It's interesting to actually witness an actual critic watching a film, and I wish the format were more common. As for Triangle, I think it contains more total craftsmanship (acting, shot composition, sound, tone subtlety, transitions etc.) than any film I've ever seen, and I don't know of any other director who could pull it off, even if they wanted to.
I guess I have just seen many far better crafted films, this one felt like a Jacques Tati attempt, but without his whimsy and soul, if that makes any sense!
Re: Being ignored by someone vlogging. I mean, I just wouldn't let it happen. I'd soft-shoe past in the background singing "the trail of the lonesome pine". Which is probably why I don't get invited out a lot.
In agreement about this, despite aspirations, dragging. It was around the pretzel argument I left the cinema a few weeks ago. Like all care, gone. (I think The Menu covered a similar theme strand far more interestingly...) As a recommendation, if you haven't seen it, I'd be interested in your take on a favourite foreign film, My Life as a Dog, (Sweden). I think you'd like it.
@@alexachipman This has been a problem for so long with Award films or what I refer to as Oscar-Bait. You have your dramas (especially about arguing couples, broken families, person going through personal trauma or depression etc), The person of color or race picture, your big epics (particularly of historical events), your bio-pics or based on a true story or book (which I loathe), the underdog picture, the "Tribute to Hollywood or Movies" picture, Just to name a few genres. I want to see genres like horror and comedy receive more Oscar love. Plus it hurts me so much how they write off animation as something just for kids and don't give it the respect it deserves.
@@alexachipman Yeah. Them as well. I mean come on you give the Academy Award for Best Picture to Annie Hall over Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977, And Gandhi over E.T. in 1982 are two of the biggest middle fingers I can think of when it comes to choosing the "Oscar Darling" over the one that actually deserved it.

Do name a few, now I’m curious!

i'm curious to what is your 2022 best movie?
The Menu :)
I'm hoping you react to Everything Everywhere All At Once one day!
I watched it for my job already, sorry! Loved it, the film made my top movies of 2022 list at the newspaper.
So from the sound of it I think you would give it three stars.
5 of 5 for sound design, 1 of 5 for the rest. (I cut out the 2 hours of me suffering lol)

@@jamesmoyner7499 So often scifi/fantasy gets dropped into "best SFX" or "best makeup" and ignored for the other awards :(

@@jamesmoyner7499 Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a masterpiece!
Another futuristic movie from the 70s you might like is Westworld with Yul Brynner.
Quick reminder - if you include minor spoilers with a suggestion, your vote will not be counted.
@@alexachipman ok. Sorry. Then do Casualties Of War.
Have you reacted to The Menu?
No, I reviewed that one for the paper as well, but I saw it in cinemas, so no reaction. In my opinion it was the best film of the year.
