1/72 Arma Hobby Ki-84 Hayate - Painting - Part III

This is the final video for this Ki-84 project. No base this time, at least for now. I tried a different approach for painting this kit, using pre wash instead of post. There are some advantagens using this method:
- you can check for irregularities or discontinuities in panel lines and fix it prior to painting;
- the panel lines and rivets get a much more subtle appearence compared to post wash.
- using thin paint layers you can better control the effects you want to give;
- easy to chip
The disavantages are:
- you may spend more time preparing the effects on the underneath layers;
- you have to control and be patiente while appling the main colors to not kill the previous effects;
- repairing might be complicated, as you don't want to loose the already done effects;
- thin paint layers tend to look lighter compared to a heavy coat, so you may need to used darker tons;
- a heavy protective varnish coat is necessary before starting the main colors.
Well, I hope I could present you something new for painting your models, an alternative to more comum methods. There is a lot room for improvements yet, as this is the first time using it. But I think it has some potential.
PS: I used Tamiya Acrylics (which are the ones I have in my stash…), mainly matte ones. Not sure how it works with other brands and types.

Thanks @armouredsprue4897! Hope to see this in your models soon! There are many things projects on my head right now. I might finish my A6M3 zero that I started long ago, or some 1/700 diorama. But a have two major projects that I want to complete this year... at least one of them I'll, but they will take a lot of time to complete... In the meanwhile I'll problaby show some minor or less complex models. Cheers!
