As a West Virginian I’d just like to say thank you for showing the beauty of West Virginia. WV has always been a well known state but often it’s for the cryptids and mountain peeks, not often are the gorgeous animals shown. So again thank you for showing how truly beautiful WV is :)

I've only caught one of these so far. I was fishing with my Dad when I was 10 and spotted a bright-colored fish.
I had one of those old shotgun fishing poles that shot the bobber/lure out.. 😂 I ended up catching the fish after the second cast! That was probably my favorite fishing memory of all time.

There's 3, I think. There's genuine golden trout in California, there's some oddity I'm my home state of Idaho where trout outnumber everything else 5 to 1, and there's these ones. I'm not sure what the Idaho ones are, but they arent related to these ones so far as I know

I’m from that area. It’s great! Every year they do what they call the “gold rush” and release thousands on thousands of those goldies. Gotta love it!

In the winter months here in WV, the DNR does what's called a "gold rush stocking." It is where the golden trout is all they stock in the rivers' streams, and lakes. I have only caught a couple in my lifetime of fishing the waters here, as they seem to be more elusive than the standard rainbow trout.
Fun fact: Fish don't have any nerves in their mouths and a fishing hook doesn't actually hurt the fish.

What I said is that they have few nerve receptors in their mouth meaning that they don't feel much pain if their mouth is penetrated with a fishing hook.
Hook and line fishing is an excellent way to catch and research fish species. It is a much more ethical way compared to other forms of fishing. With proper fish handling such as not removing the fish from the water and using barbless hooks it has been proven that the fish remain unharmed and some fish have even been recorded to have been caught and released several times in their lifetime. Fish cannot process pain the way that humans of mammals do, no paper shows with 100% certainty that fishes have a developed enough neurological system as we do.
@@Coastalfishes Thank you! As a sport fisherman, I completely agree. I take all precautions to keep the fish safe and out of any harm's way. I do use barbless hooks and have a specialized rubber-coated landing net. If you also happen to be an angler then I wish you tight lines!

I let a goldfish out in a pond near my childhood home in WV when I was young and it still to this day swims there. Now that I’ve seen this video I’m thinking it may have been a golden trout I’ve been seeing but I’d still like to believe it’s Goldy.
Wow I can not stress to you enough how bad of a decision that was I have seen feral goldfish take over entire lakes as they can get giant and eat anything so if you have a pet you can not take care of anymore don't release it that's how things like the Florida python invasion happen

Yea to think back it was cruel because even if I didn’t know it could destroy the ecosystem of the pond it wasn’t good for it because we have pretty cold winters.. I doubt the fish survived very long honestly. Now that I’m older I would never release any pet or domesticated animal into the wild.. I know it’s not good for them and now I know it’s not good for the wild.

In my state we call those palomino trout. It's basically the same thing. Looks like a golden rainbow trout. Beautiful fish.
You are right but they are not the same thing palominos are native to the East Coast golden trout are native to the West Coast
No trout are tech native to the east...they were introduced way way back in like the 60s...we have steelhead here in NY as well but they were introduced here from thr west and instead of the steelhead going from the ocean to the rivers to spawn the steelies here go from lake ontario to the streams and creeks that lead into ontario to spawn....pretty much how coyote explains it with the goldens here

Please do some research on the golden trout of California. Also read about the effects of invasive trout outside of their native range. There are several other trout species out there that are much more magnificent than this banana. Apache trout, Gila trout, the cutthroat trout and all its subspecies. Even subspecies of rainbow trout that have their isolated and unique genetics ruined by farm fish.

@@StewForTheGospel you right. I may have caught a golden trout or a sub species in a secluded lake in the rockies but I can’t determine it without a doubt. I will say that fishing for trout out of an aquarium pond is hilarious. Cutt-bow have become a problem but ironically enough they won’t breed with other migrating strains like Kamloops and Steelhead.
Luckily when I worked at a pet store in Virginia a regular customer was the guy that drove the truck to stock the local rivers with trout, and he showed me the Golden Trout for the first time. It is amazing to see one in person. Would love to catch one and would love to see how it tastes. Great video keep them coming!

All three, Rainbow Trout, Palomino Trout and Golden Trout are the same species (Oncorhynchus mykiss). However, the Golden Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss aguabonita) a distinct subspecies native to the Kern River, CA.
Technically the Brook Trout isn’t a trout it’s a Char, part of the Char family
Nope, brook trout are definitely trout. There is no 'char family' but brook trout do belong to the genus of char, Salvelinus, which is part of the family of trout and salmon (Salmonidae). Brook trout are just part of another genus of trout, and "Char" is just a meaningless name attached to it.
To put it in perspective, genetic studies show that rainbow trout are much more closely related to the char than they are to brown trout.
Really there aren’t any trout species if you want to be technical. The west coast “trout” are all pacific salmon, the chars are well... char and browns and Atlantic’s are both Atlantic salmon. They’re all salmonids at the end of the day, what the common name is doesn’t really matter

Coyote, I’m from around that area and I actually used to live very close to Smoke Hole. My father and I would wake up super early and go down that river right beside the resort and catch trout all the time!!!

Actually there is a natural trout called the golden trout that is the true golden trout that is rare and native to only california.
This was also... from California. He mentioned that twice in his story. >_> It's still "natural,' I don't understand why people are saying it's not.
They're natural, just different colors bc of selective breeding. Some just bred and made that color (it's a natural mutation) and happened to keep on breeding. Yes humans still breed them for color, but originally they're natural, I do believe. Sorry if I'm wrong.

@@hillaryjones1406 palomino trout are artificial, they aren’t wild at all. They’re bred in a hatchery to look cool, but as a consequence have terrible genetics and are the equivalent of a pug in actual genetic viability

This was awesome to watch! I caught two of them here in PA this year. Very great experience considering most guys don’t even one in their lifetimes.
Correction. The DNR of most north/eastern states (PA, MD, VA, DE, NJ, and etc) all stock golden rainbow in creeks/streams/rivers. So they can be found everywhere, but rare compared to rainbow/brown/tiger and etc.
