Welcome to Texas! As a Dallas player and former Austin resident, I loved all of the Texas talk about the game and the real estate situation in the state. And you guys are a welcome addition to the scene!
This was an excellent discussion, I really enjoyed the real estate talk as well.
Have been following you both for years now, it's fantastic to see you guys do this together. Thanks & great Pod!
The quality of these podcast are so insanely good. Thank you
Really enjoyable, you both brought something to the table.
Doug you should open a card club in Austin and call it “The Polker Room”
Oh because his last name is Polk which sounds like the Poke in Poker. Thats Gold Jerry!😁

You must not be a long time fan of Doug’s

Kind of like you got the joke
I honestly really like you guys doing content together!
we believe you.
Good discussion. I watch a lot of Barts content from Crush Live Poker. Been watching a lot of the TCH poker and enjoying the action.
Glad your back on RUclips Doug
Such a great convo!
I enjoyed this all around diff subject. This one was good
Best podcast yet. Loved all the conversation even the non poker stuff
Lay off the crack
Great podcast, I'd love to see the 2 of you do a monthly podcast.
Would be cool to see you go over some of the WSOP events, final tables, players, covid regulations, all of it
One of my favorite pods. Two GOATS. Bart should be a regular
this was awesome!
One of my favorite podcasts, and even more so now that they opened the show with a spirited discussion of property tax policy 👀
I live in Round Rock and play at The Lodge and loved this entire conversation.
Great Podcast Doug. We love you too!
Great timeframe, Doug!
Great conversation guys
I can see the Super Bowl ad now. “Come on down to Doug’s Room for all the top Austin poker action. Doug’s Room: More rake...or we’re going under.”
Texas doesn't allow rake. The room, by law, cannot benefit directly from the game. Players pay a rental fee for their seat; about $13 hr. Other clubs draw one person to pay table time for the entire table every hour (usually $85). That's why many play bomb pots at every dealer change; and the winner pays the table time.
Interesting to go back and listen to your discussion on possibly owning a card room
Part 2 I’m waiting
Live poker games are hard to figure....
Phoenix is a huge city with at least 4 million people in the Metro area.
The rake is still reasonable. Yet we have one room that runs about 15 tables mid-week and maybe 30 on weekends. We have one room that runs maybe 7 games mid week and 12 on weekends. We have ore or two other tiny rooms.
We have no PLO, though it used to run on weekends (one table).
The same houses I was trying to buy for $300k in Feb 2020 are now just shy of $500k. Completely bananas.
sup baby doll great pod cast all great topics thats why we love you youre always so spot on inside and out of the poker topics and keeping it balanced and im gonna speak on everyones behalf and say youre going to vegas! vegas baby vegas! doing some recon on the WSOP and reporting back to me and the rest of the poker lostboys BangaRang! dougy! bang o rang!
We've got teams of people playing live and chopping up the others at the table A LOT down in San Diego at 7-Mile Casino.. Like up to 4 or 5 players on a single table working together.
Euros are going to absolutely FLOOD Texas when international travel opens up
TBH Bart is exactly right. In La and Vegas, they were sitting 24/7 in every single 2/5 and 5/10 NL game. They’d make fun of the recs and they also were obviously sharing a bankroll. I’d fully support keeping games semi restrictive although I understand that seems absurd from an all inclusive POV.
@@mothhater5134 ok then if you want to come to the eu you should be ban also right? wtf is with this shit mentality
@@btrading4996 I agree it’s semi fucked up, but that would be within their right
when I was at TCH/Dallas they could only bring you booze that you brought in with you and only had packaged chips and candy bars for purchase. You are also restricted by county regulations, thats why there are no card rooms in Fort Worth
1:19:00 on not naming the guests, I get what you're saying but honestly you could just put their name at the end of the title. It makes life a lot easier to find interviews, and when people search for them they can find the interviews on your channel.
If Joe Rogan can name them in the title so can you Doug!!
19:51 ended with
"i actually heard that its better for the game..." I DIED HAHAHAHHAHA
I’d love you to bring in some guests that specialize in DFS/sportsbetting, maybe some that have poker backgrounds like Ray Coburn
Good to see the admission that low stakes poker in Cali both no limit and limit are unbeatable because of the rake.I’ve had so many “pros” try to tell me otherwise.
Doug and Bart, two of my favorites in the poker world. 😍💪
So I was poor as shit in my early adult years and came up with some ok ways of getting heat into the house when the gas got shut off. Gas stove light the top burners making sure everything is clear of course. Electric stove fire up the oven and let the door hang open. At one point we ran out of propane for the house and had I resorted to a small 2 burner propane camp stove to get a little heat in the house.
Phenomenal pod
DFW is considered the largest Metro area in Texas now with Houston being now 2nd . In terms of just city population it does go Houston, SA, Dallas and Austin. But Dallas is a much bigger Metro area then SA
Built my house in N. Fort Worth near Texas Motor Speedway in Oct 2019 - it's gone up 40% in value since.
nobody cares-get a life statistic boy
Just visited TCH dallas, absolutely insanity there, ya love to see it
Johnny Chan’s 88 Social is the monster club in Houston. They have more PLO tables going at one time than in all the casinos in Las Vegas combined.
They have more plo games going than holdem. All their 5-5 games that are played are also plo.
I want you and Bart to cover how to CRUSH VIDEO POKER
Perhaps the solution is to have a few locals only private clubs if the locals are worried about it. It can't be all of the casinos or even most of them, perhaps the licenses can be handed out in ratio's where it's inclusive or private club in a certain ratio.
Bart is a good guest
Great episode! Would love to see you bring in Jonathan Little as a guest. Since you both manage poker training sites + youtube channels I think this would make a great episode

It cracks me up the way Millenials think they create everything that's ever existed. "Content creators". They used to be called authors. People wrote books articles about all the same stuff vloggers talk about now. And cities would build holding facilities -- called libraries -- to house all the content. And you could purchase the "content" in most malls around the country at places called "book stores." And the store owners called the number of people visiting the store "foot" traffic. The format has changed. But it's not like the world suddenly woke up the idea of sharing information. I think "Infotainers" is the better name and more accurate in the historical context, because that is the "content" that you are "creating." But then again, my barber holds herself out as a hair stylist. So, knock yourself out.
Lol very good
Please let us know when Selbst Social poker club is coming. BTW, great podcast two of my favorite poker duo.
cause she goes all in w j-4 off then whines
Seriously. Two smart, likable guys. You should seriously make more content together. Bart balances out Doug’s goofiness.
Texas Card House used to have a podcast called “from the felt” they used to do before they had a separation of the guys that ran that business...
It was interesting bc it detailed “legal” poker in texas and what happened in recent history where room owners/operators were arrested and how that lead to the operators figuring out and challenging/working w the states and cities that had these rooms to be allowed to operate.... it’s a shame they didn’t continue this series w a better format.... worth a listen for Texas Poker topic if you’re interested.
Good pod though... you and Bart were awesome 👍
Did they say that no new clubs could open. Only the ones that already existed?
@@laurenwilliams777 New clubs should be able to open up... TCH Dallas has only been up and running for barely a year or so... I think if you have proper legal folk look at the business models of all the "legal" rooms running now, there shouldn't be an issue. Texas doesn't have any licensing necessary that is specific to gaming or operation of card rooms. So it would seem that you could just open a room if you had the capital and a good population of players
Great Podcast
The election betting stuff was interesting.
Billy Walters as a guest?
"It was below freezing during the day!". LOL... Our high is zero today.
Membership clubs is exactly what I saw in Ireland. It’s a thing.
Doug throw barts name in the title... crush live poker is pretty huge... RUclips community supports Bart
Poker aside , I can`t believe some of the costs you have to `deal` with. A $1M home in UK ~ $3k equivalent COUNCIL TAX per annum v ten times that in US.
High speed internet $50 v $120.
Lots of other comparisons.
Great podcast Doug and Bart. I am in AZ and enjoyed your discussion of Texas poker. Seems like AZ is somewhere in between Vegas and Texas as you both described them. On the WSOP discussion, masks work so well that I think WSOP would be better off having a mask mandate. Vaccination is great but chance of breakthrough infections is still meaningful with delta, mostly important because then it can be passed on to others. Like you said conditions for testing are difficult to figure out. Masking is straightforward to enforce, and frankly the point of masking is that even if someone is sick, it cuts down the risk of spread by a lot.
I live in Texas and for all of the benefit of having no income tax has been evaporated over the last few years by ridiculous property taxes. Thousands of Texans that have retired or near retirement age are having to sell their homes because property taxes have skyrocketed.
The San Antonio City is the second largest because the city is almost the same size as the metro. So the SA metro is almost completely SA city. DFW metro is definitely much much larger than San Antonio metro.
hey so if i was a "euro" where should i move to play poker with less "rake" ??
In# asutin
I played in the tent. It was crazy.
San Antonio isn't the 2nd largest metro area in Texas. It's the 2nd highest city population in Texas because Dallas is landlocked and fully developed and the only way for them to gain residents is to start stacking them like New York or annexing cities like Houston. Dallas metro is the 4th largest metro in the US.
Do any of the Texas rooms run mid range limit games. i.e. 8-16 to 20-40 Omaha, O8 or Hold'em?
Jonnie Chan’s run s hi lo 15/ 30 5 days
When discussing scans... doug didn't bring up when a "friend" of his came to his house and plugged something into the back of his computer, then sat him at HUNL and saw his hole cards. Or was that someone else?
That wasn’t Doug.
Doug,
We are going to open up a new poker room called Lengends Poker room in Houston. We would love for you to come play. I been following you forever.
Tks
Should definitely call it The Polker Room
absolutely a balance. Its a lot of pressure being a board operator. "Attention players starting a..." yep I still got it and well Augusta GA. Meh.

I do adore Bart Hanson!
Bart is a legend....
So, what are some of the better places to play around Austin?
The lodge
Texas Card house
Palms

Coincidentally all three have a live stream
Bart = the goat
Bart, if the power grid goes down in summer, you get in the car, turn on the AC, and drive to Colorado.
Hey Doug, you asked, so here it is:
- I enjoy your interview with poker guests. Great job with those.
- I don't care at all for the crypto/NFT stuff
- Regarding the video titles, would it lower the clickbait power to add your name and the guest name at the end of the title?
I mean, having Vanessa Selbts on would be the power move. We'd know 100% for sure you're not the same person
They already have playing restrictions at some clubs. I've seen streams where if your VPIP drops below a certain point (18% I think) you get booted from the game.
Oh wow.

Based on the established trend, we might move to Austin from Melbourne.
I think once Foxen and Bicknall declare their interest in each other, AND offered a deal to the 3rd player, then tacit collusion is fair. Like several players calling an all in of a short stack and then checking to the river
then they cheated
Please could someone explain to me what best-handing is in terms of collusion?
Bart where can you play VP in Texas?
Doug do Gram Stephens podcast. “The ice coffee hour”. He is a multi millionaire very deep in the finance space. Specialty in Real estate and index funds. Millions of subs on here to. Gram Stephan
Listening on 12/14
Johnny Chan, no mas
What Bart is talking about is the Euro player will rent a house and mob with 20 players and the local game has become a single sucker playing against 8 roommates
The reason the 2nd Brad Owen post didn't get as many views is because it looked so like the first post that people thought they had already watched it and didn't click it.
So Bart, in order to break even against the rake in low stakes in Austin you need to win 5-6BB an hour. How many players are winning 7BB an hour and do you consider winning 1BB winning?
If your playing 5 10 and make 1 bb I.e 10 bucks an hour ..are u winning ? Answer your own question..u spend more on drinks etc..u can't make living with that, your under minimum Wage then
Doug, I have a landlord/friend who has a space in downtown Dallas that we have agreed to turn into a poker room. Right now we’re sort of just keeping the conversation open, but would definitely like to include you if you are that interested in it. I don’t know how to contact you but... lmk if you get this

Can't speak for anyone else but I would've watched this much sooner if I knew Bart was the guest.
Agree with Doug that you have to know what you're getting into with WSOP. You will get exposed to any number of viruses. Don't play if that's a concern.
Re: visibly sick players - what if you have one on a streamed FT?
you guys do realise it's not real right?
@@daxatax129 its definitely real its just not as deadly as they make it out to be. A consolidation of power for full enslavement by 2030.
Heck we had Woodstock the same year the world's worst pandemic was happening- 3 million people died then and we didn't need any shut downs or "vaccines" . Referring to the Hong Kong flu
If doug opened a room with a bit less of a vulture culture, and a nice friendly atmosphere he might turn it to be really great. Needs a proper resturant attached and needs to serve alcohol, so its a bit of an investement, but if someone could do it doug would be the one.
Glad Vanessa selbst can stay busy doing these podcasts.
57:52 freaking BOOM
You can't legally ban someone from playing poker based on if they are American or not, at least not as explicitly as you suggest around the 37th minute mark. You may be able to go to individual players and ban them, but u can't make it as explicit as requiring an American ID
then give a locals discount. if you have a Texas lisense, or even a us lisense charge regular time, and if someone has a euro passport charge them 100 dollars an hour. that's perfectly legal.
Doug, glad youre wearing big boy shirts
because fart hanson is so much fun to play with.
Doug is a smart guy off the felt, too.
Doug, I applaud you on your tan. It's a healthy look.
It's not just euro players that do that tho, it's pros in general.
Yea there's definitely plenty of US pros doing the same, but as a European I have to admit that Europeans (especially Northern Europeans like Germans, scandinavians) are definitely a lot stiffer than the Americans as a whole.
@@Buceesfanmaarten ok, sure. The larger point tho that Bart is making (advertent or not) is that these guys make the game less fun and more srs. Ok, any game that takes on an influx of pros no matter where they are from, is going to become more srs and less fun. If the Texas boom attracts 50 new winning players over the next 12 months, you think the current regulars are gonna care where they came from? No. Look, games everywhere are private. It's inevitably going to happen in TX as well.
Love the Disneyland shirt
If everyone is vaccinated who cares whether or not someone is testing positive at the table, everyone is protected right?
Really makes you wonder what the point of getting vaccinated is since they are running around trying to only be around other vaccinated people
If you guys don't wear your life jackets in the pool, I might drown...even if I am wearing my life jacket.
San Antonio is a great city for poker
