The satire is *whooshing* over everyone in this ep. It’s referencing how it used to shock the nation when there was a school shooting, now it’s just a blip on the nightly news. It’s not a big deal to the public as while anymore
Most news get exhausting and repeated stimuli lose their punch. We are stupid mammals :P
Did people really not get it?
It used to shock people because it wasn’t common, it became common when a few things changed, namely:
1. Divorce rates went through the roof, leading to a massive increase in single parent households.
2. Schools and parents began drugging kids as a solution for nearly everything.
3. Nearly half the country stopped trying to analyze this problem critically once it started and either decided to blame it on social outcasts, guns (which were around long before this became a problem) and movies/music/video games. You can thank the Christian Right and morons like Michael Moore for this.
I can only speak for myself, but every time I hear about a school shooting, I get bored really fast because I know the discussion that is coming will be pointless and nothing will happen. Even if I wasn’t a gun owner who is tired of being treated like a potential criminal whenever this crap happens, people always talk past each other and argue from emotion rather than logic. When you know a problem won’t be solved and it keeps getting worse, becoming numb to it is the inevitable result.
Regardless of what message Matt and Trey were trying to convey here, I laughed hysterically at the episode because, to me, the people who react like Sharon does are usually part of the problem, and sometimes when I see some hysterical person on the internet yammering about gun control laws or banning music or video games, I’m tempted to tell them it’s just their hormones just to get a rise out of them.
@@hellsunicornLOL. That you fail to identify is the easy access to guns in America. That's why we have mass shootings. Every year we pump out more guns and we have more shootings. It's the guns.
If you want to get into culture, we glorify selfishness, violence and hatred of others in America. Our economy leads to massive inequality that plays a part in inferiority/superiority complexes that sow resentment. Our primary Religion promises forgiveness of ANY evil so long as you beg forgiveness.
The culture plays a part, but it's very obviously all the guns and their easy access. No guns=no shootings. Very simple.
@@booskie4316 No Alcohol no DUIs as well. So outlaw alcohol
When this episode came out there was a school shooting almost weekly and people just started to become numb to hearing about them
"Why is nobody acting like this is a big deal?"
That's the point, this episode came out during one of the many irl "events" and some people downplaying the urgency of it as "now is not the time for discussion".
only discussion that needs to be had is mental health, but itll never happen cause theres big money in letting the crazy run wild
@@Thranotheoneandonly Why discuss mental health when certain kind of people of certain political side are gonna say 'Everybody blames everything on mental illness'
@@Thranotheoneandonlywell the cure to mental health is buying a gun so you can "feel safe and in control"
Exactly.
it's not mental health brother, america is the only country in the world where this happens regularly, you don't need to have a high IQ to put 2 and 2 together and realize where the problem might lie.
The satire here was that there was a time where there was shooting after shooting at a school and eventually people in the USA started to tune out, so the media freaked out about that.
FYI, Cartman is supposed to be dressed like Jessica Jones, a detective from the Marvel Universe. Show came out on Netflix at around the same time.
Really I didn't know that. Now that I see it he does resemble Jessica Jones. I guess this episode came out when the show was popular. I always wondered why he was wearing a leather jacket in this episode?
Ohhhhhh lol never knew that
I thought it was from that movie Brick?
The episode came out in 2018 and it was a really bad year for School Shootings and it was out of control. So much so that people didn't take it more seriously. You keep hearing the same thing about how the Government is going to do something to stop the shootings but nothing ever happens and it still keeps happening. It is understandable that this episode is satiring this whole thing.
There have been 3 this year already. It's still bad.
@@cfairfax85 Pretty much sums up America
@@cfairfax85real ones? I don’t think I’ve heard of any this year.
@@Jar0fMay0 I hadn't heard of any shootings either, but it took one Google search to find a website that tracks the shootings. I checked the most recent 3, and there's plenty reporting from various sources on those. Scary stuff.
Why He doesn’t understand the reference that South Park is doing to the almost daily shootings in the u.s schools, he’s taking too literal
Ya thats was weird😂
Which is weird because he's not usually the guy to take jokes literally. Uncharacteristic semi L for our fella DTV.
@@overused6632 how am I trying to be cool?
Especially its not his south park epidode and he knows their usual take on things. It was really tough watch and i really do not understand how he didnt get what episode was trying to do. Shame because it was really good episode
You ever hear that one girl say to the news "It was only a matter of time until it happens here" or something along those lines?
They know... bulletproof backpacks exist. Schools are designed with cover in mind. South Park isn't as crazy as you think.
Columbine, Colorado was one of the first major school shootings. Trey and Matt grew up near there I think.
The craziness in this episode is flawless, from Tolkien playing Cartman, to school shootings… South Park never fails to make pure gold.
The whole town has become desensitized to school shootings and it references how no one takes them seriously even when more of them happen frequently. It's also because South Park has experienced a lot of supernatural events too.
It's funny how your more concerned for Stan than his own parents
His what?
Hell, I've always been concerned for Kenny and Butters; they have it a lot worse at home.
16:57 LOL"NO! NO!! NOO!!!" I didn’t expect that reaction
Cartman was parodying the Marvel Netflix show Jessica Jones. Same theme music and outfit 😂
The whole randy crying to his friends, periods/menopause side to the episode is so funny.
i Love Stan`s Face at the Table he`s All like Why is my Mom overreacting? 3:18
Sharon is what a normal person would be like if they were thrown into South Park haha
8:00 Bulk and Skull.🤘🏻🥰🖤🩶
Man.... Watching his reaction all the way through.... This guy NEVER understood the satire lol. That's pretty amazing. You'd think after the first two times he'd get it.
It’s funny too, this entire season you’ll see Stan in a cast due to the fact he got shot in presumably the arm.
America’s saddest problem…
We’re sadly used to it…
In the world of South Park, they see shit happened all the time. This is nothing new to them.
@@Pommy248 "In the world of south park..." Why exactly? I am pretty sure bulletproof backpacks don't come from there... they are real.
@@Pommy248it’s not a South Park setting joke, it’s the real world satirized

@@Neekneak-zt9dqSkewl sh*,*tings keep happening, and instead of caring more, Americans are just starting to accept it
It's satire
How can you line in the US and not understand this joke
@@Neekneak-zt9dq the joke is that it happens so often that everyone is desentisized to the point it has become normalized thats why no one cared
also it empasizes it more when it happened about 10 times in the episode and about 9 of them in the same school
@@ThommyMckGoaty Well, if he didn't knew about what was happening in U.S. at the time of this episode it's not surprising the joke might went over him. Not everyone pays attention to the news even big ones.
The entire joke of the episode is that Sharon is showing the correct amount of outrage yet SHE looks like the crazy person of the town because this is South Park pointing out how ridiculous it is that US has normalized school shootings. Obviously, this came out after the Parkland School incident in Florida IIRC. OH... It gets CRAZY WILD. 😆
He needs to see Go Godd Go and Go God Go XII
You can't say "shooting" anymore?
Yeah, her going crazy about it and others act like its not a big deal, its kinda perfect comparison to how f.e. ppl in Europe and other parts of the world look at this (Sharon being Europe, other ppl US), or at least how it looks to us. Exaggerated ofc.
So Europeans don’t try to solve problems logically and get hysterical instead? I don’t think this is the approach you want to take to this topic, because Sharon is a perfect example of why this problem will never be fixed over here.
@@hellsunicornnah, Europeans watch the news and see that there was another school shooting in the US and be like „Ah yes, so what's the news?“ School and mass shooting reports out of the US ain't nothing special anymore.
I love that My man over here was catching that it was so wierd that everyone was ignoring Sharon, Its because IRL it's so F-ing weird that everyone keeps shifting the topic and they really made this episode reflect it. I feel big for Sharon, Im just as angry as she has been.
compared to rest of the world, school S's is very normal in US. lack of action against it is very much shown that powers do find it normal as well
This is my favorite season that I can think of. I mean in my opinion this and last season is when the show started going episodes based on what was happening in real time. If something happened today they would make next weeks episode about this past week. I dont wanna spoil anything but I think your gonna be happy you continued straight into this next season
This episode actually hits on two issues.
One being the obvious, school shootings.
Two is about how people attribute any time a woman has negative feelings over something to her period.
Its funny because now they are allowing teachers to carry guns in Tennessee 😂. South Park don't miss
Jfc
Butters shot Stan by accident lol
The sad unrealistic part of the episode is that police actually came in and helped
South Park takes real events and exaggerates its depictions of those events. Why does he always takes everything so literal on this show? He's been watching South Park for over a year now, so he should have understood Matt and Trey's sense of humor by now.
Cartman was parodying the Marvel Character Jessica Jones
Yes! I remember when COLUMBINE happened! The entire country ground to a halt!! Today u read about a school shooting and forget it 2 minutes later. I’m as guilty as all y’all! So sad. Leave it to South Park man.. damn
because most of the time since it became normalized it mostly only happens in public schools, and public schools nowadays are just small ghettos with training wheels. nobody cares what happens in ghettos but if it happened at a private school you'd better believe people will care.
No they wouldn’t .
Statistically, a child being in school the the safest place to be. Even more than being home. Just the stats.
Ah, yes, this is the infamous season where Matt and Trey got tired of working on the show and tried to sabotage themselves, so half the episodes are good while the other half feature multiple jokes that drag on too long.
You don't like trump or obama, do you? I eat all rats raw.
The scene that shows how Stan’s parents react to the news of the school shooting is kinda playing on how men and women react to certain situations differently. Women tend to react more emotional, while men don’t pay much attention to it if the situation is already resolved.
Bro has no idea what jokes are. Also this was made around the time there were more school shootings than days in the year at the time
What's the joke
That's a fake statistic, there has never been a time where actual school events occurred at a rate anywhere near daily. The false statistic you reference includes incidents not on school campuses and after school hours.
You really don't watch this guy then. He didn't get the joke, im not even sure if he is American or not, i thought he mentioned being Canadian once but thay might be someone else. point is it's not that big of a deal, it just flew over his head, he makes jokes literally every video this the only video ive watched by him that he didn't get 😂
It is a false statistic to claim there was ever a time there were more school incidents than days of year. Just another example of a fake statistic being used to push a narrative.
can't wait for the episode about the newly armed teachers
in the world of South Park out of all the shit they’ve gone through the past 20 seasons I’m not too surprised that they don’t think the school shootings a big deal
The whole point the episode is making is that it's NOT normal that people have become so numb to dead kids in school shootings, and it's not normal that so many people have taken them as a fact of life, like there's nothing that can be done about them.
0:45 "THE SHOOTER DOESN'T DISMISS YOU, I DO!"
This ep for me is just how the rest of the world sees America and how it handles its problems
Matt and Tray always troll both sides. If you are only seeing one side, you’re missing half the picture. This is both about the people for whom it has become a normal thing that there is a school shooting and everyone on the other side who is hooking their baggage on this horse.
in the very next episode after this, stans arm is in a sling, little continuity from here
The joke is they are not reacting and don't care because people in the real world has grown numb to it. When was the last time you heard about a school shooting that was talked about more than 5 minutes on the news?
Its just the way if life no one cares about fixing it. In a way it is sort of like people in London eventually got to a point where they didn't get hysterical when bombs dropped during WW2 because it just became a common thing that you had to go down to the bunkers hoping you had a home when you got up. After the hundredth time you will just accept your fate. That's been the human condition always.
How does he not understand the very clear message that we’re desensitized to mass shootings, and specifically, school shootings? Like the message wasn’t exactly subtle
There was a lot more school shootings back then, maybe there still is now but there is kind of just a drop in school shootings hitting the news, unless it is just me only being informed in school shootings near me, which is about every couple months compared to the insanely high rates i was hearing about them back then.
5:45 exactly
So weird. You spend months watching SP with someone, and then have to sit there and spend a whole episode watching them seemingly discover satire, and how to understand it. WTF?
3:44 Nobody is acting like it's a big deal beacuse they live in the USA. Over there that's pretty much a normal school day.
(I'm joking, but the world does think your country is ridiculous for after all these incidents and you guys still doing nothing about it).
I live in the US and ur not totally wrong and even so it’s messed up still
Hey, if you want to get over here and try to get the pharmaceutical companies to stop drugging the hell out of our kids, you’re welcome to try. You’ll be fighting a lobbying effort with more money and influence than your country’s likely GDP. Granted, depending on what country you’re in, your nation’s response to the Covid cult may leave you with little room to talk about how crazy anyone else looks.
@@Blacknight6577you guys had around 80 school shootings last year, in total over 300 incidents of guns being fired in school. In total over 40.000 people died through gun violence last year, that's 109 people per day or 13 9/11`s per year. So yes, this is a common experience in us schools

They really thought its cause of the 🔴 time 😂😂😂
It was tough watch seeing him not getting the (obvious) "joke".
This was really one of the gold star episodes
Also. Its not AR lol
I remember the first time i saw this episode when it came out, i was still in school and school shootings were in the news all the time, and i already have an anxiety disorder so to say i was legitimately stressed everyday about something happening isnt an overstatement. So when i saw this episode the first time i was just like you, except honestly a little bit more unhinged from how stressed i was, while my parents were like the rest of the comments here, that its the joke, we're all numb, youre not getting the joke kiddo, the joke is "precedes to explain same thing again."
I actually still like this episode though, not because i find it particularly funny. I think it feels kinda cathartic to hear Sharon scream at the other throughout the episode. The ending is bittersweet, on one hand, i agree Sharon was never wrong, and it horrifying that her son got shot and neither parent seemed to actually care all that much. At the same time, like you said, living with that constant fear, the pressure, the stress, is unsustainable and so this detachment is what the majority of us have turned to cope, just to a lesser effect than the cartoon characters.
As a person that went to school in the UK I could never comprehend this, but I have to commend your mentality towards it. The US needs help.
American schools are still safer that 90% of other European countries
Theyacting as if nothing happened because it'a America and they ain't European students, they r used to it xD
if you remember the episode with butters and father maxi stan had his arm in a cast from the shooting.
“Am I missing something here?”
My dude, you specifically should be asking yourself that literally every episode, multiple times.
Fan of your videos, but you miss obvious things all the time lol XD
Stan’s mom before vs after this episode
Before this episode : thinks Stan killed someone and hides the body so Stan won’t go to prison
After this episode: Stan got shot that can wait
I live in germany and every time i hear about the american gun policies and some peoples perspective on gun useage it seems like a south park parody to me. From an non US perspective its just insane and atelast in germany many people thinks american people are insane and stupid when it comes to guns. We know thats not the case for most people but its pretty hard not to think this way everytime i hear some guy talk about the positives of guns or see a little kids looking at guns/ holding them with their parents or how arming the teachers are a good idea. Fighting guns with more guns seems so stupid to us. I mean in germany you hear about a school shooting like every 3-4 years or so if not even less common. Idk i see like little to no positive sides to guns but I guess thats just my perspective because here in germany its never ever shown in a positive/neutral light whatsoever aside from police/army and such stuff. But i am happy to here some US perspectives on the topic because maybe we just hear about the bad stuff. You know how social media can be.
At least we didn’t try to go to war with the world twice, unlike some places. Now that IS insane.
@@johndough3809I mean that can easily happen under the wrong leader and circumstances. We are the best example for that. But to be fair the US is pretty isolated when it comes to other countries atleast in comparison with european countries. Europe has a long history with changing borders and wars. Obv there are conflicts when you are surrounded by many different countries and ideolegies for centurys. Not easy to compare european countrys and the US when it comes to that.
@@johndough3809Germany didn’t start ww1 and it was easy to see why they turned to Hitler in ww2- extreme punishment from the treaty of Versailles, hyperinflation, depression, the people were looking for any way out. Not excusing what Germany did but I can understand why they turned to fascism.

The only viewpoint deserving of mockery is that an inanimate object is a problem in society, and not society itself.
@@UpYourArsenalI agree.
Lol this went right over your head. When this episode came out, these were common occurrences, like there was almost one per month for a while. Sometimes there was multiple in a single month. The episode was showing how literally nobody cared anymore. It was just the top story on the nightly news, Got its three minutes of fame, and then the cycle moved on to something else because it became so normal. That’s what the episode was trying to portray, how we became numb to it all.

Please do D-Yikes from season 11
Let’s go another season
Considering what the South Park residents went through throughout the show……this is just another Tuesday for them
Honestly I didn't get this episode either when I first saw it, I would consider school shootings a big deal. That's obviously because I don't live in the US, where they seem to be just a part of life for the average American. In my country there is a lot of crime that is failing to be dealt with, but not to the point of school shootings being an everyday occurrence. So yes while I understand the satire, it didn't resonate strongly with me, as it's still a sad reality that school shootings are the kind of thing people have to get used to. Plus that fake out ending I think was deliberate by Trey & Matt to get people hating, as they had actually tried to get themselves cancelled during that season either as a joke, or because they were feeling burnt out over the show at that time.
Either way it was still pretty funny in parts with the period jokes, but South Park has done dark humour better in a lot more other episodes I believe.
You can't say school shooting? Damn RUclips
