work for me. I'm not a man what works for my husband does not always work for me. If you are someone with a preexisting health condition eating to much lentils and beans can make you I'll especially if you suffer with kidney problems.

Chef AJ is amazing, so are the doctors and RUclipsrs she supports, but the only thing that most of them get wrong is their demonisation of omega 3 oils. A tablespoon of chia seeds is NOT the same as a tablespoon of peanut putter. Our bodies DO need omega 3s. They're incredibly healing, and it's a myth that they make you put on weight. I've lost 30 KGs following Brooke Goldner's step down program, a person who chef AJ has had on her show. I've included up to 6 tablespoons of flax oil OR 1/2 cup of chia seeds or flax seeds per day, as per Dr Goldner's recommendations for rapid healing.
I just wish more people understood that chia and flax seeds, and flax oil are actually very healing, important for nervous system and brain health, and HELP you lose weight, NOT put it on. Watch Dt Goldner's videos on RUclips and do the research. X

It's 1am and there you are on America Says!!!!!! Yay! with Caleb, Caesar, and Kurt. I think I'll stay up a bit longer and watch the rest of this. Your team is Cooking Club. What a nice surprise! I enjoyed your show today with Melissa, and especially enjoyed your birthday show with the McDougalls, Happy birthday, again. I'm amazed at your energy and dedication to producing these broadcasts. Your energy must come from all that kale and potatoes.

Thank you so much for encouraging people to eat well and not focus on the weight! Chef AJ I am learning so much from watching your videos and I'm excited to watch Melissa's videos now too. I was Paleo for a while and love how much weight I lost but became disturbed by the amount of meat I was eating. I'm still learning how to set myself up for success as a busy mom and the only PBWF member of the household. Watching these videos continues to motivate me to take care of myself and lean into this eating style.
