My favorite song of all time!
Bill is a national treasure. He wrote 5 of the most recognized and covered songs of our time. He only performed live a handful of times and this recording is probably the rarest of the rare. What a gift we received as a human race. I can’t think of any one person in my lifetime who has moved so many emotions with the one hand that he penned this music with. Godspeed Mr Withers.
I just love how the crowd was so quiet in the sing along, now you do a sing along and the crowd kind of ruins the singing.

I remember in middle school a student died from cancer, our principal gathered the whole school we walked to his house (which was only about 5mins away) and song this song for his mother this song has always stuck with me.
i knew a student who had died of leukemia, sadly we didnt do this but we did have an emotional support group for the students who got really hit by his death
i bet his mom was touched and i hope karma rewards every one of you!

A friend at work was telling me how his Dad always made their family sing this after Sunday dinner. I am a base baritone and he is a tenor. We looked at one another and started singing. Little did we know the AC vent directly above us was amplifying our singing over the whole call center floor. It wasn't long before a supervisor came running it to tell us to shut up. When we went back to work everyone gave us a thumbs up. An unforgettable moment. Thanks Bill!
Reminds me of how delight life is. How it is growing upamd thining that you will always have the Friends you have. How you think that good things will stay and bad things will leave as fast as they came. As a 39 Year old father i now know that none of this will happen. I remember growing up as a half Asian in Germany and Racists told me i am worth nothing. How my Teacher and Class Mates told me that i will grow up being nothing. 2018 i made the Change. Leaving the Country traveling the World as a gratuated Chef. 2013 i came to Switzerland and i met my Wife. She teached me to be someone. Gratuated as a Supply Chain Specialist and being ably to support my old mom and my Family. So what is life all about? Beeing able to take opportunities ones you see them not beeing afraid of what might happen. But i paid a price for that. There is almost no one left that i can lean on. But thats fine...the few that are left are more than i bargained for. Wishing you all the best.
It was a different world back then. Bill Withers didn't have lots of hit songs but the ones that he did have are timeless classics. You don't hear "Like a Virgin" and get emotional. Like that. He was a timeless classic classy artist. He stirred millions upon millions of emotional responses and memories with his songs

I remember senior year in High school we all sang this song and the girls cried and the boys had long faces of emotion. Wild how emotional music can make people. Theres always that tune you can absorb. This is one for sure. Thanks Bill. Your an icon and will forever hold a place in millions of peoples hearts. This song touches my heart every time and makes me a little teary-eyed each time the lyrics go on. It's times like this I wish I was born during these times to feel it just a little more. This song is so powerful and should always be remembered. This should be the anthem of the American people. THIS and many other songs from this time can help us set so many differences aside and come together as a people. Just my opinion....

This song has always had significance to me, but it became even more important to me when I was dealing with the news of my friend passing away. The day I found out, which was the day after his death, was also the day I found out Bill had died just days before. Two terrible deaths within a week, and I had just found out about them the same day. RIP Bill and Ethan🙏

I was in dire need of a friend 48 years ago when this song came out. To this day no matter where I am or what I might be doing if this comes on I stop everything and sing along. It helps me to remember to help others who have helped me along the way. Thank you Bill. You truly gave the gift of a lifetime to those who really listened and 'got' your message. I remember countless nights in TN, in a bar called two doors down. One person would put the song in queue and when the song came on, everyone and I mean everyone in that narrow bar would grab shoulders or put there arms in the air and sing the chorus so loud. Those nights helped me through my hardest times.

My mum Margaret Peel(1964-2022),loved this song so much. She rewrote the lyrics in Kiswahili. I still remember at about 5 years of age watching the Morgan Freeman movie, "Lean On Me"- just me and her. When she died, a part of me was buried with her. She introduced me to good music. And yes, Billy Withers is an embodiment of what good music is.

True musician--no auto tune or fancy gizmos--just great singing and lyrics that go to the heart. It was so great that he walked away, or at least, stepped back from the avaricious music "business" that wrings creativity and spontaneity out of the artist while lining their own pockets.

My second grade teacher Mrs.Jenkins made us sing this everyday before we started to learn. She then began class with prayer to the creator. Spiritual music was all that could get some of the people through a depressing life of servitude, with no concept of recognition, let alone growth nor advancement. It's soul-crushing for even the greatest humans, and a hellish fate too cruel for even the worst criminals. It's tempting to dehumanize the perpetrator in retaliation, but that would make us no better than those deplorables. We all need something to look forward to in life, and sadly, many of these people only had the cold embrace of Thanatos to look forward to, or "winning the freedom lottery" by running away and not getting caught.
Telling all this to my Boomer dad, who thinks the Founding Fathers were some of the best moral leaders by breaking from their king, and he ignores that they kept slaves. Sigh.
