    I am a Manchester United fan so I have no brief for either Leeds United or the England football team or the English FA.
    Now Don Revie yes he did walk away from Leeds to take over his country manager job.One could say managing your country is the ultimate job..and he was a proud Englishman.And he didn’t leave Leeds to go to say Liverpool or Man United.
    Now yes he also walked away from England and you could say at not a good moment.But he was going to get the sack as it was clear he was not wanted at the FA…and Revie walked away before the crap bags there could sack him..and they hated him for that.And the sick lot wanted to punish him…and they failed.Rightly so.
    I can understand why he decided to jump ship especially with that sort of money.And many would have done the same.
    The only issue one could say was the timing but was there such a thing as bad or even good timing?
    I very much doubt it.

    As a Leeds Fan i wil always have the great respect for the DON he was amazing 4 Leeds but for a little bit of luck and some shocking decisions buy referees eg: Leeds v West Brom 71, Leeds v AC Milan ECWC Final 1973 leeds could have gone on to win a lot more Finished in Top 3 for 10 consecutive seasons that says it all really ..

      That's true doc Jones, they were one of the most unluckiest teams around at that time. All the success they had was earned through skill and hard graft and not much luck.

      +The doc Jones The best ENGLISH ELEVEN in my lifetime Harvey, Madeley, Hunter, Charlton, Reaney, Lorimer, Giles, bremner, Gray, Jones, Clarke. Others probably had a bigger squad but that side were great. Maybe with a worldclass keeper they would have won more but remember that side with such fondness. And I speak as a Spurs supporter

      And his team, managed by Jimmy Armfield, was conned out of a European Cup final win against Bayern Munich by a dodgy ref.

    He left because he knew he was gonna get the boot. The FA couldn't stand the fact that they didn't get to sack him... so they took their revenge with a 10 year ban from English football. This ban was eventually overturned on appeal. Just shows the lack of class from the FA and exactly the sort of people they were. If you knew you were to be sacked what would you do? It's a no-brainer!

      When Don Revie died none of the FA people went to his funeral. Another example of the FAs lack of class.

    Revie should have been put in charge of the FA and allowed to do what he wanted, and I guarentee England would have a truly world class national team today

      Fa are a part of establishment. Who appoints them? They can sack managers, but when a manager leaves his England manager job, he is a traitor, money grabbing,...etc.
      FA instigated a smear campaign against Don Revie, and as time passed the FA were left with egg on their faces.

    there's no doubt both Don Revie England story was one the most intriguing in FA history. Is history at last redressing the balance as Don was "hard done by" the press, popular opinion in the wake of his leaving England? Probably Don deserves his side of the verdict .... but with caveats. Not only was there the abrupt (and it was abrupt) decision to take the England job, only to leave just as suddenly. Yes he would fear the backlash (I am certain the FA treated him terribly) but it was the way he left. At that time, the England football men's team was considered much more of an institution that is currently: what Don did was a blow to our pride. Yes you could alibi his decision with the likely treatment from the FA board, but not his behaviour. Wasn't just the UAE job, remember? Paid into a Swiss account? Really???? then there are all the match fixing and tax fraud stores that just won't disappear. This paints a picture of a great manager, but a flawed person, grabbing the wealth wherever he could - I am not saying it's fair to tarnish his entire reputation with that. It's his and Clough's tragedy there careers preceded the real wealth and riches players and managers alike currently enjoy. Then .... a quick east payday meant a lot more .... and people could be more willing to cut corners to get it. He was shabbily treated by the FA, posters here are right to call out Thompson but what about Sir Stanley Rous? Remember him? When all is said and done, you left us flat Don .... you did. And that in the wake of the vicious comments you made after Clough got fired by Leeds. Brass neck .... Then there are the allegations still coming to light over match fixing, alleged tax fraud accusations. No word offered in defence, no word at all.

    I’ve heard Professor Sir Harold Thompson’s name being mentioned in a few books and documentaries about the FA and the England team and it’s never in a positive light. The man sounded like a total bastard.

    Here are some FACTS... 1, He walked out on Leeds United, 2, He walked out on England, He left our country "England" as he was being pursued over match fixing. These FACTS CAN NOT BE QUESTIONED!

    • @helltopo
      @helltopo 10 лет назад +7

      Yes 'the facts' can be questioned 'Cummings' - firstly Revie didn't 'walk out on Leeds'. He had turned down several bigger paying managerial roles, but the England job was then the most prestigious role in English football management & at that point there had only been two, Winterbottom & Ramsey who both had long tenures. He then left the England job knowing the odious Harold Thompson was going to sack him & the match fixing allegations have never been proven & are based around the ramblings of a handful of cash strapped ex pros who were defeated in court by Billy Bremner. Even Derek Dougan testified that the 1972 Wolves vs Leeds bribery claims were false!

    • @merseydave1
      @merseydave1 10 лет назад +3

      You talk of the coverted England Job and the previouse two managers re- the long tenures?
      he left us "in the lerch", after two years...as for the inament sacking...he could have faced all aligasions thus haveing his contract paid out...and Gary Sprake would have had the opportunity to hang him out to dry...To end he should have been sacked on his terrible euro 76 mis -quaulification for the final stages, and he should have done better in the early stages of the 1978 world cup qualifiers...a loser and wheeler dealer.

      It does not matter if you support lufc or not, he left Leeds for England = FACT, He walked out on England as the lufc match fixing history was catching up on him = FACT, He Scurried away like a RAT to he U.A.E. for more money and left us all in the S&%T = FACT

      Facts require proof, not just vigorous assertion. And the bigger the claim, the more onerous the burden of proof required.
