Happy new year Timmy! Thanks for the poisons this year! (Your aria and dioko reviews paved the way to my upgrade path)
This is a hall of Fame video for me! Thank you for explaining all of these things! This will help a lot of people who want better sound.
Another good use of autoeq is to tune your iem's to different reviewers targets (squigs have lot of different reviewer and their targets) and see whos preferences aligns with yours the most. So you know that if your preferences align with a reviewer, then that reviewer should carry a bit more weight in your decisions. Audio is subjective after all, we all have different ears and different tastes.
Also you can try to use different reviewers measurements (as you can jump between reviewers in squigs), because they use different techniques and also there is some variance in the iems. So using one set of measurements might sound better for you specifically than another.
Great to see daily videos, especially during the holidays!
2 More to go til new years
Exceptionally good video. I’ve been in the hobby for about 10 years and even in learned something here. Keep it up Timmy
Great video! Thank you very much for this tutorial, this really blew new life in my collection :) Keep it up!
Thank you, just started watching your videos, Awesome content and delivery.. Found this one particularly relevant to me.. Thank you so much!! All the best!
Great video man! I've always heard reviewers talk about EQing but never understood how to do it 👍
Thank you Gizaudio. I’ve used the AutoEQ feature before but didn’t know about the going over $6000 hz rule. Now I know why those attempts sounded weird.
I needed this video since such a long time!!
This was super helpful man, thanks for the info on EQ'ing.. can't wait to play around with it!
Very useful , I just bought EA500 months ago and it has for me the definition of High & Detail , its clear but not pircing in any way. I tweaked it with Eq into Falcon ultra with red noozle & the standard tips and it's so great.
Good explanation i was struggling with my CCZ coffee bean IEM for EQ now it is resolved thanks :)
It seems like the more videos you post the more respect I have. Youre doing a good job of adding value to this community and especially those getting into it.
Just to expand on the inaccuracies using auto eq: One thing to keep in mind when using auto EQs is IEMs are tuned using physical methods that change the sound AFTER the driver/speaker produces it. If it cuts the output of a range of frequencies by 1/3 it’ll always do so even with EQ applied. In that case you could be listening at 90dB (for easy math, that’d be hearing damage loud) without eq then add 6dB using an EQ and you’ll end up with 92dB rather than the 96dB you’d be expecting.
I’m not saying auto EQ isn’t an incredibly useful tool just that you can’t assume you’re getting the predicted frequency response out of your IEMs. You’re just changing the strength of the electrical signal going into the IEM.
Thanks man! And yes, I agree with everything here. I believe there are also other factors in play that affects the effectiveness of EQ as well. Might have to do an "Intermediate level" EQ video in the future.
Late reply, but need to nitpick here. The point you're making is true, that EQ interacts nonlinearly with physical tuning methods. However, decibels is a log scale. Reducing the amplitude of a sound by 1/3%, as in your example, is equivalent to cutting 1.76 dB. The real reason that you can't just "add 1.76 dB and have perfect sound", is that the frequency response of a speaker depends on the volume (this is nonlinear distortion).
Thanks Timmy, this is actually a very informative video, miles better than "just use eq, lol" If you didn't, I was going to mention problems with eq and auto eq but you did a wonderful job there. If you allow me I'd like to add a few things. Wavelet app don't work with DAPs that bypass androids own equalizer/mixer, at least my iBasso DX300 doesn't and from what I learned there is no way to make it work for now. Secondly I use different gear, iems and headphones all the time and also review gear. While using equalizer apo there were times I forgot to change my eq settings and think like: "wait a minute this doesn't sound right", but that's a me thing :D Oh yes, if you use pc to listen to music, equalizer apo is very very good.
How about DAC? My iem have balance cable so i need DAC but i want to EQ it too
been using this wavelet app since 20221 and been very useful for my other crafty iems 😅. now i can create more sound profile. thanks Timmy 😇
Superb video. I found this extremely useful.
Thanks a lot bro for this phenomenal video 🤩💯💯👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for going over auto EQ Timmy. You rock🤘.

Great video man❤❤❤❤❤
Wow i spend a few moments figuring this out but it worked. I tuned the Olina to the Melee with this, and omg... Now i have the Olina but with the bass of the Melee. and yes its better than the Melee or the Olina ( i have both) The second one i did was the Salnotes to the Ie300 and again omg! thank you for this :)! i am going to tune all my iems to things i like now haha.
Thank you Giz! I EQ'd my QKZ AK6 to the Moondrop Chu's and they sound way better now
Thanks Timmy. Inspired to give parametric eq a go after this video. squig AutoEQ result for truthears zero to Sony IER-Z1R sounds fantastic - using jriver media center on PC to apply - happy new year!

any thoughts for Hiby MSEB?
Thank you for the good tips 👍
Moondrop S8 with EQ'ing them to SA6 Ultra (on RME ADI-2 DAC) sounds spectacular. Thank you!
That's what I kept thinking when watching reviews.
People saying "it would be the perfect if it had 3 more dB in the bass" for example, always wondered why not just use an EQ and make it perfect ourself.
Hi, how can i use the bass of Sony, the midrange of monarch and the treble of anihilator on my Wan'er iem?
@@f_society9151 you probably could try. In this video it's shown that you can target specific areas.
@@f_society9151 If you combined this three,it will probably sounds like shit
theres difference in iem that physically actually can do more bass and iem that forced to create more bass
Hi, I have been watching your IEM reviews for some time now. I don't know if you would read, respond, react to this but a few days back I stumbled upon this video. It grabbed my attention. Recently I bought Truthear Hola. After watching this video I did lot of hard work, after lot many misses I now have 2/3 distinct sound signatures which are with lot of character, clarity and strength and very different from the relaxing but a bit mushy sound signature of Hola. I am getting tremendous pleasure by listening to these 250 to 2500 $ range IEM signatures. So I said I will say thank you to you for making it possible. Thank you.
Good double flange eartips for me are spinfit cp220 and cp240. Triple flange tips i have tried are too deep for me and they start irritating/itching the inside of my ear canal
As someone who has the Dunu SNS tips, I'm so jealous your ears suit them well
Great auto eq overview!
Hello,...does digital equalizers such as eq apo harm the quality of source signal?, I do use it for bookshelf stereo setup primarly but at the moment I do not have good acustics, so cant evaluate if it harm somhow to soudstage, clarity etc, actually I need it because I found my new dac trable expanded and I need to reduce it all the way from 2000 HZ - 3000Hz about 1.5 db and fter that about 1 db, so would it e preferable to change the dac until I can or eq is 99% ok?
Thanks for the vid Timmy!
EQ solves the issue of:
*I should buy X IEM because it fixes the issues of my current IEM*
To everyone who reads this:
There is no such thing as a perfect IEM when you buy an X IEM because it *fixes* the issues of your current IEM there is a *VERY HIGH* chance that your new IEM has a different issue on a different frequency
And you will repeat the same mindset Oh gosh my new IEM fixed my previous IEM's issues but I just wished this new one had less of this and more of that so maybe I should buy another which addressed the Issue and the cycle never ends
The point of EQ is not to make your IEM sound perfect but to reduce the things we hate on our current IEMs after all like I said there is no *Perfect IEM* in any price range
i can't use wavelet on my old phone , it doesn't support .. i use poweramp music player , happy customer for it .. and play with parametric eq .. yes , it worth for minor fixing ..
hi timmy , any recommendations for almost dead flat iem for studio mixing ?
Nice vidéo !! Can this be used to watch movies on computer or mobile phone ? Or just for listening music ?
In Canada EQ is heavily regulated to plus or minus 2 decibels. Resolve was issued a special permit to go further for research purposes but the rest of us risk getting a ticket if we are caught. 🥹
Lol
May I add TKZK wave as well? It's bass response is linear and could serve well to those who want a hybrid in this price range
I'd say that the true adventure (and awful sometimes) is actually tuning treble. If you're long enough into this, you'll know how to do it.
And my tips as just a casual user that likes to fiddle around and see if things work out would be: anything in the treble region must have high Q values when you apply any gain, or else it'll bust out the entire region just by slight adjustments; You'll need to apply a *lot* of adjustments to get it ''right'', and the best way to tell if it's sounding somewhat cohesive and natural to you, is to... listen carefully, with tracks that you can clearly test this region.
SO: use Q values above 2, avoid +10dB gains, only a few PK's won't do it probably - use it to abundance, and, listen carefully with appropriate audio to see if you're not messing things up.
DON'T BELIEVE THE GRAPH, if you get to a fine treble tuning but the graph looks like mount everest, don't worry (as long as there's nothing clipping, or else you'll need to pre-amp with a negative volume to your highest peak on the FR). Usually EqualizerAPO tells and prevents clipping from happening. I can't say the same for Wavelet, it doesn't even translate treble well.
Hey I have a hearing loss in the upper frequêncies where the 15-16khx I can only hear at a higher volume, anyone knows if I can only increase those frequêncies(15khz+) without increase others?
@@gs-nq6mw Try doing what i said and see if it gets more audible, don't apply +10dB gain tho.
One question for the AutoEQ on Squiqlink. I tried 2 that worked perfectly like on your video. But i tried a new one today that did not line up perfect like in your sample and the others i tried. I tried to EQ the ie300 to mirror the ie600 from 20-6k. But the lines to not overlap perfectly. Is that normal? Is there a reason it does not line up? When i tried to EQ the ie300 to be like the Z1R, it lined up perfectly.
Hi Timmy! I tuned my SA6 Ultra to Tanchjim Prism and I think its awsome!!! Do you think its better then Prism itself? Thx
for out and about is there an iPhone app that EQs and if the only answer is the built in EQ, then is there a graph out there for each of those eq descriptions (rock, vocal etc)? I have u12t and and am wondering about adding back the 3k dip.
EQing treble seems to be very inconsistent.
Wavelet usually doesn't get it right.
Bass and mids seem to be much easier to EQ in comparison.
Absolutely agree. That's why it's so important to already have good quality treble to start with.
eqing out the resonant peak is real easy with a tone generator and some knowledge with parametric eq
@@eludee119 yes, that's after some experience.
Wavelet still uses graphic EQ and isn't really accurate in the treble. If you want to use parametric EQ in android you can use Poweramp Equalizer or if you're rooted, JamesDSP or Viper4Android
if u use shallow qs to notch out higher frequencies, you probably get phasing which dulls the higher frequencies, need to use non linear eqs and am not sure if these eqs have a non linear/no phase mode
Watching this video brother Timmy with my Tangzu Waner with VE Abigail Dongle Dac Type + Medium size eartips that comes with the IEM itself and I have a good seal! Sounds dope with this budget setup ❤️🔥 *using it on Oneplus 10r 😁

very important, but make sure the autoEQ slider is to the right! Also apply preamp close to or slightly over the maximum peak; you can do that with the channel balance setting (also make sure that slider is to the right!)

Hey Timmy, maybe you can help me deciding? I need the best sub 100€/$ IEMs for playing mostly electronic drums (at home) + rehearsing with my band - we are playing a lot rock/indie/pop but we also use a lot of electronic drum sounds like 808 kicks, snappy snares and other instruments for electronic genres like synth bass etc. I ordered the Moondrop Arias but I don’t like them that much. I miss the the seperation of bassdrum, snare, toms and cymbals. The sound is pleasingly warm, I like to listen to music with them, but they are not good for playing electronic drums imo. I also have the KZ ZS10 Pro, I like the seperation of the instruments, but they just sound bad overall compared to the Arias. Do you have any recommendations for me? THX! 🙏🏻

The 15 usd quarks dsp already do the harman target eq to such an accurate degree that some reviewers are saying it either competes or downright destroys other iems waaay above the 15usd price point. Would be interesting to know your thoughts.
@@scorpioassmodeusgtx1811 Ehh I don't know, as far as I know there is no objective way to measure resolution, soundstaging or imaging in iems aside from rather subjective takes that change from person to person, regardless, I think more people should pay more attention to the incoming dsp earphones from moondrop as I'm sure it will become a trend for other brands next year.
I think we can config treble of planar iems easier than an dd or bà one.
There's currently a bug in Wavelet when you delete and reimport a different EQ with a filename you already used previously. It will sometimes reimport the old EQ settings as if it's cached or something.

bro I thank you so much for the video, I am relatively new to the hobby, and your video is a godsend. Currently I am using Blessing 3, Kiwi Ear Cadenza, and Raptgo Hook X HBB paired with Fiio M11s. I autotuned my Blessing 3 low freq to Dusk 2 (love you Crin) and mid freq to S8 because I crave so much the extra bass on Blessing 3. Now I can use Blessing 3 as my daily driver. So basically Etymotic knows what they are doing when they build IEMs that need to shoved into your brain. Also with regular IEMs I've been having luck with the new TRN T-Ear tips.
It's too bad they don't spend a bit of time learning about cables and the value of modular design. I've had some and did like their sound but I just can't get behind a fixed cable IEM in 2022
On Android, I haven't seen anything even come close to Neutron Player's Parametric EQ. Highly recommend buying it especially when some eartips are more expensive than that, plus the recent version has in-app access to AutoEQ for lazy mode.

i wonder if there are any IEMs that are suitable to used in working environment(need to hear surrounding sound).
.. which means have the least isolation, i guess..
open back iems will have noise bleed through because of the holes, raptgo hook x is really praised and 200-300$
How do we use auto eq with equalizer apo on windows pc? Can I import the txt file similar to wavelet app on Android?
Yes, you can export using the regular "export" button. Not the wavelet one.
Or just copy paste the eq values onto equalizer apo
Can't have bit perfect on android tho... i don't mind windows sound mixer, but the android mixer is a special piece of work
Another tip to spot if your headphones / IEMs can be EQed well is to look at their distortion. The higher the distortion already is, the worse they will react to EQing.
Edit : distortion is MUCH less audible in lower frequency, but suddenly starts becoming an issue in the mids.
Hi. I have 3 iems , x y z . How can i use the bass of x, the timbre(midrange)of y and the treble of y on my Wan'er iem? Do you understand what i mean?
@@f_society9151 I get what you mean. So generally, you could split the method in the video into three different EQ profiles and add them together.
In reality, this will only be an approximation as tempering with one frequency (or frequency range) will affect other frequencies. So if you'd really want to get accurate results, you'd need to apply an EQ setting, measure your IEMs again, apply yet the next EQ settings and get closer to your target response every time.
You could also go the "manual" approach (graphic EQ) and try to create your own correction settings. In my experience that should leave you with better results and it will also teach you a bit of how your IEMs react to EQing. Good luck!
Additionally balanced armature drivers has very high midrange distortion than dynamic drivers. DDs have bass distortion rather than midrange.
