Thanks, I have the same laptop. Did I hear correctly or did you say you can add more than 8Gbs of RAM. I thought since it has a module of 4Gbs soldered, you can only add 8Gbs for a total of 12Gbs.
Crucial says you can add up to 20gb of RAM, I usually trust their info but I take that with a grain of salt. They do sell a 16gb module with a function guarantee, so there's that.
@@casey360360 I understand your Lenovo only supports 12 Gbs max. So even if a 16Gbs fits, it might not work and be a waste of money i am sure it is not cheap. My two cents. 4gbs built in, 8Gbs, added for a total of 12 Gbs, works for me.
This is one of the things i heard from the store where i bought my Lenovo, that the max RAM it would accept is only 12GB. I am not sure if this is still real. All the other people i asked said theres no such thing.
Physically you can add all the ram memory you can afford. But will your BIOS support it? I have checked directly with Lenovo, and 12 GBs is all it supports, 4 already soldered in and a new 8 GBs stick in the slot. There you can put a 32GBs if you can find it and afford it, but the system will not recognize it, nor use it. M.2 SSD hard drive on the other hand is no problem.
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14IML05 (Core i5 variant, spec up to 64GB RAM) which as per official Lenovo Manual could only go up to 12 GB and I got 36GB total (4GB built-in + 32GB) working just fine and being used completedly (35.8 GB) and shared with its Intel UHD Graphics.

I wanted to upgrade my laptop which is exactly like this I got all the in the video. I successfully upgraded the ram but now that I'm trying to upgrade the ssd how do I go about booting it up when it has nothing on it?
Yes you can, that processor can handle up to 64 GB RAM, so your laptop should be able to handle a 32 GB Module for a total of 36 GB or 40 GB (depending on the RAM soldered to to the motherboard).
To be honest, you really don't need to remove the battery. It's probably best practice but I've worked on hundreds of machines, and the only ones I usually do disconnect the power is desktops, simply because they can give you a good shock. I haven't had any issues with laptops though. But luckily the batteries are easy to disconnect, but usually replacing RAM and SSDs you generally don't need to. If you are replacing the system board or soldering, then yes you should definitely disconnect the battery, but I would say for most "toolless" or light jobs like SSD or memory upgrades, I don't find it necessary most of the time Also, despite Lenovo's documentation you can install a 16GB stick into the RAM slot and get something like 20GB of RAM. Did this to my non-I Ideapad 3 and it works fine. Actually did a full upgrade to a 1TB 2280 SSD and will be adding a 2TB 2.5" drive soon. Upgraded the RAM to 20GB total (4 GB built in + 16GB stick from Crucial).

If you want to keep the same OS and all files, clone the original SSD in the new one before doing the swap. If not, you will have to do a backup of files and install OS and all programs from start in the new drive after installation.
A Gen 4 PCIe SSD will work, but it will only run at Gen 3 speeds. Gen 4 gives little real world performance benefits and increased power consumption anyway, see my video here: ruclips.net/video/45gg0QHOjkE/видео.html
So I think you can, because Lenovo states on their site that the models with the 35W battery (which is shown here) has the 2.5" drive bay, but the version with the 45W battery does not have the bay adapter as the battery covers this area. My guess though is you might have to find an adhesive to secure the battery unless it secures into the same screw holes as the 2.5" drive caddy/cover. Otherwise some double-sided foam tape should work. I haven't done this myself but I think you could probably use the 45W battery in this model, however I don't think you could go the other way necessarily (45W to a 35W model). Also, you may also need the power adapter that comes with the 45W version too as that may put out more power than the 35W version (the 35Whr version uses a 65W power adapter but check as they may use the same AC adapter).
