Wow. Going back and watching this is incredible. Aris is so Type A here. You can tell how badly he wants to make a good impression and get people to like this game that he cares so much about. It's night and day from how he is now: so relaxed and totally apathetic to what people think of him (if they're dickheads of course, he's pretty nice to people who are nice to him).

It's impressive is how complex the nuances in the systems are while also being barely noticeable to the average player.
Similarly impressive is this being a raw from-memory tutorial.
Fantastic work. I'll be looking forward to more of your SCII coverage.

Great video! This was the peak of the series and it's never been quite the same since.
I didn't even know half of these mechanics existed back in the day, but now that I do it just deepens the game for me.
Easy to pick up: hard to master. Win win

Learning all of the things in the video, it's going to feel like a completely new game when I play it again for the first time in over four years.

Amazing tutorial! Soul Calibur 2 was my first and the rest is history. I haven't played SC2 in years. I had no idea that it was so in-dept. When I play fighting games, I usually just play for fun, I don't really care for frame data and all the other stuff. But I hope a lot people buy this, since everyone claims SC2 is the best Soul Caliber in all the series. I personally love them all. At least people can't complain about the original characters being swapped out. Well, technically they're back.

Da bes game! Thanks for making this, it's a pretty great refresher.
Some stuff I noticed, sorry if anyone else already mentioned it:
Soul Charge is actually done with A+B+K, not A+B+G.
Step Guard doesn't block lows, so lows that cover sidestepping like Mitsu 2K can beat it.
On air control I don't think it was mentioned that holding G lets you fly further than normal.
Important to note that G+7_8_9 has some startup to get off the ground, but jumping attacks, i.e. 8B, are airborn from frame 1.

The values I created there were based on the hit duration value, in which As will have active frame earlier than their expected impact (to make them true horizontals). So if the A is blocked on its earliest active frames, then it won't be as positive as if it was blocked on its latest. Anyway, most characters with good As would be +1~2 in most cases. Of course, Ivy, Voldo and other characters with odd As would not; however, they would still be near plus.

(cont) Jump attacks done off the ground are also airborn from frame 1.

Something about StepG, it will fail to all lows that track since you can't StepG into a low block. Also, almost all single As give +1~2 on block, so someone StepGing will be prone to block into disadvantage - this is different than every SC after in which As did not give a plus on block.

At the beginning of this video, Aris talks about Soul Calibur VI being the current game up to date in the franchise, and this video was noted to be published in 2013; yet SCVI doesn't come out until five years later in October 2018. What is this sorcery? Or am I missing something?

I like SC 1 and V the most (love the fighting in V but hate the crap character selection and lacking one player mode). Anyway any Soul Calibur is good for me its probably my favourite fighting series and I will be picking up 2 HD and most likely Lost Swords (I hope its a main entry).
