It was my dream... Now i have one bought second hand (maybe third) at low price (500 €) and i'm very happy to use it on my ow old D800E that i'm still very happy to use. I used it for architecture photography, real estate one, paysages and it is just the first week use. I can not realize the dream become a real fact. This lens is amazing, it is really a special lens at this wide angle... no curve ! Rock n' Roll all day long since then !
I got the 24-70 f/2.8 and immediately fell in love with it, so now I just got this 14-24 f/2.8 and your review assured me I will get lots of great pictures with it!
I use the lens in such a way to avoid its limitations in the corners. I use the 1.2 crop on the D850 which essentially crops out the corners while still giving me 36 megapixels which is enough for what I shoot. Even though I could crop in post, I find I prefer visualizing the picture in camera. So 14mm becomes 16.8mm. 20mm is 24mm. Of course in situations when I absolutely need that full 14mm view, and corner sharpness is not an issue, I can always switch back to full frame mode.
great review and excellent photos at the end. Ive just had the great fortune to buy one for around 575 dollars in mint condition. Greetings from Spain my friend
Yep...I own a real estate photography company in MN and I own 2 of these lenses. Fantastic ....outstanding in this application. With video however, I am contemplating a 14-30 Z for shooting video with my Z6.
Yes that cap. hehe This lens is a gem. Yes the Z 14-24 is awesome for mirrorless. but if you use DSLR, this lens is the way to go for wide zoom. Used deals to be had to right now. For example. this lens sold new for 2200 when released. Now I see them all day for 7-800 used.
Very nice review of the Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. It look very good and the image it makes is really good for the price of the lens. Great video Vahagn.
Thank you William. I've had this lens since the D3 was released. All these years with this lens never gave me an issue. Like you said, Bad ass piece of glass.
Thank you Mobile.. this lens does a super fine job with the lines. Its actually known for that, this is why the 14-24 is so sought after by many and is why you see canon users change mounts to mount on the canons.
Thank you for such a thorough review. I plan to use this lens for astrophotography and maybe real estate photography. Your breakdown of the 14-24mm lens confirmed my thoughts on purchasing it. I recently bought a used 14-24mm lens and it was a little banged up so I returned it. It did take some really nice shots but I just didn't trust that it would perform at an optimum level based on the wear noticed on the lens body. Overall, I bought a new 14-24mm and I look forward to shooting with it. Thanks again!
Thanks for the 2021 review. I'm glad someone did a review many years after the lense was introduced. It helped me make up my mind to get one. Also, I'm like you. If I wanted to video something, I'd get a video camera. Nikon makes a fantastic camera, not a video camera. I tried it once on my D850 and it sucks. Like you said, that constant hunting for focus drove me nuts also. Great video. Thanks.
Excellent video. Good information and perspective. Though I have a Z6, I originally considered this lens. After a lot of consideration, I concluded (in the long run) it was best to get one of the Z wide angle zooms.
Works also great on a D500. The wide end goes only to 14mm which translates to 21mm fullframe equivalent. But who cares. It slayers most of all wide angle apsc lenses.
Yes it is. Great lens. You can get away with using it MF B Roll , delivers good results but you would need peaking, some cameras don't have peaking when capturing 4k. :(
I have a few z lenses, like 2,8 24-70, 2,8 mc105, the 24-200 and a 2,8 11 ttartisan fisheye, but i kept the 2,8 14-24 fmount for interiors, it is to special to sell it i think
Hi Vahagn: Just found this review. I tried this lens and liked it. However, I opted to buy the Tamron 15-30 f2.8 G2 instead of this lens. Merry Christmas 2023. Paul Connors
Hi buddy, thank you so much for your great video. I bought the lens 😂. Now I’m kind of lost to see how can I or where I can buy polarized tilter for this Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED . Do you have a filter too ?
Thank you iran. Appreciate it. Glad you enjoy the videos. For this lens they make a LEE filter system. Its a bit pricey but still worth it. Are you fully DSLR or are you mirrorless. If you use mirrorless I suggest taking a look at the 14-30 Z. that has 82mm filter size in front you can adapt.
@@Vahagraphy Niceee, sounds great.. yeah, life used to be much simpler back in the days, #GoodTimes. I'll also look into doing real estate photography, might be good money, or maybe not lol.. let's see...
Also works great on a D500. FOV is 21mm to 36mm FF equivalent of course but that does not concern me. FF lenses work great on an apsc camera like the D500. Some say it is a waste to use FF lenses because you only use a smaller part of the circle but that happen to be the best part of the lens. Many misconceptions about that subject on the internet. Even assumptions that FF lenses are less sharp on a apsc😅😅
It's a superb lens and one of the very best wide open in the corners at those focal lengths. However... almost all subject images when you're photographing on a professional level are either centre, near centre or in the four PowerPoints. Rarely is a subject at very edge of frame. In landscapes, where this lens excels, more often the aperture is closed down, and I more often shoot landscapes at f/5.6- f/16...where almost all Nikkor lenses match the 14-24mm across the frame. I don't actually mind carrying big lenses (after decades of carrying heavy fast telephoto glass) but the bulk and weight of the 14-24mm plus disadvantage of no filter thread (the workaround of special and expensive bulky filter holders are a real headache) put me off using it. I actually prefer the very old (but superb) Nikkor AF-D 20-35mm f/2.8 lens. It allows filters (I use the circular polariser a great deal) is sharp in the centre wide open 2.8 and at the powerpoints at f/5.6 -f/16, so is extremely useful for portraits and landscapes. I also use the old Lumix 7-14mm f/4 on my Panasonic bodies (equivalent 14-24mm full frame) and it actually matches the Nikkor AF 14-24mm in low distortion at the corners (in fact I would say better). Plus the 7-14 is tiny compared to the Nikkor and surpasses it for use in video. I use the 7-14 a lot for landscapes and underwater (in a housing). So for me, the only real advantage that the Nikkor 14-24mm has is it's performance at f/2.8 for Astro photography.
Fotodiox makes a filter lens kit called wonderpana that also tie in with conkin filters et al. worth a shot even if it's just protecting that bulbous glass from scratches and cracks.
Its also not good for Milky Way Photography >> Its soft in the corners unlike the S version and it has Coma badly too the stars arent pinpoint out wide unlike the S version
I compared this lens with the Z 14-30 f4 and the Z lens was great in the corners. For all DSLR shooters though this lens is it. Im not really one to pixel peep too much when taking pictures for clients/event photography so it does just fine on that front.
Play this at 1.5x. Thank me later.
Hey V! Thank for the banging review! I just reaped one for $580 in mint condition. ✊ to ya!
Enjoy this awesome lens and thank you. glad you enjoyed the video. Great price btw.
Life is bizare. Ive literally just picked one up - mint - for the same price in Spain. looking forward to using the beast
580 for a mint copy of this lens is a bargain

Love this lens to bits! For landscape art photography real estate. Going to buy a wonderpaner for it
Hello Patrick, good idea. I never used one. Once you use it let me know how it is and how it mounts. Should be interesting.

Excellent review and great images from that lens. Even now, it seems well worth the $1700 price.
Thanks Greg. You can find one used for allot less. I sold mine for 850. The one in this video.
Dose it support Nikon D5300?
And it it’s supporting it the video will be in 4k?
Thank you.
It is the only lens I kept for my z7, great lens this is.
Great lens, works great with the FTZ adapter. If you want a totally amazing lens, eventually get the 14-24 Z version. That lens will blow you away.
