This is one of my favorite tracks from all of the discography. It’s the first time we see Vessel’s true rage. It’s the first time we see he is not going to ACCEPT less than what he wants easily. This is also a shift in the dynamic between Vessel and Sleep. I think this is a wake up call to Sleep that who she has here is not to be trifled with.
As sleep returns to Vessel, he has decided enough is enough. In a rare bout of self-esteem he tells Sleep point blank how he feels. “You say you won’t begin again. Capitulate and let me in.” Vessel is acknowledging how Sleep is only asking him for one thing. And it’s the thing he keeps giving her. It’s like a transaction and a heartless one at that. He gives and gives and gives “cause I am a fire, and you are dry as bone. You are taking your time you are killing me slow.” They could ignite this whole thing between them if he only had a chance. If she stopped dragging her feet. His intent is to melt the ice that is around her. The visualizer is aiding us in the ice caverns and melt later in the song.
“And I know, we instigate go back and forth, lacerate, cause you can remember only when you’re alone I am granting you more than the debt that I owe.” They are stuck in this cycle where Sleep is asking and asking and Vessel is allowing and obliging and hurting himself to find common ground with her and she is rarely there to move an inch towards him beyond carnal desire and to feed. Vessel requires more and he feels that Sleep isn’t holding up her end of the bargain. So he’s going to put the screws to her. If she won’t open up, he’ll make her open up.
This anger is a form of self-love. As he states his case “I look for scarlet and you look for ultraviolet” he’s looking for the flesh and blood realness. He’s looking for the heart of their relationship and she is looking for ultraviolet the very opposite end of the color spectrum into the light we cannot even see. She is setting unattainable goals that are only there to drive them apart and Vessel is calling her out.
“With all that you believe you still refuse to shelter me, cause I am a danger and you’re a long way from home you are one among many but you’re now on your own.” He is saying they aren’t that different. They are both coming into this from different worlds but being here in this moment now is all they could need. But still she would rather only remember she wants him when she isn’t there. And all his pleading gets no where so he gets mad at the potential of this being all for naught. And for the first time we see Vessel’s rage come out.
We see the ice melting as a sign that this might be working. Sleep can’t leave after that. She needs to quiet that beast while she still has the upper hand so the chess match begins.

There is sooo much to say about Sleep Token. I have only two complaints. 1) Each track NEVER lasts long enough 2) Each track NEVER EVER lasts long enough....lol God bless Sleep Token! Great channel, you two! The uniqueness of each track is basically produced by one man, which is EXCEPTIONAL!

Great reaction guys 👍🏻 you should check out the live version of this filmed back in 2019 in Worcester MA. Vessel jumps down at the crowd, onto the front barrier.. screaming "the debt that I owe!!" Can you imagine having Vessel up close yelling in your face! 😂 Think I'd fall apart. He's completely unhinged and I love it!!

Yh, that's a powerful version back when people slam danced at their concerts. Don't see that happening much going forward at their concerts now, but can't wait until Nov for the concert.

I love picking out parts where Vessel's accent is particularly noticeable 😂 Sometimes he drops the 'h' at the beginning of words like "head" but not "heaven" for instance. Also in "Take Aim" (I believe the next song in your journey actually, if you're going in order) it's fascinating to hear him do a high falsetto but also have a rounded 'o' on the word "body".

The drummer himself named Abe Cunningham (Deftones Drummer) as his main inspiration at the moment.

Oh and Belle…I giggled too at rim shot even though I know what it means, but I’m like a 14 year old boy most of the time in my head 🤣🤣 I used to get in trouble (not serious trouble) when I worked at Sephora and we had our annual early morning meetings and my assistant manager, who was like a younger brother to me, would say his part and somehow in my head I would turn half of what he was saying into sexual innuendo in my head and start cracking up! 😂
And I agree 100% that Sleep Token is a combination of all of my favorite bands/types of music! That is the very first thing I thought when I first heard them! And then I was aggravated that I hadn’t discovered them sooner!! 😂 I was like, where the hell have they been!?? But yeah…and that end breakdown is pure filth! 🤘🏻🫶🏻

Great reaction, as always, guys! Sleep Token have a theme for each album. Sundowning featured sigils. This Place Will Become Your Tomb had depth measurements in the visualisers and map coordinates in the album booklet (won't disclose the meaning until you get to the album). For Take Me Back To Eden, Sleep Token have designed their own alphabetical symbols and a different guardian for each song. They seem to pay a lot of attention to every little detail of their artistry. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
