Watched this in the morning before getting out of bed. I needed inspiration and this is it. After 20 mins I was up and dressed then went straight into the kitchen and threw out all the foods that would hinder me. I’ve been vegan for 4 years since the age of 58. I always dipped into WFPB as my goal. But I’m lazy! I’m going to watch the rest then walk to the shops for fresh plant food. I have back pain so sometimes it’s difficult to get about but today the sun is shining and I feel good!
This is one of my favourite interviews with Chef AJ; I've watched it three times now! I love Doug's engaging manner and I love his uncomplicated approach to food. I agree that too much variety fosters overeating, and that I can do without. I have no desire to create elaborate meals that mimic the kinds of food that got me into difficulty with my weight in the first place. Doug's persistence and tenacity is so inspiring.
This guest, Doug, is so phenomenal! His presentation was thorough and methodically laid out. He answered all the questions before they could be asked! Thank you Doug and AJ…totally inspirational and motivational .
I have to thank Micheal Greger too for turning vegan but indirectly!. My son-in- law had bought the book- How not to die- in 2021 August. It was too fat a book to read so I googled the book in early October, 2021 and found Chef A J's utube where Doctor John McDougall was defending rice and the potato!. I am a rice eater and in India it's very common to hear that rice causes diabetes, and potatoes make you fat! I was fascinated with his lectures and changed from vegetarian to vegan. What a blessing! At 65 I run long distances and play tennis without any pains. My father, Retd.Air Marshal P V Iyer, 92 years of age, has just written a book on fitness. " Fit at any age". It's available for pre-order on Amazon!
Such a fantastic interview and presentation, I love hearing Doug’s story. I can definitely relate to his sentiment regarding cooking and making complicated recipes. I’d much rather be working than cooking. I need fast easy meals, my body feels best eating simple and I never get bored with the beautiful rainbow of foods on this WFPB lifestyle. 🌱🍉💕
Thankyou Doug and Chef AJ. I am the same as Doug, lazy, but I am mobility impaired. I need foods to just put together. Thanks for talking about nuts, gone from my life now! Looking forward to shopping for packaged salads and vegetables. Thanks again. I’m 71 have diabetes and several other dis-eases.
thank you so much to Doug for sharing his journey - it was much appreciated! I don't know if I could do the simple same old thing, because I feel like I crave variety - but that may be that I'm missing some nutrition that I'm not getting. I started vegan almost three years ago, and it's still a journey. Thanks again to Doug - he was quite enjoyable to listen to, and I liked how his background in science backed up what he was learning. :)
Glad that on day 4 fifteen thousand people have watched Doug’ s presentation. This is truly one of the bast chef AJ shows ever. Other than his calorie counting, I totally agree with him. Todd
This interview with Doug is one of the best in my opinion! Why? It's such a clear evidence that a very SIMPLE WFPB SOS free diet that one repeats over and over again is sooo good for weight loss AND for regained health.
Excellent presentation, Doug. I resonate with your message to keep your diet simple. I don’t like cooking either. If it takes longer than 15 minutes to prep, I tend to think it isn’t worth the time. Thanks for pointing out the calorie density of nuts and seeds. I think that is something I need to pay attention to.
This presentation really resonates with me. Doug's weight loss journey seems to be very similar to mine. While I am not vegan, I am very close to it, and I lost 55 kg myself. I totally agree with the cooking part. My cooking also happens in the microwave, with the exception of soybeans which I make in an Instant Pot. Doug is completely correct: calorie tracking is great.
Absolutely love you Doug! You had me laughing with your laziness but it’s so fabulous that you have neuro adapted this life to your lazy ways love it so inspiring I am going to try to get my husband to watch this !
I think this is what I need too. Calorie density and counting. Thank you for this interview! Love the try again, try again, try again and if all else fails, try again!
Thank you Chef Aj and Thank you very much Doug Lerner for sharing your experience, I was diagnosed type 2 diabetes a month ago and have been watching videos, read a couple books and have had a few starts of Vegan diet .. so has you said, I think it's time to start again. I am very much a fat lazy person right now with no energy , just had my 63rd Birthday , and I'm too young to feel and act so old .. Love your smiles , thank you both again
As a person who is morbidly obese (I am 100lbs overweight) and I am highly addicted to sugar, eating out at restaurants, and processed foods, I had to include a small number of nuts in my day. Only because it is helping me to get "off" of the unhealthy food easier. However, I am seeing that as it gets easier to increase my WFPB foods, I am craving the nuts and seeds less.
My most amazing thing was he doesn’t care what they are eating, I do okay at times but that’s where when I fall off it’s what is in my house cos of hubby, and we are both retired and yea I can’t say eat it when at work etc. but I try.. congratulations on all your success.
He is absolutely correct. I am gaining on wfpb diet because I can out eat a 300 pound man! (I’m 5’3”) I don’t seem to have any fullness signs. Thanks for this video!
I totally am the same, I'm 5'2" and there is no limit to how much I can eat. The calorie counting may be what we need along with the wfpb way. Glad I'm not alone.
I love this guy! I agree 100% there are some of us who have to count calories even on a whole food plant-based diet. I’ve been doing it for years and it’s been very effective. I’m never hungry but it also make sure that I get enough to eat. Great interview
Got to fill up on vegetables before a meal. There's no counting calories with them. Don't bake or air fry the water out of them either. Just steam them. U will be surprised how they fill u up for hours.
Wow, what a wonderful presentation and story! Was so lovely getting to meet Doug :) extra fun for me who have lived in Tokyo myself ^^ thank you so much, such a delight
Very good, so enjoyed listening to his journey and tips, I now understand what I need to change, nuts and too many recipes may be my undoing, although all nice and healthy it's just too much for me now I am in my sixties, so will find some favourites and stick to a simpler diet, thank you chef AJ for amazing guests and information.
Thanks so much for this presentation Doug, your journey is really inspiring! I really love how you found very easy and efficient ways of eating plant based meals.
Love this video! I do actually sometimes like to cook and follow recipes when I have the time, but mostly I do not like it at all. I just want to eat simple foods. Doug is inspiring! I'm going to be like Doug and lose a bunch of weight. :D I'm starting at 263 lbs.
Loved this guy! He simplified simple. I also concur with him that you cannot trust eating until you are comfortably full. Calories do matter, whether you count them or not - And he does. Great interview, so inspiring. One more thing, if I’m not mistaken, he basically cooks with a microwave only. Wow!
Yes, basically just a microwave. Occasionally I might heat up some frozen veggies in a pan of water. But that's it. I actually tried my first InstantPot experiment yesterday (plugged it in for the first time in the 3 years since I bought it). The test to make sure it was operational worked, but my first attempt at cooking (just a few potatoes) failed and I ended up recooking them in the microwave.
Gr Gregar says you can eat a bit of nuts everyday ,definitely NOT a handfull,i eat nuts everyday sprinked on a huge salad for 3 years now, weight constant since it lost weight from 92 to 78 going wfpb, enjoy life and welldone🎉
i eat the same meals each day like him.less hassle and save on money and time.thats cos im also lazy.and why rush when youre eating wfpb diet.youl lose the weight.iv tried it and weight keeps coming off.lost 10 kg in 2 months.

This interview was fabulous..Ty AJ..I lost 100 lbs on WFPB also..it's the best lifestyle...❤️
Have u kept it off? I always find the last 5 lbs wants to keep creeping back on!
This guest, Doug, is so phenomenal! His presentation was thorough and methodically laid out. He answered all the questions before they could be asked! Thank you Doug and AJ…totally inspirational and motivational .

This was one of your best interviews. Just a normal guy in my age bracket. I can relate to him. Thanks AJ!
I agree - I am in a bit of a different age bracket - but this was very engaging and relatable. Definitely one of the best.
What a wonderful interview from a regular person, not a health professional!
This was such a great presentation! Doug is so thorough and interesting. Thank you for introducing him to us!
“Try again”… YES!

Oh my goodness love this interview…he is so down to earth…love the don’t give up message….what an honest guy. Thank you both! 😊

That was a great presentation. As someone starting out on a low fat vegan diet who has failed miserably eating just ‘vegan’ I was greatly encouraged.
"How not to die" book was instrumental for me as well. Doug is right. Such a pleasure to hear his story!

Great interview and awesome to see someone of our older community who accomplished so much. Amazing!
"middle-aged" LOL 😆
his before and after pictures really tell his story.....his smile is fabulous!
What a nice man! And a very relaxed way of eating & living life! Made so much sense!
Glad that on day 4 fifteen thousand people have watched Doug’ s presentation. This is truly one of the bast chef AJ shows ever. Other than his calorie counting, I totally agree with him. Todd
BRILLIANT SO INTERESTING IM GOING TO TRY AGAIN...THANKYOU DOUG CHEF AJ 😁❤
Great interview, even for those who need to lose a smaller amount of weight...very encouraging!
Really enjoyed this interview. I am encouraged by his journey.

One of my favorite Chef AJ interviews! I really enjoyed listening to Doug's story!
Well done, Doug! If you haven't already, check out Healthy Emmie. She's WFPB, avoids oils, and doesn't like to spend too much in the kitchen either! 😉
What’s a great story about “self-cared” approaches!!! Kudos to you for sharing 👏👏👏
This was such an interesting presentation! I love all the details he provided. I would buy his book!
Thanks for sharing your story. It was very inspirational. I especially appreciate the message to keep trying again until you find what works for you.

Fantastic interview. So inspirational. Great advice...if at first you don't succeed, try try again! Thank-you Chef AJ for another great program
I love the simplicity! If it’s too complicated, it gets overwhelming.
