  • Carnegie Mellon Racing presents our second ever fully autonomous electric racecar, 22a!
After 19a's success, completing the first ever driverless lap at Formula Hybrid-Electric in 2023, the team worked tirelessly all year to create a faster and more reliable car than ever before.
We are incredibly happy to announce that at Formula Hybrid-Electric 2024, our car was able to complete 5 laps, and hit a top speed of 30 miles per hour, completing CMR's second ever driverless showcase. We are incredibly proud of our driverless team, who worked around the clock to make sure that 22a could be the best possible autonomous vehicle.
As for future plans, we hope this progress inspires other teams to begin working on autonomous FSAE vehicles, leading to a North American driverless competition!
We are also incredibly excited to announce that we are completely open sourcing the software that made 22a possible! We want to lower the barrier to entry for teams looking to enter the autonomous field in North America, so this year we have made the decision to open source our work. All of our driverless vehicle's documentation can be found here ⬇️
