Your top 100 has alot of variety. very enjoyable watch just like all your vids.
Agreed!
Great list Kim. There are two games that I'm surprised didn't make your list though. The first game I would say is missing is Star Control II; the 3DO version, with its surprisingly good voice acting (for a 90s game). The second is Sid Meier's Alpha Centari (with the Alien Crossfire expansion). Civilization 2 was good, in fact if it had the cultural boundaries introduced in Civ 3 it would be my favorite. However, Civ 3 with the Warhammer mod is probably in my top 3 favorite games.
There's no bigger injustice than you having only 50k subscribers and Logan Paul had 10 million! Great video
Who is Logan Paul?
10 million subscribers is a curse, it turns into a circus which is what a lot of these RUclips stars are part of without realising it. Kim definitely deserves a wider audience, but she has a real community of fans, something that would be lost with millions of subs
I didn’t think I’d watch a 90 minute video... but here I am at the end. Great job, enjoyed listening to your favourites and learning about some new games
Hi Pam! Your list was awesome as well. Now you should buy a ZX Spectrum! :) Personally I'd recommend a C64 first but I grew up with that one... Anyway, they're both great. And now it's bloody late.
There's a great documentary called From Bedrooms to Billions, about the UK games industry in the 80s/90s? Quite fascinatingly different to what Nintendo was doing in North America.
Yeah, 4.20am now. Don't know whether to be grateful, or annoyed...
(insert 'why not both' meme here...)
@Jason Voorhees Dammit Jason, why can't you be nice, like your mother raised you.
@Jason Voorhees "kid"?
awesome!
I LOVE that you keep the details up all through the gameplay, no more having to rewind the video cassette once I decide I want to add this game to my "must-play/buy" list!
Keep up the great work, you're one of the best doco makers I watch :-)
One of the best lists ever on RUclips. I cannot be the only person that just needs to hear Aeris' themes to get goose bumps and start feeling the heart strings getting pulled- it must be special. Its the same feeling you feel when you encounter love... but it's with a video game! It's messed up but that's FF7.
I like this a lot: it's not THE definitive list, it's YOUR definitive list. Very bold, quirky and fun. Thanks, if only for making me shout 'YES!' in Morrisons when I heard you confirm Fifa98: that and PES4 had me locked into the list... ;) As ever, some nice gems I'm now itching to play as well as some classics I thought I was alone in :) thanks again.
I love the music you use in your intro and I don't know why or even if I've heard it before but it makes me feel very nostalgic.
Great list! I watched this all in one sitting; must've taken ages. A fair few of my own personal all-time favourites on here.
Just started watching your channel Kim! I’m absolutely loving it!
Throughly enjoy your most excellent reviews and witty banter!
Wow - what a great trip down memory lane! Thanks too for unearthing some gems - I’ll definitely give some of these I’ve not heard of. Love all the great content :)
Very interesting perspectives! Glad to stumble upon your channel!
Great video Kim, the personal touches you add to the games as you recall them are just fantastic. We all seem to have at least one game that we played once at someone's house, that then rocked our world's so much we had to have it! Can't wait for your next Dad road trip/gaming cross over! ☺
My new favorite RUclips personality. Just a regular, relatable enthusiast. Love it
What a great personal list with so many games I have never even heard of! Most of those top lists always show the same few games. Definitely found a few ones I’m going to check out myself!
My friend Chris Tang worked on Gauntlet IV. You didn't mention the battle mode, but if you have friends to play with, it is amazing!
I want you to know that you are the first retro gamer I ever watched on RUclips and you are still a rock star that needs more subs I mean it's a crime that you don't have more!! That was a great list Kim I played quite a few of those on my Genesis back in the day and I agree Sonic 2 and Streets of Rage 2 were the best of the series. My all time favorite Genesis game? It's a tie between some baseball game I got with the system and Gunstar Hero's. And oh you convinced me to get FFVII to play on my PS2 and I found a copy in good condition for a great price. Anyway keep making great videos!!
Do you mean Tommy Lasorda Baseball?
What a perfect bank holiday sunday vid to watch. Very well presented and written! Huge well done!
Awrsome video Kim. Some fond memories too for me like Death Race 3D and Castlevania 4. Love your channel as I'm too a veteran gaming since the Speccy. Keep up the good work and thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Why I love this channel does a top 100 but actually thinks about it and every game is a representation of Kim. So many channels do this and just go to reddit copy paste a nice safe list and read a wiki description thanks Kim so many games brought to my attention which is the point of these vids for me.
Totally agree
Seriously those lists are fucking boring and it's always funny to see weirdos in the comments complain that a list like this isn't exactly the same as the generic garbage websites like IGN churn out which are nothing but glorified popularity contests.
Yep. Even On these comments it's how can you not of played or ranked this game? Well it's her top 100! Rather than yep better stick it on my list to get validation.
@@orbitingdecay6797 Exactly. I won't name names but some gaming youtubers love to pander, Kim is not one of those.
I'm glad to see a list that doesn't have the fucking Witcher 3 or a Souls game for once.
Love this list, the reminiscences of the individual games really brings it alive, making sure that we know every game is a unique gem and not just another number out of a hundred. I still have about half an hour to go! :D
Magnificent. A wonderful and humble review of the great and the good. Think I’ll watch it again now.
Didn’t feel like a 90 minute video at all. I didn’t fast forward once.
Bravo. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yay! The first time I remembered to check if I'm in the Patreon list!
Usually wouldn't watch something like this, but I knew your top 100 would be interesting! And it was! Thanks! :)
The most underrated gaming and retro channel on youtube. Great video as always.
I often think modern top 100s miss out far too many retro games. this is refreshing. cant help wanting to chuck godfather for mafia on the pc. and no manic miner!!! woah woah woah kim
I was thinking the same thing, Godfather is here and no Mafia? But I guess a top 100 is subjective, some games you spend a lot of time with because that's what you got, and some you never get to play... Greatest impact of a game is in it's own era, playing it a few years after that won't have the same impact.
"It should be clear by this point that I am very much on the spectrum"
As usual an amazing video, interesting premise that made these 1.5 hours flow like a breeze
20 years down the road I fully expect you to revisit FF7 for a 300 hour retrospective, and boy am I looking forward to it.
Awesome, at first I was annoyed that you didn't announce each number but it flowed really well and seemed to go by way faster to than it's length
I absolutely love your content, Kim - always insightful and witty. Please never stop.
Great Vid, an exhaustive list. The only glaring omission for me? Ah maybe two. Myth on Spectrum, and Lemmings on anything.
Oh, wow... No Lemmings.
Lemmings the all-time classic.
Best reviewer on RUclips strikes again.
Without a doubt, his narration even easiest my anxiety!
@@matthewlane518 Ditto. I often listen to certain channels when I feel out of sorts.
Love the bit tune at beginning of video. Sounds bit like Commodore Amiga gem Giana sisters.
Still watching made an all day slow crawl....and im loving it some great obvious choices in hear and some well thought out personal favorites spinkled about.
If any ones a must watch top 100 its yours kim.
Wow! An epic video, can't imagine how long it took you to put this together. Love your editing skills, very inspiring! :)
The fact that Phantasy Star IV is this high up on your list is a perfect vindication of your taste in games. Agreed wholeheartedly.
Great video Kim. The skill to make such a mammoth video seem short and undeniably "KIM"! and a lot of games which would make my top 100 being a speccy then mega drive and amiga kid myself. I'd add more driving games maybe micro machines 2, ride racer and wipeout ps1. Also tekken. A few more obscure ones like wiz n liz and fuzzball from the amiga. Speccy I lost a lot of time on footy manager games like football director 2, league challenge, advanced soccer sim, footballer of the year 2 etc.
Fantastic video. Some great memories here and many I have never heard of :)
Easily the best top 100 videogames video on youtube. Sweet nostalgia. So glad you put Bayonetta on the list. Underrated due to reviewers bashing the framerate on certain systems. One of the best gaming experiences out there.
loving this well made video list so far. Kim goes to lengths to not simply post the same lists of games other will, at least so far in the first 40.
Fantastic list! Happy to see you ranked streets of rage 2 so highly
Well done Kim, quite an undertaking this !
I had that VHS tape with Alien 3 (Megadrive) on it, it's one of those things that I had completely forgotten about and wouldn't imagine anyone else remembering,. Insane to hear it mentioned
This is an epic undertaking, congratulations on finishing it :o)
A massive amount of work and bloody well done 😎
Great video ... definitely for fans of video game of a certain vintage. keep up the good work. I will endeavour to try play Metroid on the SNES emulator after watching this video as i'm a great fan of run and shoot platform games with the 'Metal Slug' series being my all-time favourite
Alien 3 on an old magazine videotape? Mean Machines preview VHS wasn't it? that was HUGE for game fans back in the day as the net wasn't a thing.
For people wanting to know search for it on youtube it's been uploaded.
YES! I literally just asked the same question as it brought up an old recollection of watching the same tape as a kid! Nice one!
Wonderful first choice, ah that music is just so emotional
Not a single game from my favorite console of all time: Sega Master System!
The best platformer ever made; Wonderboy 3 :)
An absolutely great console. Golden axe warrior all the way. Zelda rip off yes, but amazing in its own right!
Elevator Action Returns is absolutely amazing !
great list. Yet another epic video from you Kim. Thanks for Sharing with us
I don't feel the need to join many people's Patreon but I do think you deserve my money for the amazing content and commentary you produce
That was awesome! Hour and a half just flew by. How about your bottom 100 games? I'd watch it.
Great list, made me remember some gems from my childhood. But I missed audio snippets, especially when you talk about the good music of a certain game. Is this a copyright thing?
Anyway, gave this one a big, big like.
Game magazine video..lol..omg I had to laugh as it showed my age to remember things like that,,do we even get video game mags anymore,,if I'm lost on a game these days i just RUclips it..lol.tbh I'd forgotten about mag review videos until you said about it I did remember when the PS1 come out you got playable game DVD demos and even back then we thought that was amazing and will always remember playing the Resident evil demo then going straight out to the game shop to buy the full game..lol..love your channel brother..I loved it that you even had some old spectrum games on here too as that always takes me back to being a little kid and getting my speccy 128k on Xmas morning and being so happy and just sitting there for the whole day playing it as the one I got come with loads of games free with it then my older brother and me joined a mail order gaming shop so I ended up with just a butt load of games because we would order them all the time. Oh the good old days of waiting ages for a game to load and then not liking it and having to load another one...lol..on a side note you have alot of my faves on here to..
I love this list. Lots of awesome games here, and I like that it is so different. I also love the Amiga, the Mega Drive and PC. WrestleFest is my favorite arcade as well. My list would be very different of course. Now I need to try Bushido Blade..
this is exceptional - thanks for all your work
Great list, one of the more interesting as it avoids including alot of the obvious titles for stuff that is more true to you as a person. Something many lists lack.
Brilliant video Kim,just brilliant. Thankyou.
Great list Kim, thank you. Some there I am curious enough to try, as I hadn't heard of them before, and others I had forgot about. Any chance of a list of them in written form please, so I don't have to watch the whole video again with a notepad and pen, if that's not too much trouble?
Super video. Really interesting choices. Enjoyed it muchly.
I brought Gain Ground based on your praise for Switch, and I was not disappointed. A classic Sega gem I totally missed back in the day.
Loving your channel Kim, So much fantastic content
Absolute fun to watch! Thanks!
The Moment you put Streets of Rage 2 in your top 10 list I subscribed to your channel!
Really enjoyed that, Kim! Thank you! More please!
Can someone tell me the backing music for the first minute of the video? It’s so familiar but I can’t place it
Awesome, Kim! Thanks for sharing!
You made my top 10 of the best top 100!
Fantastic video! Im not a diehard gamer. For me best games are: half life 2, SOR2, Arkham City, Commando’s, Super Mario 3, Mario Galaxy, Grand Prix 2
What is the computer game music right at the start just after the intro? It’s so familiar to me but I can’t think what it is and it’s driving me mad! Great Video Kim.
Kim, regarding Sonic 2 and the video you're talking about....did it also contain previews of Alien 3, Greendog, and James Pond Aquatic Games amongst others? It's dredging up some half-remembered childhood recollection of having the same tape!
I had that! It came with one of the first issues of Mean Machine Sega I think. That tape got watched a ton in my house.
So refreshing to see a ‘top games’ video actually include classic 80’s home micro games. It often gets overlooked in the gaming world that Britain did not have the NES v Sega situation. We had the ZX Spectrum, C64 & Amstrad CPC battling for space in young gamers bedrooms. I had the Spectrum plus and I adored it. Games like Manic Miner, Exolon, Starstrike 1 & 2, Deathchase, Hyper sports, Bruce Lee, Renegade, Robocop etc I could go on. The Spectrum hooked me into gaming and I have gone through all the gaming gens since then. While most of the world has early gaming memories of Mario & Link, My memories are of Miner Willy, Monty Mole and superb images of Oliver Frey’s Crash Mag covers. All these years later I love Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation, Xbox etc but it’s so important to remember the gaming scene of Britain in the 80’s. Thanks for the great videos. I’ve only recently discovered this channel and it’s great looking through all the videos you have done 👍
Great video (as always) and great list! But no nellyfish games? 😉
A really solid list of games. I think at least 70% of this mirrors my personal Top 100.
awesome vid, lots of unknown gems in there!
This is an absolutely brilliant list and a great video.
Happy New Year Kim 🙂Great video xD
What was the intro/intoriduction music? I seem to remember it being the end music of a game I finished back in the day
It's the intro theme to RoboCop on the ZX Spectrum, by Jonathan Dunn
I enjoyed the video! Have you ever played Wayne Gretzky Hockey on the Amiga. As far as hockey games goes. It was one of the best ever
I like this list for not having the usual big name games
Thankyou for this wonderful journey of many games I know and many I don't..
A brilliant presentation pleasantly spoken and thoroughly enjoyed by me.
Sub'd Subbed instantly..
That was a fantastic video, thanks for making it!
I was not expecting the #1 since you talk so little about the said genre, but I totally agree. Thank you for this, now I'm off to start FF7 once again from the start. This little nudge was really all I needed.
For someone who has such a "soft-spot" for retro games , such as yourself , I was incredibly surprised that you didn't say one good word (*which translates as a "place in the top-100" ) for "Lemmings" !!! what a masterpiece that game was !!!. Anyway , it's your personal top-100 so I can't argue that much.
---P.S. I remember myself back in 1993-94 being a VERY strong "Sensible soccer" player. Recently though , I bought it from GOG and tried to play it again ,when I realised that my "sensible soccer-glory days" are over !! seemed so difficult for some weird reason !!! was I so much more capable when I was a kid ?? lol !! (*nevertheless , incredible soccer game indeed !! )
---P.S. 2 : Thanks for the memories ,back from the good old days !!
Love the list. Loving your channel. Please play ocarina of time thou it’s ridiculous you missed it.
Wow looking forward to an elite documentary if that’s your plan👌🏼
There are already a few videos/documentaries about Elite on RUclips.
Just had a marvelous dream about playing FF7 for the first time in a long while (in reality it has been almost 10 years and now I REALLY want to enjoy it again if I had more free time) and fell totally in love with it again, only to wake up to watch this MARVELOUS Top 100 List. :D
Great list! I agree the GBC's Tetris is my favourite (even though the original DMG's is so good too). Did you know that there's a rom hack you can get the original A song in the GBC version? The crap music is the only down side. Also, have you played Chrono Trigger??
Love this vid! Has anyone compiled the full list to look through anywhere...?
Excellent video as always Kim
No Saboteur, Way of the Exploding Fist, Jet Set Willy, The Last Ninja, Starglider 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2?!
Loved every second of this. Nice one Kim. 😊
I see almost no one talking about Guitaroo Man, and when I mention it to people I know they look at me like I'm crazy. Such a great, quirky, underappreciated PS2 rhythm game. I found it by chance back in the day as it was in a bargain bin and caught my curiosity, and it's been one of my all time favorites since
Breaking out the popcorn for this one. Cheers, Kim!
I love how you used the GameBoy Robocop music in the intro
Speccy version, but yeah
Excellent video, thank you!
I like this channel cuz it doesn’t discriminate between classic n current.. Kim analyzes all titles with a sort of fairness & balance.. Its quite challenging to do these types of best of lists
NIce one, Kim. I love Tetris DX and like you, its the only game I own for the Game Boy Color, lol. 40 Lines FTW!
