Oh that trip brings back memories! My honeymoon in 1991 was a trip from the Peak Forest canal to Goring lock on the Thames, including 3 days on the visitors' moorings in Oxford, which meant memorably reversing all the way down the Oxford branch from Isis lock.
Jeepers Tim the reversing manoeuvre sounds horrendously difficult. I know Border Reiver tends to do just what she likes in reverse! We are glad that our vlog brought back happy memories for you. It’s a lovely part of England and we can’t wait to get back onto the River Thames which is where we are making our way to now. Regarding the parking. Send copies of your receipts, there may be times on the receipts which may prove you were spending money for more than three hours. They have to prove a loss ie by your parking there for over three hours, did you prevent anyone else from parking. I did just this and the fine was waived.

The owners of these 'shopping centres' subcontract parking enforcement to various 'parking enforcement businesses'. Paying by card inconvenienced me and my Bank when the transaction went to a Spanish Bank! I doubt these ridiculous charges, *not fines*, are legally enforceable but these parking enforcement companies employ lawyers to frighten you into paying. Typically, they will bring the case in a Court far distant from your home address resulting in your costs far exceeding the payment. My response is to write to all the traders on that site advising them that I will never do business with them again and I will advise all my family, friends and viewers to do the same.

Good Nz morning folks. I've just discovered your channel and like what I see. So have subscribed. I've been subbed to other canal sites, however I've found that your VO is so much more interesting to listen to. Love your video presentation too. Back in 2008 a couple of family members and I, rented a Narrow boat for a week, and finished up in Llangollen village. Loved that location. Only negative during the whole week, was the fact that, being a friendly kiwi, I'd be calling out to people going the opposite way, and greeting them with hullo and/or g'day. Sadly no response. However apart from those incidents, the rest of our experience was fantastic. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for taking the time to upload. Until next time, all the best.

YT recommended your channel. I'm glad they did. This the first of your vlogs I watched. Jackie, the mosquito spray used TWICE instead of dry shampoo hooked me into subscribing straightaway! Why? Because that bit was real and honest. As was keeping the 'hic-cup' audio in the vlog. You see, it is that sort of real-life goings-on that viewers and now subscriber like me think interesting and gladly give'm thumb-up likes. By the way, I welcome and appreciate your limited use of (appropriate) music under the video. And, most importantly, that the chosen music is spot-on in both its mood eliciting AND down-tempo for the video sequence. When in doubt about what or whether to use background music default to natural, ambient sounds only. No energetic, up-tempo music ever, please. A NB is not a floating disco or alternative radio station. Frankly, most newbie NB vloggers are enamored and distracted by being 'on film'. They don't understand that their highly subjective, bad taste in music used is off-putting and causes dissonance, dissuades visitors from subscribing and subscribers from staying so... and are given deserved dislikes. Their vlogs are made terrible because each is wholly incongruent with the very slow, relaxed pace of narrowboating. In my not-so-humble opinion as a NB fan subscribed to too many (and mostly mediocre) NB channels, a top key to growing such a channel is Sergio Leone realism - showing the good, bad and ugly of your cruising AND other day-trip walkabouts like you did in Oxford. (Pls do not sanitize your vlogs of such captivating and interesting stuff.) One more preachy prescription - we subs are basically people watchers... vicarious voyeurs of you and your boating experiences. Content that meets such viewers interest first and foremost and relegates production values to secondary importance, even irrelevance are the best. In short, and to sum up, stive to show, share and keep things real, even raw, entertaining and informative as you go and you've a winning channel! Now, to binge watch your other videos.... Cheers!
Wow! Sebastian what an observation! Jackie and I would like firstly to thank you so much for your honest, enlightening and positive feedback. Yes, I noticed that. It is a Seamaster 30 and in good nick possibly worth £15,000 or so I suspect. Wonder what happens to them. Perhaps the Thames authorities take them in, auction them off and buy bacon sandwiches for the lock keepers 😆
Recently subscribed to your channel and find it a great watch and look forward to each new vlog. Just watching this from 8 months ago and noticed that you were wearing a “Saunton Sands” Devon t shirt during your hair disaster episode. Is this an area you know, as we live fairly nearby.

Point of order : back in 1974 my dad and i " found " a sunken boat near Nuneaton, in doing our boat was damaged , not serious but we did consider changing our boats name to " titanic to "
Hi Ivan. Jeepers, damaging your boat on a sunken one sounds bad! I guess it’s easy to do as you never know how much of it lurks beneath! Titanic 2 has a ring to it though! Thanks for your comment. Hope you enjoy our channel and travels.
Hi Jim. Yes we knew who the purple boat was at the time and we went to moor in front of them as it seemed like a decent spot and it was very windy so we were looking to moor asap. Without putting the bathroom light on, I once cleaned my teeth with Savlon. I didn't realise until I had finished, just thought it was my grand daughters toothpaste!!!

Just don’t pay it. There is nothing they can do legally. They cannot use any force to remove property. It will cost them a fortune in court fees. Just say no.
Hi Cap. Yes it sounds a bit excessive to charge that much to put a canoe in the canals especially as I guess you wouldn’t use the locks etc. Thanks for watching and we hope you are enjoying our channel and our adventures.
A pittance for the use of 2000 miles of maintained waterways, when you consider that some of the other users are paying upwards of £1000 a year for the same waterways. Truth is we're all getting it too cheap, which is why the system keeps breaking down.
Just watched the first 2 videos and thought they were pretty good. Though when editing future videos can you pay attention to volume. The spoken sections are a little quiet so when adjusting volume to hear it properly the music then comes on and blasts out my eardrums.
Hi Martyn. Yes I does sound a bit daft to have a time limit on a car park like that. They are not exactly encouraging shoppers! Hey ho, I guess it’s the way of things nowadays. Thanks for your comment. Hopefully you are enjoying our channel.

Thanks for dropping us a message. It was a tricky on in some of our earlier videos, like this one, we were just learning how to use the software. It's a good job Jac is technical as there is so much to learn. Hope you get chance to watch some of our other waterways adventures.
that boat behind the sunken one looks like it could end up the same way. Uncared for and not used for ages....
Yes it was certainly on its way to the bottom of the Thames.. very sad!
Hi Clive.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
Sadly we have to report that Jaq bought the shirt at a regular high street shop and not in lovely Devon, a county we love. She still had the shirt so you might see it pop up on another one of our vlogs. We post a new video every Wednesday. Hopefully you get time to catch up on all our other episodes.
Take care Clive. Welcome onboard!
👍❤️
Another great video... did you get your parking fine paid in the end 😆.... shame about the sunken boat , the one behind looked in a sorry state aswell . Yeah l'm still catching up
Hi Jerry.
Yep.. we paid the fine!
We thought the same about the boat behind the sunken boat in that it almost looked like sinking too!
Reminds me of a man with silver hair in church. He came one Sunday with orange hair and had picked his wife's hair dye by mistake!
Hi.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
We are glad you liked the episode.
Take care. 👍❤️
Have had loads of parking charge notices and have never paid one ..totally ignore any snotty threatening letters they send to your home .can you imagine the courts full of these parasites? These are businesses with no more power than a lollypop lady !
Hi. Thanks for your comment. Your right, the power is not there but lots of people are worried and pay up.
Hope your enjoying our channel and thanks for watching. Lots more adventures coming up! Oh, and a few mishaps! 👍
"The cooking of roast dinners..." sign floored me...I'm in California USA, so I've got NO CLUE what the "Do's" and "Don'ts's" are in narrow-boating, but WHY the hate for Roast dinners and B,E & Sausage sandwiches...? They're all delicious BTW (IMHO).
Love your comment, we love a cheeky roast dinner on a Sunday with lots of yummy onion gravy!! Thanks for dropping us a message all the way from California. x
Was that purple boat cruising alba
Good spot Lewis! It was indeed. We tried to moor in front of them, thankfully Myles told us it was very shallow so we pushed on.
Alba is our fave channel!
first of all I think you guys are very cool and secondly I wanted to ask you where that is where those motor boats are lying maybe I can do something to get them back to the surface and get them out of there and you help me let it laws please I hope so
Hi Gert -jan

The sunken boat is on the river Thames near Abingdon
We do not know the owner but the UK environment agency may have tut owners details. 👍👍
@@cruisingontheborder no problem thank you
Great vlog. Where did you magic a car from?
Hi.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
We just said ‘Shazam’ and there it was! 👍❤️🤣
You no who Purple boat is at 19.40
Hi Jim.
Yes we knew who the purple boat was at the time and we went to moor in front of them as it seemed like a decent spot and it was very windy so we were looking to moor asap. Thankfully as we got near Myles told us it was very shallow so we pushed on. Thank you Myles.
Cruising Alba is our fave channel.
Thanks for watching our channel and hopefully you enjoy all the adventures and laughs that are coming up.
Without putting the bathroom light on, I once cleaned my teeth with Savlon. I didn't realise until I had finished, just thought it was my grand daughters toothpaste!!!
Hi Geoff
That sounds like a fun thing to do.. putting Savlon on your teeth! 😄 I guess it looks the same.
Jaq says she’ll give that one a go. Might match her bug spray hair!
Thanks for your comment and hope your enjoying the channel. Please subscribe so you will be the first to know when a new video is up every week.
Canal & River Trust a Quango of the United Nations?
Hi. You might just be right my friend! They have been called many things over the years.. not all of which were favourable!
I guess they try their best?
Thanks for watching and for your comment. Please stay tuned and subscribe to keep up with our ongoing adventures. We are on our way back to the mighty River Thames.
Last time I was on a canal boat I was nearly killed by some ding dong throwing a big magnet about ,it's getting to dangerous to just go cruising 😳
Hi Shaun. Jeepers! That sounds like a dangerous thing to do, throwing magnets is not the most sensible thing to do. Hopefully you were ok?
It does help to clear the bikes and trolleys out of the cut and stop them damaging your rudder and prop.
Though you do need an iota of sense to magnet fish ..clearly your numbty didnt have an iota to spare.😂😉
👍🏻
Thank you redzed40. 😄
Ps
I used to do my courting at Wittenham clumps brings back a few memories
Oo errr Malcolm!!! Happy days!!
👍❤️
Interesting I lived in dorchester nj usa a small town went to dorchester Dorset uk even got the application for employment at the prison. 29 yes n j. Corrections dorchester must be small town on the thames yours truly Evans w Robinson
Hi Linda. How interesting.. life might have been very interesting working in a corrections centre or prison as they are called here. Wonder if your glad you didn’t work in a British prison..
ps.. we have some really good footage of a high society wedding in Dorchester on Thames but as it’s a ‘celebrity’ we are unsure about using it.. but hey.. we might just do it!
We hope you are enjoying our channel.
Thanks for your comment.. keep watching xx
Dorchester in Dorset is nowhere near the river Thames
Just don’t pay it. There is nothing they can do legally. They cannot use any force to remove property. It will cost them a fortune in court fees. Just say no.
Hi Gertrude.
Yes you make a good point!
You know I was going to buy a canoe and go canoeing. I've give up the idea as I've found out you now have to buy a bloody licence at about £45 a year.
Thanks for the feedback 👍
LoL 😆
Hi Gary.
Thanks for your comment. Hope you liked the episode. 👍
crooks
Thanks Mick.
I find it stupid that you can spend 3 or 4 hours shopping and you can get accused of staying too long...
Hi Martyn.
Yes I does sound a bit daft to have a time limit on a car park like that. They are not exactly encouraging shoppers!
Hey ho, I guess it’s the way of things nowadays.
Thanks for your comment.
Hopefully you are enjoying our channel.
@@cruisingontheborder Just joined you on your travels. My wife got a ticket for parking in a Costa car park. She was inside catching up with an old school friend. We ignored the letters and still haven't paid it. Have fun on your travels. Well jealous..lol
Fat chance you getting them reducing your parking charges
Hi Danny.
Welcome to our channel As it turns out, your right about the parking charges!
Still, we guess it was our fault so must be more observant next time.
Hopefully you enjoy watching our channel.
