Great tutorial! Actually only wanted to replace my battery, but during removal of the screen, the digitizer cracked so I was forced to exchange the screen as well. Good job!
Thanks for the vid, awesome that tip about the antennae You REALLY should start using ethanol/isopropanol whilst doing this ... The moment I started feeding it through a blunt needle the adhesive basically turned liquid
great video. very detailed and informational. The little cable next to the home button, that you had to solder on the new screen. what is that little cable for? what does it do?
Nice work. Can I ask if the reseal tape is available for purchase as I noticed that it runs all the way around the perimeter and looks factory. This is an important step that you missed and others would appreciate that nugget of info please.
Great video _ I also found that heating up the metal spludger helps too. I just removed the screen / digitizer and home button. I see OEM remanufactured screens on eBay with sleep wake the buttons pre installed for around $125 - is this legit? Any recommendations for places to buy new screens ? Just out of interest, what do you charge to do an Air 2 screen repair. I love these screens and we have the new 2019 cheapy iPad and you can see how they cheaped out on the screen and how there is a big gap between screen and glass that is not present on this laminated screen.
Thanks for the clear and informative video! I have done a bit of basic repairs on my iPads over the years , like screen and battery and all worked out fine except my latest, my air2. I knew the battery was in need of repair just needing to be recharged more and more. The unit was working fine before I put the new battery in but now there is no screen function at all just a black screen. I have a little gizmo that checks if the battery is fully charged which is fine and connecting it to iTunes it recognized the iPhad but I can't because of no touch screen function to tell iTunes what to do.( restore, erase data ect ) I have a little microscope and checked the board and ribbons and connections for screen to board a few times and can find no damage. The battery replacement on this iPad is basically really easy so I'm scratching my head on this one. Worked fine before and now nothing? What might be your expert recommendation be? Thanks if you reply 😊
@@FixItPlanet1 Thanks for your reply, I did finally figure out it was a display malfunction ( self caused 😤 ) whe removing screen. I took a gamble for troubleshooting purposes and bought a air2 on ebay for 38$ that had a broken screen but yet had some screen function, removed it and connected my original one up and the display did come on but one corner had display damage ( digitizer horizontal and vertical lines ) why it didn't show this on my iPad leads me to believe there is a component or components on the board fried. What I'm going to do is replace the digitizer on my original lcd screen, you can get these separate, there's actually 3 components to the air2 screen assembly, lcd, digitizer and glass screen and all glued together ( way to go apple) hence why these iPads are the most expensive to fix. I do have the the necessary equipment to do this but I have yet to do one. I'm basically doing this for self training for experience. This is out of the question for a client, business perspective, no money to be made. These iPads are getting to old for this type of investment(screen replacement ) If this works out and the dam thing comes to life, I will consider myself a brain 🧠 surgeon, now where is my scalpel? 😂 ps, I will send you an update!
I replaced the screen and new home button (didn't keep the original) but home button won't work. I've got another screen and home button but still won't work :( Screen works but home button won't. is it that little sensor that you are soldering of? I didn't keep that either but can order one online.
Here is the sleep wake sensor amzn.to/2xi0vA7 You can replace the home button but security feature will not work anymore. Here is a black button amzn.to/3bQsCFD Here is a white button amzn.to/2Sjklm6
Very good and clean job! But one question. I replaced the lcd display and everything is fine. But the home don't work. I ordered a new home button but still don't work. Any idea? Thank you mate!
The touch ID security feature does not work? or the button is not responding at all? It is difficult to guess without more details. The home button security feature will never work again if the original home button was damaged even if you replace it. If the button is not responding at all then there is some other problem. Maybe the connector and or flex assembly is damaged or the replacement button is bad. Closely examine all of it under microscope and let me know if you sort it out. Good luck!
Very useful but you skipped over the details about the adhesive. I would also be good to know some sources and costs for materials like the screen, WiFi antenna etc. thanks a lot for the instructional video. The pace and details other than those mentioned by me were very good.
I see many people do this on the Internet repairing iPads. Take a digitizer apart, it is time consuming doing it this way. Rubbing alcohol works much better. Put it on a toothbrush and go around the edges make sure it doesn’t run into the iPad. The rubbing alcohol it runs away from it and it removes all the adhesive for you. You’re finished in like 10 minutes or less. And to replace the battery. That is some heavy duty glue! Use UN-DU Liquid adhesive remover. And I realize that the people that are doing these videos, do not put a cloth up under the customers iPad and they come back severely scratched up. I have repaired my phone about 4 times from dropping it. When the Apple Store told me $150.00 I said no way! I will repair it myself. It looks intimidating but it’s actually very easy. My seven year old grandson dropped and broke his iPad twice. I ordered the parts and repaired it myself. For a Grandma I’m pretty proud of myself.
We don't scratch up the iPads. We keep our bench clean from debris that scratch. Yes you can use alcohol to soften the adhesive. Keep up the good work!
If you are referring to the (round) home button at the bottom of the iPad, that has a security feature and finger print reader embedded inside the button that is paired to the logic board. You can replace the button but the security feature and finger print sensor will no longer work.
Hello, My old pad does not seem to have the open sensor that you are soldering off, although the new replacement LCD does. My screen was shattered and my home button is damaged. will it still work without the security feature?
It depends on type of damage. The home button may work as a button but security feature won't or maybe the security feature works but the button won't. If you replace the button assembly the security feature will not work but the button will work.
Hi Umm my friend has an Ipad air 2 and their home button is broken..... Can I just buy a replacement button or it has to be the from the same unit that it came with?
Great video thanks. But I din't see you showing if touch ID worked or not. Unless I missed it. Also if you're using a used screen ie you don't have to do any soldering as that soldered bit is already in the used screen
True we didn't show that but if there is no damage to the cable there is no problem. If there was anything wrong it would have popped up with a message saying it could not initialize the touch ID at boot up.
This was very helpful and made me aware that I can't do this at home. I already took an iPad Air 2 apart to fix for a friend of mine that the glass digitizer was shattered really bad. And I thought I broke a ribbon cable for the home button. I was relieved that I didn't. So I will probably take it to a professional I know locally so it can be repaired as I don't have a decent soldering iron and such to do this repair. lol
First try holding the power and home button until apple logo appears. See if that works. If this does not work make sure your battery connection is perfect and double check all your connections.
Thanks for the complement. The bench mats are grounded and I wear an ankle strap. I don't wear gloves for a number of reasons. Probably should just to hide my ugly hands. ;) Cheers

Where can I buy the tiny screws for the display hold down? I lost 1 and can’t find it.
thanks for good tutorial sr..
hello how to make the home button security function work when i change the lcd display thanks.
If the home button is damaged in any way, security function will not work ever again. It cannot be fixed.
Your last home button trick is awesome... thank you
Color has changed to gray
Is there a way to fix a screen ribbon that has maybe been creased too hard but still works

The iPad Air 2 has a finger print sensor in the button so you will lose that feature if you damage or replace that button.

Hi, what’s the function at 15:04 in the video ?
Sleep / wake sensor
Do you put any adhesive for the new screen?
Yes we put fresh new adhesive on the frame around the edges and cut to fit before sealing the new screen down to the frame.

Try 2mm for the sides and 5mm for top and bottom then cut to fit. You can get different widths here amzn.to/2Gxm7KW

Is this the "home button" that you need to solder over? And is this needed for glass only, glass with digitizer or both?
You do not have to solder the home button and the screen assembly comes with the display and touchscreen together on this model.
