I’ve a pretty comprehensive set of Nikkor vintage lenses from 20mm to 300mm. I have the 28mm f3.5. THE 28 to have is the f2.8 AIS, but it’s going price is typically £180 or more. I love Nikkor lenses. As you’ve said, they all exude quality, both optically and mechanically. The other key benefit of them is they are easy to disassemble and repair/clean. A big 👍 from me for Nikkors!
I am sure glad I don't own a 28f2.8 ais. it's the worst performing lens I have seen from Nikon especially when it comes to the way I shoot.. I shoot alot into the sun and boy o boy that lens at the slightest sign of light into the lens suffers from chronic flare, ghosting and constrast issues.. The moral of the story is Never follow what people say without doing your own test and research.. the 28f2.8 is only optically better than the rest for close ups other than that, it has nothing else to offer plus, it's less durable than the others cuz the CRC is suspetible to getting sandy at the beach..
I bought this exact lens new in 1978. Superb. It is my standard lens. I simultaneously bought the 105mm f2.5 with a Nikon FE. These two lenses cover almost everything for me, although I have five or six ai and ais Nikkors from the same era, from 20mm through to 80-200mm f4.5. Yes, I am lucky.
Such a great passionate review, I truly respect and love detailed reviews and nothing better than showing sample photos which are very beautiful. I used this lens with the Nikon D5000, but hands down it's so much better on the Z6. This is indeed a great lens that I carry with me all of the time. It's also amazing with black and white photos. Amazing review my friend, you have a new follow for sure
With this lens, you need the AIS version which had updated optics. It has the reputation of being a marked improvement over the earlier versions which had different optics. I have not owned the earlier versions so cannot comment personally but I did own the AIS version and it was excellent.
Yeah, sometimes you find that one set of lenses that is just perfect for you! I've enjoyed using this Nikkor and I was positively surprised by its quality, but here in Italy they are easily twice as expensive than Canon FDs and hard to find...
Love Nikkor lenses. Have an early 28 3.5, would definitely like to aquire a 28 2.8 ai just a little to $$ for a focal length I don't use a lot. Looking forward to the 50 1.4 video, that lens is a love it or hate it.
I was lucky and got the 28 and the 50 for around 40€ a piece. I'm working on the review of the 50, but I haven't formed an opinion, yet. For now I can say that I wasn't expecting that much of a difference between a 1.8 and a 1.4, especially because I've been shooting with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 for years.
Very nice video again, Marco! I don't have a Nikkor 28mm myself, looks good, is it on pair with the Canon equivalents? My favourite Nikon lenses is the 50mm 1.4 you're about to test, and the 35mm 2.0.
The Nikon D7200 is crop sensor F mount camera which has no problem with AI, or the newer AI-s lenses. The lenses you don't want to mount are the PRE-AI lenses, or the ones made before the AI lenses.
hey i got the lens too, paired with my fm2n fg and f90. good lens. but i plan on ditching both with milvus 35/2 for compact all rounder lens. i already got milvus 50 (i got mint secondhand for 450 bucks)

Yeah, they get pricey fast!
I was expecting them to be a little overrated, but they do hold up to their fame!
i got the 28mm f2.8 AI in a pack together with a 50mm f2 AI and a nikon fm
Does the Ai lens work well?

The lens nails the landscape so crisp, from my trip to a citadel city
It is indeed quite sharp!

Lucky indeed! 😁

I'll keep that in mind 😉
My main set of lenses for shooting video are Nikon AI-S primes... I feel that they have the right amount of character.
Yeah, sometimes you find that one set of lenses that is just perfect for you!

@@MarcoAries True... they can get a little pricey. (and sometimes the newer AF-D versions are cheaper)
I've been wanting one of these, for a while now. Although preferrably the f2.
28mm f2 sounds pretty sexy!
Short and sweet - look forward to the 50mm review!
It's coming... sooner or later 😅
Those are some nice pictures.. love them.. I was waiting for an image with sunstars... how does this lens render sunstar?
Honestly I don't know, I never do sunstars

@@MarcoAries nice, 40£ was a steel for the 28
Looks like a decent lens, similar to my Mir-10A 28mm f/3.5 but perhaps with a bit more CA. And lighter/less bulky of course.
Comparing Soviet and Japanese lenses is always interesting, you can see al the differences in design and construction!

I'm working on a comparison between the Nikkor and the Canon FD, I'm expecting them to be on the same level!
Great video as always Marko.. If you ever come to Serbia.. Let me know...
👍🏻😉
Thanks for this great video. I just want to ask if AI lenses are compatible with nikon d7200?
Thanks for the support. I don't use Nikon cameras, so I can't say for sure, but they should be compatible.
@@MarcoAries because other says that it can damage the camera. By the way thank you. Keep making informative videos like this.
I've heard that it might happen, yes, but I don't know which cameras and lenses cause that, there should be a compatibility chart somewhere.

I had an 85mm F1.8. Was really neat.
80/85 are ridiculously hard to find, of any brand... The only one I had was a medium format CZJ 🤣
Great video and great lens. I have one.

milvus 50 too large and too heavy for my fm2n and fg
Ah, that's an unexpected pairing, but if it works for you, all the better!
@@MarcoAries yes work fine but not ergonomically suited at all
Yeah, I can imagine! 😁
Looks pretty good to me.
It does!
Molto Bene, a fine review. Bravo.
Thanks
I'd both AIS 28/2.8 & AI 28/2.8. AIS is better in short distance and AI is better in far end. :)
Thanks for sharing!
Is this optically the same as the Nikkor 28mm f2.8 AF?
I don't know, sorry.
No, is not the same optical formula as the AF-D version.
No, the later plastic lenses look and feel horrible but are optically superior.
how much price for that lens now?
Hard to say, it varies a lot based on where you are in the world. Here they go for anywhere in between 50 and 120 euros...
@@MarcoAries is that price for used lens or new lens?
This lens has been out if production for decades, there are no new ones
Leica R ~ Contax >> Konica >> etc >> Nikkor last on the list imho :D both in quality and aesthetically. Thanks for sharing
That's one of the cool things if vintage lenses, there's a set to everyone's taste!
