Spiritual music was all that could get some of the people through a depressing life of servitude, with no concept of recognition, let alone growth nor advancement. It's soul-crushing for even the greatest humans, and a hellish fate too cruel for even the worst criminals. It's tempting to dehumanize the perpetrator in retaliation, but that would make us no better than those deplorables. We all need something to look forward to in life, and sadly, many of these people only had the cold embrace of Thanatos to look forward to, or "winning the freedom lottery" by running away and not getting caught. Telling all this to my Boomer dad, who thinks the Founding Fathers were some of the best moral leaders by breaking from their king, and he ignores that they kept slaves. Sigh.
@@RobbieBlue You don't accept that you have a narrow mind. Yet you've literally proven that I'm right in calling it that. The smoking gun here is shown when you jump to conclusions about me. Saying I'm a white supremacist merely because I dont buy into your racist agenda. Like really dude? Music is music. I think people of all backgrounds have shown this to us. Don't you realize that you're the one constantly making these things about race? Yes YOU ARE THE ONE'S DIVIDING THINGS UP IN TERMS OF RACE. You're heading down a bad road as this is exactly what your masters wanted you to do. The media has always posed as for the people but is always used against us instead. It is easy to conquer a group of people if you've made them busy thinking they need to fight one another. You poor clown, you really think you could tell me where my soul plays into things. You don't know what the hell you're even talking about anymore.
@@StephenGillie They kept slaves yes, but if you read about the rest of the world during their time you would realize that everyone else was as well. In fact, the slaves they kept were sold to them by their own neighbors who defeated them in wars. The founding fathers couldn't have had a chance in becoming a world power without slaves. Seeing as everyone else was using them to get a leg on the competitors it was sadly the only way they saw possible. There were slaves here before the colonists as some of the native tribes practiced slavery of their neighbors as well. Literally every known continent had slavery in that time. I'm not saying it was right but I'm tired of people blaming white people for the entirety of slavery. Black Americans are acting like it only happened to them and that is ridiculous man.
RUclips is what MTV should have always been more like. People heard music for generations without ever getting to see the artists perform except for those who appeared on talk shows once in a while. It's great to see live performances of classic music.
I sang this song in middle school with my class for graduation and by chance I am hearing this song again after decades. It brings tears to my eyes as I have truly understood the meaning that comes with this song. Thank you Bill
True musician--no auto tune or fancy gizmos--just great singing and lyrics that go to the heart. It was so great that he walked away, or at least, stepped back from the avaricious music "business" that wrings creativity and spontaneity out of the artist while lining their own pockets. He played whenever and wherever he wanted to, raised his kids, and left us all with his amazing legacy. RIP
My second grade teacher Mrs.Jenkins made us sing this everyday before we started to learn. She then began class with prayer to the creator. She would then say these same words after she got done praying. "You can't teach that which you don't know just like you can't come from somewhere that you've never been.
There is no greater love than a man give his life for his friends. Brothers, whatever your problem is, whatever you're going through, you can lean on Jesus. "Even if I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will trust You." Trust Him. He does not disappoint.

I'm a nice and polite young man so I know I'll succeed I just don't know where to start, just fed up of being lonely.
The righteousness of this song speaks to the incredible talent of Bill Withers. His unassuming and humble demeanor are so inspiring and memorable. We really need to lean on the thought that we are all lifted up by remembering we flourish in understanding and compassion.

Sigh.
Such a narrow view..
@@IXSuperRadGamerXI If you can't feel that in your soul, then you need to check your pulse or you a white supremacist
Great song! Ya never know ❤
we need this energy today
My first favorite song, my school talked about this song singing legend
RUclips is what MTV should have always been more like. People heard music for generations without ever getting to see the artists perform except for those who appeared on talk shows once in a while. It's great to see live performances of classic music.
R.I.P Bill Withers
All Humans are one , together. One of the most positive statements ever made is this song.
Very strong and powerful video and song my peoples are beautiful
my dad showed me this song back in 2009 when i was around 4 and it’s been my favorite song ever since
100 years, 1000 years later, this song will still validate.
I miss him. Classic artist. Inspiring. This was the greatest song written. Ever.
What a beautiful song! We all need to help each other. It's the ONLY WAY we will heal this world!!!!
One of the greatest songs of all time 🙏🏾
Bill loved us all
Happy Independence Day 2020!
Let no one divide us!
Together we are invincible!
United we move mountains!
I sang this song in middle school with my class for graduation and by chance I am hearing this song again after decades. It brings tears to my eyes as I have truly understood the meaning that comes with this song. Thank you Bill
I pray so I like your song a lot I praise every night to help you you forgot your I love you peace,
This is a beautiful song it fills me with happiness when im sad or lonely
We all need someone to lean on
True musician--no auto tune or fancy gizmos--just great singing and lyrics that go to the heart. It was so great that he walked away, or at least, stepped back from the avaricious music "business" that wrings creativity and spontaneity out of the artist while lining their own pockets.
He played whenever and wherever he wanted to, raised his kids, and left us all with his amazing legacy. RIP
Sorry for writing you, just out of curiosity your page come up on my suggested friend lists so I was just wondering if I knew you from somewhere?!!
My second grade teacher Mrs.Jenkins made us sing this everyday before we started to learn. She then began class with prayer to the creator. She would then say these same words after she got done praying. "You can't teach that which you don't know just like you can't come from somewhere that you've never been.
Just a beautiful song by an incredible person.
There is no greater love than a man give his life for his friends. Brothers, whatever your problem is, whatever you're going through, you can lean on Jesus. "Even if I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will trust You." Trust Him. He does not disappoint.
This is one of those sings that you never forget. ✌
Beautiful song we should always be there for friends.
"Y'all wanna sing, it's alright with me." You beautiful man.
Raw and real R.I.P Bill x
We need to hear this more even today
One of my favorite songs, I remember this from my teenage years I’m now 76 yrs old and still my favorite performer. As a young married woman I bought all his plastic records.😂😂
One of the best songs of the 20th century...
Such a simple, beautiful, and relevant message for 2020. Regardless of race, political views, gender, or religion we are all human beings and at times we all need each other to lean on, especially in times like these. RIP Bill Withers, thank you for sharing your love and music for us all to enjoy together!
Hi! I have a good news for you- suffering will end!
God wants people to enjoy life on earth. He created the earth and everything on it because he loves mankind. Soon he will act to provide a better future for people in every land. He will relieve mankind of the causes of suffering. -Read Jeremiah 29:11.
Gives me the chills everytime, I got a good life but as I'm getting older I just want some friends to hang out with.
I'm in my 20s I'm young and got my life ahead of me. I know friends aren't everything but it would be nice.
Real friends not people behind a screen who I get along with.
I'm a nice and polite young man so I know I'll succeed I just don't know where to start, just fed up of being lonely.
I love these live performances. Bill plays that first chord and everyone gets excited
How could 700 plus people give this thumbs down? Did you not listen to the video?

The righteousness of this song speaks to the incredible talent of Bill Withers. His unassuming and humble demeanor are so inspiring and memorable. We really need to lean on the thought that we are all lifted up by remembering we flourish in understanding and compassion.
The fact that we still live like this fucking PISSES ME OFF!
I think of him everytime I play my guitar. Just about every time 💕 even before he passed, he is the beginning of music to me, where my most vivid memory of music at the earliest age begins. His 2 songs played on the radio back then that summer.
Thank of how some of these artists, SANG WITH PASSION , HUMBLENESS & THE REAL TRUTH! KEEP LIFTING ME.
Why the thumbs down? I grew up with this music so Rude we need to come together , now more than ever!!!! 👍🙏🏻😘❤️❤️🌷🥰🙋🏻♀️

He has led me to the light more than once reminded me that humanity is a wonderful necessary part of life.
I Salute you ❤
