- Southern California has seen three-quarters of a year's worth of rain since Sunday. There have been hundreds of mudslides, which have swept away homes and businesses. CBS News correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti is in Los Angeles with the latest.

California is great when sunny but a nightmare with rain, floods, mud slides, fires, earthquakes.
Best state in the union 💙
most modern buildings in ca can withstand earthquakes pretty well, and it is something you get used to. The rest of those, yep they’re pretty annoying
Building mansions in canyons
What could possibly go wrong
Stay safe, California neighbor!
That’s why insurance company’s are opting out of CA
Home owners insurance does not cover any damage from mudslides or landslides. Most of the pictures in this area show mud/rock slides and not landslides. Landslides are the movement of the clay over bedrock at great depth. As I said, most of the footage is of mud and rock washing down off very steep cliffs and if it is enough rock and dirt, it does push the house.
My prayers are with the Californians who've lost loved ones and property. On another note, I don't know why news stations allow reporters to risk their own safety just to stand in the middle of a catastrophe. Was the ground even stable at the time of this report? I was worried that mud would start to slide while Jonathan Vigliotti was standing there.
Prayers for everyone in California.
I hope everyone is staying safe and that the rich and famous In L.A are paying for the damage to people's properties to be repaired
Poor people and poor pets😢😢😢
Keep in mind regular homeowners insurance does not cover mudslides. They got to have Flood Insurance and if they didn’t, well, even my stomach aches for them.
And mortgages.
The winter of 82 was way worse, it rained for 6 weeks straight, and they had to dig trenches for ski lifts. Check out the 1982 mudslides in Love Creek,Ben Lomond after 14 inches of rain in one night
I was looking to buy a house in that area several years ago. Every place I looked at the owners would say, "Our house got little damage during the floods and the earthquake" (89) I bet one could go for a long time before any help to come along. Maybe days. But it is a beautiful area
Love creek was never supposed to be zoned for residences, they knew the if Loch Lomond reservoir on the other side of the ridge ever overloaded that the water would get squeezed through sedentary layers of the rock right into Love Creek@@KittyCarlile-490
So. This is now 2024!
@@KittyCarlile-490liar. Lonely? No one to talk to?
@@MrBadassc8 no kind of busy helping my bf here in LA clean up after the storm. ... Obviously you didn't live in the bay area in 89 or now.. Are you looking for someone to talk to? Bc if you are it sure as hell ain't me
Sending prayers for the families of these victims who have lost their homes ❤😮
The “Pineapple Express” has been coming to California for generations always sad to see the damage and mudslides which can occur anywhere due to type of soil and saturation. Always thankful no loss of life
I was crying on Friday, Saturday and Sunday! No wonder why!!!!❤❤❤😢😢😢❤❤❤ I don't live there anymore, thank goodness! God Bless All of U down there!
This happens every year from December to February. Wishing the best for us all.
It rains every year, but not every year damages so many buildings and roads.
It most certainly does not! There was rain last year but I’ve lived here for 22 years and for many of them, almost no rain. Hence the drought.
Prayers for safety.
Are the celebrities ok? I am very concerned.
🤣
How's your mom?
@@Brainbaskit better than yours.
😂
Is Oprah ok? LOL
Wow, that guy was so calm despite almost getting killed
that dudes house is legit total loss, no insurance covers that.
Trust me they WILL NOT cover it
The fact that he is smiling suggests he is a renter and not an owner. He is lucky to be alive so very happy for him.
how much water is being collected??
Very little, LA River goes to the ocean.
This wild that guy said he doesnt even know how he alive
By the Grace of God 🙏
But they’ll still say we’re in a drought come Summer
Who is "they"?
@@07Flash11MRC the government 😡
And the insurance is not going to cover the damage
God be with families and losses ,pets. Rebuild recovery i liked California when visited
I grew up in Southern California. I have seen many times on the news where a muslide happens and people are killed in their sleep. Do not live at the bottom of or on top of a mountain.
I think a mud slide is better than getting hit by a sewage slide. 8 million gallons of raw sewage ☠️
Sending prayers
I was just there right before the storms started rolling in 😢
Mother Nature cleaning house
It's always Eucalyptus trees! They're so drought tolerant that the became a staple of SoCal, but their shallow root systems make them prone to toppling over in high winds and following heavy rains.
Mortgages continue, even after a total loss. 😖😖😖
Wonder if oprahs house was damaged 😂
So glad I live in the BORING FLATLANDS
Hope everyone's ready for their insurance rates to go up thanks to these individuals who chose to live in these areas.
😮 oh my God
Damn, and I was just about to call my real estate and ask about flood insurance, too! 😢
I am praying for everyone affected by this. It's horrifying times we're living in. I wonder what our government will do about it?
This is what happens when they don’t do ANY repairs for decades.
Holy cow, if you don't have anything intelligent to say you should try not saying anything. That might help you a lot
Repair what? The hillsides?
@@user-ke9yk5qp3u I live here and the roads through the canyons are TERRIBLE. They haven’t done roadwork through many of the canyons for decades. Also the homes up there cost a lot to upkeep and people do not continue maintenance on their homes due to the cost right now. It’s unfortunate but true and no I’m very intelligent, thank you
@@taliaasims I live in Topanga on Canon Drive and I love the roads the way they are. It's just fine up here
@@user-ke9yk5qp3u yeah ok, and just down the road from you in Encino of ave San Louis, there’s alot of old roads and older homes. All through Coldwater / Benedict cyn as well like I don’t understand why it’s a battle. Ca should spend more money repairing roads, potholes, freeways. You’re literally fighting something that could be improved…that’s all I’m saying. We spend enough in taxes to live here and they don’t do sh*t.
California, the only state where you have to have collision insurance for your house... 🤪
"Won't happen to me" Californians say 🤔
Give the dude an umbrella.
Awww, that's a shame.😅
That is what happens when u target a state year after year with wild fires. All going according to plan

The eucalyptus trees are very crunchy .
Would never want to live there!
werent they complaining about a water shortage a little while back?
Cali appears to be doomed to fall of the map it’s almost uncanny

You idiots have been saying that every year since I was 5.. I’m 37 now.

All that water mixed with all that blue street poop. XD
Cesspoolfornia indeed.
Only teenagers and people not from California say “Cali”.
Seeing as you’re using cliche rhetoric about “Cali” falling off the map…I’d guess you’re both.
THE END IS NEAR OF THIS WORLD GUY 😢😢😢
Some ppl were surfing. I guess it depends on the person if you like the rain or not.
that photo of Moreno valley was a total waste and nothing more than normal!
So much for the drought
you build on a hill slide, what did you expect would happen
Had no idea ..... really? Im in Mexico and knew about it for days prior😂😂😂
Does this include tents ? People are living in tents too!
😢😢😢
Wi nou dakò avèk ou.
Dude the cry they have no water 💦 now they cry about now they got too much rain!! I prefer it to be rain over earthquake any day!!! I was in the Northridge earthquake back in the days !!!
That is a huge tree
OMG
🔥
If the US would invest more money into climate adaptive landscape architecture this could have been prevented. There are a lot of green/ blue infrastructure strategies to retain water and release it slowly after such a storm… but America loves 10 lane high ways and paving their entire driveways shut … extreme weather events like this are just gonna happen more frequently in the near future
Don’t forget clearing hillsides and grading pads for more houses, swimming pools, and roads. Those brush and tree roots are what used to hold the soil in place. Bring in a developer and watch for the next mudslide. “But, but, but…there’s money to be made and taxes to collect.”
@@MEdGrant Don't build a house into the side of a hill.
Put a note on the house saying "CONDEMED"...😄😄😄😄😄😄
