"The biggest surprise of the day was the Corvette????" Why is this a surprise? OF course the Corvette is gonna be better. It's a 2 seat; smaller borderline supercar. Comparing these two are apples and oranges. They're not comparable, if anything, it shows how good the GT500 is even getting close to the new Corvette.
Except it didn't get close to the Corvette. There's a 6 MPH difference between them in the slalom. 6 MPH! That's not just a vast chasm of performance differential, that's almost a comical difference in performance.
a six mile per hour difference is NOT that big of a difference. especially not when comparing a super car to a muscle car.
austin goddard In a slalom?! 6 MPH is a MASSIVE, ENORMOUS difference. Usually difference in slalom times are measured in fractions of an MPH. Seriously a 6 MPH difference is like the difference between a car and a bicycle. It showcases just how bad the GT500's handling really is.
Vernon Price
In that test that looks like a big difference. I guess it depends on how you define "handling". A slalom is a certainly a good starting measure, but it certainly is not the only way to depict how a car handles. You also have to consider if that track environment slalom test depicts how a these cars "handle" on the street (since they are street cars and will most definitely not be on the track the majority of the time). I am a regular at LS and the track times for these cars are very very close (under a half second). While obviously the Stingray should handle better and get faster times than a Shelby, the Shelby is not too far behind (1:38.28 vs 1:38.70) which depicts how well thought out the SRA is (probably the best handling SRA there is). So yes the handling of the Stingray is very good, but it wouldn't be fair classifying the Shelby as having shitty or bad handling either.
I think the Stingray is an awesome car..especially since it is in the sports car class and it beats a lot of other Supercars (sport cars) while doing it with a lot less coin. I have driven the car and it is vastly different from the Z06 I have driven before (drove a Z06 at Laguna, but not the Stingray). I can only guess on how it handles on track. I guess the best way I can describe it is if you imagine taking 200 pounds off the front end of a Z06 (if you driven one on track). There is this flighty front end feeling that just goes where you want it (very predictable even when hitting bumps). Anyways...like both cars. If I could I would own both..but I like my backseats and trunk.
It's American muscle you dumb ass handling means shit for all they care it's supposed to sound like the baddest ass car in that town not be abled to make a centimeter better on a turn
Shelby gt 500 is still better 662 hp of badass
Im a mustang guy... But what chevy did to this corvette is just amazing. I mean, the numbers it produces are close to the Nissan GTR (Even better in a few caterories) but yet it only cost around the same as the new GT500. The Shelby is also a monster, and a perfect drag car with that live rear-axle. But the Corvette is a very good all around sports car. Good job chevy, you guys are going in the right direction. Ford was doing very well until that 2015 mustang came out :( Its apparently a beast with lots of handling improvement, more power and everything. But I have trouble getting over the front of the car.... Just my 2 cents, good day!!
ToxicReaper7 but the ford gt I hate because they just left and how people feel about a American car the sound of it I hate is not American and the look is just not like the old one
I'm a corvette guy and I was surprised how good they Shelby was!!!
Bryan eeww
ToxicReaper7 its less expensive csuse it FUCKIN MADE OF PLASTIC
You know what is also amazing the price difference more expensive the more tech and features
I would still pick the Shelby over a Vette any day.
It’s one of those things where they’re two different cars for different purposes. There is some overlap but they’re not the same kind of car. I’m a huge vette and a huge mustang fan
@@backyardboosters9128 my grand sport is a track machine.
@@backyardboosters9128 because a mustang is so much more practical as a: "grocery getter"?? A "family sedan"?
@@brianstough5286 cuz the regular Corvette here is a dime a hundred and will slip into oblivion. The GT500 is 10 times the special machine that the Stingray wishes it could be.
Now the ZR1, that’s a different story.
@@brianstough5286 also, change out the tires to a stickier compound, and lower it even half an inch and the GT500 will put down 1.02 to 1.03g and run the 0-60 and 1/4 at least 0.4s and 0.5s faster at least.
it's so funny how they take top of the line cars to perform against standard vette
STOP - too many haters! Both cars are awesome! The GT500's engine was purposely built: A DOHC with a SC ( Like an American Ferrari F12 Berlinetta! ). Unreal! ONLY weak areas: Brembos, and tires! Swap with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup - fix the brakes and this is a DIFFERENT outcome! Love that car with its ROCKIN solid axle! The Vette has FINALLY morphed into a real sports car that will take on Europe's best, namely Ferrari and Porsche, and it has beat them in essence - in STOCK form - Incredible! ( Need to see a new GT40! ). Proof - See THIS video! 2014 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta vs 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 vs 2013 Porsche 911 C4S! Head 2 Head Ep 42
Perfectly said.
Did it really surprise anyone that the corvette won? No,
Anyone surprised that the mustang beat it in a quarter mile? I sure as hell was, I knew the GT 500 wasn't gonna compete on a track but i figured the corvette would of been faster in general.
The problem with the GT500 is that they up'd the horsepower but didn't mess with the suspension. In turn it makes so much power and yet it just doesn't grip enough to really make any use of the power.
Exactly
Keep in mind that they are comparing a "Base Line" Stingray against a "high end" model mustang. If they went base line to base line the Mustang wouldn't even be in the same league. Simple sad fact is? It takes the Shelby GT500 to even compare to the Base Corvette. Had that Vette been equipped with the Z06 package the story would have been very different. God forbid when they bring back the ZR-1 set up again. That poor Mustang won't even compare.
Christopher Adams
Your missing the point. The Mustang was NEVER the competitor to the corvette.
The corvette has always been faster, but some how the mustang was quicker in a quarter mile.
Competitor from ford against the corvette? Gt 40.
The vette is a sports car and the shelby is a muscle car that is older so of course the ZR-1 or the stingray is going to be faster. That shoes your intelligence.
Timothy Redd
Judging by your name, you must be someone from the south.
"Shelby is a muscle car that is older." What are you TRYING to say?
"That shoes your intelligence?" I just.... Fuck I don't even know what to say.
Shelby by far is better. Smaller motor, better 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I'm sold
The only way it's better is going forward in a straight line. It is worse in literally every single other way. Worse price, braking, handling, chassis, balance, suspension, weight, value, gearing, MPG, technology, design, you name it the GT500 is worse.
And yes it has a smaller motor, with a huge 2.3 liter supercharger attached to it. But don't worry, the Z06 is coming, and it will also beat the GT500 in every single way including straight line speed. Don't forget the Vette in this video is the BASE MODEL.
Did you even watch the video?
Just imagine if the shelby had a 6.0 supercharged, jizzzz
Rafael Ybarra Someone needs a fact book! The shelby has a 5.8 which isnt far off, the Stingray has no supercharger and makes 455 hp but the GT 500 makes 661 hp with a supercharger.
Wasn't referring to the stingray having a supercharger. Open your imagination is what I'm getting at.
The large cross section on the GT500 allows for more air intake and therefore translates to more horsepower. However, the Corvette is designed to produce high speed without the cost of performance. Any engineer can make a fast car, it's keeping it on the track that's the hard part.
I love how Chevy people now compare the Corvette to the Stang...Did you people JUST NOW realize that the Camaro is slow?
Camaro Z/28 is faster around a track than any Ford vehicle in production that are road legal.
MrTheMark21 bullshit a Camaro and the newest shelby gt500 SVT would leave the Camaro in the dust.
codster863 Only in a straight line haha. I said around a track.
Its not a stang, its a shelby, and since ford cant make there own hi powered cars the had to hand the responsibility over to a performance add. God rest Carol Shelby
Eric Klarnet check your facts before you post message the 2013/2014 GT500 is built by ford at its flat rock MI plant by fords SVT division not a thing to do with mr Shelby except his name. As you can see my 2013 Shelby GT500 is in mr Shelbys favorite color fords performance white w/ sonic blue race stripe
The Shelby GT500 has better numbers overall than the corvette stingray and he says that its not a contest, the corvette wins hands down! Okay!!! talk about a biased opinion! My love is with Ford!
This is a new generation corvette compared to an old generation of Shelbys. Wait till the new Mustang comes out with the SVT model next year, then we can do some comparisons.
Mike D ZL1 Camero and the shelby gt500 are perfect bench marks. Though in this comparison its a BASE vette stingray, so next year when Ford comes out with a SVT model it would be a much better challenge to see who comes on top.
Can't wait for the 2015 Z07
The new 2014 corvette is more refined both technologically and by design. The Cobra relates more to the nostalgic beauty of special edition pony cars with a ton more HP than yesteryear. I love them both.
Finally an American car that can go on curves.
Love it.
Well two really different cars, but lets face facts here. Mustang has more horsepower so it won in the drag. But corvette has better brakes, better balance, better suspension, better aerodynamics, better gas milage, and actually can fit a lot in one, I can fit 4 golf bags in the back of my corvette.
You don't buy a corvette for 2 seats and 2 useless seats. You buy it cause you love it. You don't buy a Mustang cause its a 2 seat sports car ready to cut corners with a ferrari. You do it cause you love it. That is all you need to know.
All I see here is:
-GT500 competes neck to neck with brand new corvette
-GT500 has MORE juice than brand new corvette
-Camaro can't even compare with Mustang anymore
-GT500 needs brakes...
-GT500. GT500! GT500!!!!!!!!!!WINS!
All it needs is brake fluid..brakes are perfectly fine.
Yeah, I know. It's the IRS-suspension that's causing the GT500 to be stiffer on corners.
The zl1 is a better track car but let's be honest 99% drive their car on the streets and we all know what happens there
What you see and reality is it completely different. The GT500 Lost the comparison and the GT500 Loses in all CAMARO comparisons to. Are are very Blind and deaf. Show a video where the GT500 comes out on top. Oh wait there is NONE.
Jyan Lan Not in the real world does the GT500 lose.
The GT500 will never have great handling due to its body design, however the last thing you're gonna do is autocross.
The first thing is unleash that supercharged beast!
... until you have to stop, or turn.
Vernon Price well it's really not meant for that sadly. The newest ones perform better at handling
Body design of the mustang? You fucking kids know NOTHING and i mean NOTHING about cars. At least do some research first. The mustang has ANCIENT CHEAP suspension. Thats why it handles like shit. Has NOTHING to do with the body design moron. Ford saves $5,000 on every car with the terrible suspension it uses instead of using modern stuff. 100% fact.
nicetry64 thanks they said it on top gear lol. But i really meant was how the chasis, suspension, solid rear axle, etc. is. I worded that poorly. However I do believe aerodynamics plays an important role in handling and control.
Guitarfollower22 Yeah he's right though. Body design has absolutely nothing to do with the handling.
This test on this day , with these conditions and driver ran the times listed. Saying this , the Shelby GT500 has run quicker and faster 0-60 mph @ 3.5 sec and 1/4mile 11.6@126 mph . Also it handles well for its weight .
I love this series of comparisons, really cool! You do so much for gear heads like me! Cheers
Please, there's no comparison between the two, compare the mustang to a camaro, A MUSTANG WILL NEVER BE BETTER THAN A CORVETTE!
Yeah, Ford should simply come out with a new Gt40, quit fuckin around with Mustangs. But I'm sure Corvette fanboys would be upset with that.
A Z06 would take care of that mustang. Ford needs to bring back the gt40 if it ever hopes to compete with corvettes!
Keep telling yourself that until u believe it
Lets compare like prices.... Put a Shelby Super Snake on the Vette...... Let the crying ensue.
Alessia Aikley
Hahaha
OK, yea it's true, the mustang is faster on a straight line and it should, it has over 200 plus hp more than the Corvette. BUT, even with that hp advantage, the corvette will wipe the floor with the mustang on the track, why???
You guys at Edmunds are really incredible... You are either so in love with the new Corvette or you were payed to "perform" the review and pronounce (the comments are really something) the winner (Corvette) in comparison tests with practically every car (BMW M3, Nissan GT-R...). It seems there is no better car on this Earth. As said on previous comments, check the numbers on other reviews for the 2013 GT500 (0-60:3,5 s, 1/4 mile:11,6s at 125.7 mph). Don't get me wrong, i like the Corvette (my dream car is the Z06), but this is really too much, you're practically kissing the Chevrolet's a... And for what, you're losing your good name. Give me a break
Zeljko Vukoja To be a fair comparison it should be the x06 with 650 hp against the Shelby both are similar power and then the vette stomps the Shelby and I love both cars
two different types of cars
RUclips, where everyone's an engineer.
2015 Ford Mustang
In terms of performance, the Mustang GT will still offer the 5.0-liter V8, and the article reads that the 2015 GT with the Performance package will actually be faster on the track than the Boss 302. Some other interesting tidbits about the new Mustang are the standard push-button starter, the availability of adaptive cruise control, an independent rear suspension, a 200-pound weight reduction (that at least somewhat will be afforded by using aluminum front fenders) and a wheelbase that measures the same 107.1 inches as the current design.
I'm a drag strip guy. I'll invest on a GT500. Fuck tracks. Real world driving involves straight lines. I rather have the faster. Ford always wins. Easy
you must be one of those assholes always weaving around the road thinking you're a racing driver...
Real world driving? So every road in the real world is straight? Please do tell us what planet you're living on.
Vernon Price Cubanus.
Brian Fantana .2 w/ crap tires. I know that car has run another .3 faster in 0-60. You get all your info from RUclips videos?
The GT500 is not the base mustang. The corvette is the base model. That was to be expected. Base model vs base model, the vette will take the mustangs paint with it when it leaves the starting line. I would take the vette b/c its a better all around car than any model of Mustang, always was and always will be
12.1 and only 120mph trap speed out of that GT500? Whoever was driving sucks. Those are worse than times put up by average drivers. That's an 11.5 car on stock tires. 0-60 in 3.5 to 3.6 seconds.
I am 60, freshly divorced, just finished my 3000 minute tanning program, my hair plugs aren't in but on their way, I over spent at the pawn shop but I got most of the Mr.T reject pile, my pants are tight. my jet boots are shined up now all I need is the best of all cars to get a new woman........ bring on the CORVETTE!!!!!
I assume all of this is sarcasm.
and thats real shit
what I have said is all sarcasm....... as far as a car with high horsepower great handling and amazing braking and best bang for the buck I will say the corvette is nice and comfortable at number 1........ where I live it is very common to see such a character as I described to be seen driving a vette there is no point really talking to such an individual as I find that yes they have a great car but they act as if the car has put them to the top level in society and maybe it has, but an attitude like this is expected from Simon Cowell with his Bugatti, now I don't wish people to think I am pigeon holing all vette owners....... just some:) even though I totally respect the Corvette I own a Mustang for some stupid reason I like to be the under dog
and hey who knows maybe I will own a vette one day........
Edmunds is one of the last groups I would trust for a ligit car test.
agreed. I love the plethora of platforms we have to choose from as these muscle car wars keep stretching out year after year. As a muscle car enthusiast. It makes me rather happy.
Ok my Gt500 does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds stock
I've had my gt500 cobra go 0 to 60 in 3.06 seconds stock. Mine is a chevy killing machine because no chevy can beat 3.06 seconds.
Logan Brooks The Corvette Z06 does the 1/4 mile in 10.4 @ 132. Good luck beating that in a mustang.
There's the new super snake that's going to be running 850hp so we'll see how the Hellcat and zo6 keeps up...
Yeah I know that I'm going to put that package on my Shelby here soon.
That or the Shelby 1000 package
How are these cars being compared? 200hp difference?
because the Vette is a lot lighter and has better tech. in terms of tech and weight, the Mustang is the equivalent of a barbarian.
Blind Side
believe it or not, there is only approximately 370lbs difference between these two cars. Yes, that is still a considerable amount, but not nearly as much as most people think. It's really the technology and inherent chassis and suspension that make the C7 a much better handling car.
BEBNC1
gotcha! since the 'vette (with 200 less hp) is being compared to the mustang doesnt that make it the winner right out of the gate? Any car that can come into a comparison with just about 2/3 the hp is a winner in my eyes
BEBNC1 yeah, but that's enough. The mustang's heavier weight and the fact it still has a live rear axle means it just can't control it's power as effectively as the Vette can. In my opinion, the Vette is much better engineered.
Blind Side
That was my point. Even though the cars are closer in weight than most think, the vette's superior engineering make it look like there is a 1000lb difference between the two.
Obviously the the corvette is going to beat the Shelby in track tests, its a fucking track car...and the 2014 and under mustangs (except for the Boss mustangs) are muscle, drag, cars.
The gt-500 has horrible traction from a dead stop.
even at a fully prepped 1/4 drag strip the 662HP destroys the tires.
Yet it has a fast 1/4 mile and 0-60 time
Stephen Bagnell
The 3.31 gearing really helps with that. The 2012 GT500 had hookup problems with the 3.73s.... bad.
BEBNC1 The 2013 gt-500 has some serious traction, braking, suspension, and stability issues.
motor trend had a gt-500 @ willowsprings and 1/2 a lap in, the brakes melted.
The Drive channel melted the brakes within 15min of driving.
GT-500 has 2 much power for its current platform.
Stephen Bagnell
I completely agree with you. I was just saying that it is better than the previous years. That tall gear helps with that somewhat. Yes, the inherent Mustang platform does not make for a great track car.
I like the look of the corvette but I must admit the 2015 mustang is a beautiful car. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Stingray. Its just a work of art. You could end up with either car and still win.
With launch control you get 3.5 seconds. Did they not turn it on?
Yeah, yeah, yeah...but who wants a Mustang when they can have a Corvette?
Corvette is a piece bro
Gt500: Sports Car
Stingray: Racecar
Gt500 still gapped tho
Youre gonna be driving these cars on city streets accelerating between traffic lights 99.999% of the time in a straight line. Where the mustang wins! And is cheaper!
lets play spot the fanboy
I love both cars, but really for the power to price ratio, nothing really beats a gt500.
Sam Sereda Unless you enjoy doing anything other than driving in a straight line. Like braking well, or handling, or balance.
The GT500 isn't cheaper. This is the base C7 which is cheaper by more than 2k msrp.
Vernon Price ugh the mustang doenst brake much worst anyways, and only handles slightly worse.
And yeah, when you actually going to test the handling? Pretty much never because youll be driving on city roads pretty much only enjoying acceleration!
Gt500's I just saw for about
$60,000 CDN brand new. I haven't checked corvettes recently but I remember them being around $80,000 CDN going into the 100,000's for those supercharged models...
I still love the C7 Corvette from 2007,i want one like i had in Midnight Club LA...it was beautiful.
Hi guys, i m from switzerland and a proud owner of a 2013 gt500. We dont have so much straight lines like in the usa, most of the time i m racing in the alps ,up the mountains. Never got beaten by any car...thats why i m racing against bikes now. The gt500 handles superb, if u know how to drive. No flat out in corners like in a gtr. No noob-car. U HAVE to know how to drive in this or u get hurt. My opinion : every car is good as its driver. 70% driver 30% car. Shelby 100% emotions!!!
Comparing apples to oranges again. I hope to see the day Ford produces a well thought out high production number sports car so people will stop comparing Mustangs to Corvettes.
They did, the ford gt
Bob Cloney " high production number sports car ," The GT was not.
gt350r is here now
Why do they even compare the Mustangs against the basically now a days a supercar Corvette's?? Gt500's should be compared to the Camero's like the z28 or the ZL1. GT40 was and will be again in the same category as the newer Vette's. GT500 and Camero's are muscle cars, Vette's/Viper's are more of the supercars.
Robby Hughes Because the Stingray is cheaper than the GT500.
Mindless Chevy vs Ford keyboard warriors are hilarious. I'll just happily trot around in my 2014 Mustang GT and not give a fuck if a corvette can beat me or not. There is someone out there who will always have a better car than you. Get over it.
Corvette has always been Americas premiere racing brand. You just heard it yourself. GM keeps on making this car better and better! Zr1, if done with this gen, will be phenonmenal.
it really depends on what your doing with it to decide which one you need. if your doing straight aways id take the gt500. street racing id take the vette. the shelby is a faster car but doesn't handle swell due to the fact that they build on a scale for which the vehicle can be used as an everyday driver and be able to act like a sedan while being as fast as a arc car where as the corvette is built to be specifically a race car.
Ford Rules!!!
Fix Or Repair Daily!!
frios011 Cheap Heap Every Valve Rusts Or Leaks Every Time... Sorry I like both Chevy and Ford...mostly Ford cuz they come out with stuff first and usually other companys copy them. I'm just sick of everyone saying Found On Road Dead or Fix Or Repair Daily. So I just had to get back at Chevy fan boys whenever they say that...
TheIndiDUDE How about First On Race Day!
I travel along the Interstate all of time, and believe it, or not...the only cars I see broken down on the side of the roads are Chevys, Dodges, and foreign cars. I have a 04 Mercury Sable, and it's been running strong without repairs for more than 3 yrs. straight now.
You do know Mercury is made by Ford
OK.... the Corvette is a good handler in slalom, G-skidpad.... fine. Exactly how often is a normal Corvette owner going run around a circuit doing G-skidpad and slalom.... Everyday driving is about how fast you can get from A to B.... and obviously that's where the GT500 struts its stuff.... The Shelby GT500 is a 4 pax coupe whilst Corvette is a 2-seater quasi-racing machine.... and whatever things it does do better come at a higher price... However should be interesting when the next generation of GT500 rolls off the production line complete with independent rear suspension which admittedly has been a problem.... a 5.8 supercharged 2015+ GT500 vs Corvette.... Personally, I don't care about this competition any more.... I'm a senior citizen now and I love my 2012 GT500 w/SVT and it runs plenty fast enough for me.... I'm not into slaloms and G-skidpads..... but a little blast from the past from here to there is good for the heart....
The Corvette does EVERYTHING better than the GT500, except straight line speed. And it's not like the Corvette is slow, either. And last time I checked, in the real world, A to B has corners, turns, stops and starts. And the C7 also costs less than the GT500, so I'm not sure why you think anything comes at a higher price with the C7.
You don't have to be into slaloms, better handling affects you any time you take a corner at any speed. Any time you turn the steering wheel. Not to mention better balance, better braking, lighter weight... you know, you really need to just go drive a C7 so you can experience the differences for yourself.
Vernon Price So you say.... that's an opinion.... but GT500s sell off the lot faster than Ford can get them off the truck. I've always been a GM man.... owned '67 SS396, '86 Z-28, '89 IROC-Z (then they got ugly) '05 Mustang GT, '08 Mustang Bullitt.... now a '12 GT500..... would never even consider a GM after their being bailed out by Obama in '08/'09.... and all their recalls....where else have they scrimped. Be happy with your Corvette.... I'm very happy with my GT500....
Matti Mesikämmen It's an opinion based on fact. Did you even watch this video? The C7 SLAUGHTERED the GT500 at anything other than straight line speed. I mean it's not even close.
And what does how fast they sell have anything to do with anything? 2015 Corvettes are restrained, people have been waiting 7 months for them, so if you want to talk about sales, the C7 is completely dominating in nth sales and demand. Over 30,000 C7s sold last year, how many GT500s? I'm guessing not even 1/10th as many.
It's too bad you're so close minded, because the C7 is a better car than the GT500, by all accounts and by all measurements other than straight line speed, although since yours is a '12 not a '13 the C7 is probably faster than yours too.
The C7 being a better car is not my opinion. it's a fact, and it's borne out by mountains of evidence. Watch this video again if you have to.
Vernon Price Slaughtered .... wow...I told you my reasons for preferring Ford over GM.... it's non-negotiable... Yes the 2014 Corvette is one of the nicest I've seen since the 67 models went the way of the gooney bird.... What do you want from me??...... Do you get wood if your Corvette is as quick as it is.... exactly how quick do we need to go on the road? I have enough RWHP as is....I turned left onto the main artery right where I live this morning.... gave it a shot and nearly lost the ass end.... Want to race around the streets... not going to happen with me .....I'll really lose my night's sleep knowing that the 2014 Corvette "slaughters".....GT500s.... woe is me..... Use both hands on the wheel.... Maybe Corvette should come out with a new model.... called the 'Woody'.....
Matti Mesikämmen Nobody cares about your opinion, what I'm giving you are FACTS. Facts are not negotiable.
All you can do is talk about straight line speed with your GT500. Haven't you been paying attention at all? You said you nearly lost the ass end, do you think that would happen in the Corvette?
You are obviously butthurt about this, but facts are facts. The GT500 handles like shit and does everything else like shit too, except go fast in a straight line which you apparently can't do because you lose the ass end.
The C7 does all of that better than the GT500, other than acceleration in a straight line and top speed. If you would stop sucking the GT500's dick for 5 seconds and look around, you might be able to see what I'm talking about. The GT500 sucks to drive because it's wallowy, it's unbalanced and it has no finesse.
mustang dominated on what it was designed to do. I keep seeing comments about technology and design, but no one pointing out the mustang isn't even a sports car.
what would you consider it?
My two favorite cars so I'm not gonna hate on either, both are badass, would love to own both.
You have to remember this is a base model c7. They haven't come out with the zo6 or zr1 versions yet. As for the Mustang, this is as good as it gets. I'd like to see this gt500 vs a c7 zr1 when the time comes.
Mustang is such a nicer automobile! Just a meaner looking car!
If you can't get this mustang down the quarter in less than 12 seconds, you don't fucking know how to drive,PERIOD!!!!
I know right
662 horsepower at the crank that bad ass Mustang has about 600 horsepower and 600 foot pounds of torque at the wheels furthermore it's f****** weighs about six to seven hundred pounds lighter than the Hellcats easily 10 second car with slicks and easily and 11 second car with any any kind of f****** tires and any f****** driver that knows what the f*** he's doing.
Its like comparing a hammer with a sword.
Very true man the corvette is thin and sleek meant for sports racing and the shelby is just a stone cold muscle killer meant for drag racing.
BOTH are amazing cars and better than what 99 percent of us will ever own. I have sold and driven both... and BOTH are great at what they are built to do. I would buy either if I had the scratch!
great video, yall were not really comparing the two saying which is better for one reason or the other. glad somebody can see the two cars are in different leagues
Again, two different leagues???? is the mustang really any better at getting groceries or picking up the kids??
@@brianstough5286 again? This comment is 8 years old. I'll help you out though. Mustang is much better at picking up the kids ( it's got a back seat ) and the rear seats fold down so it can hold more groceries but that's a win for both. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk
If the GT-500 blew the Corvette in the dust, why didn't they show it doing it ?...could it be because it didn't happen ?
+I dont even know
Da Nial isn't that a river in Egypt ?
+I dont even know
Lighten up dude. I was just fuckin with ya.
This is a ridiculous comparison. Totally different classes of cars. Next we compare the off road capabilities of the Honda CRV vs the Ford Raptor.
Good grief the GT500 is ugly.
You're stupid and with no taste
Agreed, its ugly.
You obviously don't know a muscle car when you see one
Yeah the gt500 is awesome
Hm. The GT500 is actually looks amazing. You must be European or something and not used to the look of American muscle.
picking up my 2014 stingray from toys r us tomorrow. It will run on 4 AAA batteries and remote controlled. i also have an Eleanor 68' fastback. I will be making comparison videos in the near future.
you should compare a civic and an f150 next, since they are about as similar
mustang way nicer
zayan brooks By which you mean much worse, right? Much shittier interior, much worse handling, braking and almost literally everything else, much worse looking, much worse quality,
+Vernon Price i don't know why you're trashing the mustang, worse looking? shittier interior? i dnt remember the camaro having a good interior over the mustang. current gen camaro had hard plastic interiors, the last gen mustang had soft touch dashboard unlike the camaro hard plastic all around and oh yeah the last gen corvette had also a shittier interior than the new ones, i remember jeremy clarckson said that the 2013 GT500 he test drove "it looks good" and richard hammond on the last gen corvette's interior ''this plastics, where are they getting this?''
Kyle Justin We're talking about the Corvette, not the Camaro, and if this is even a question for you at all then you've never seen the inside of a C7. And yes the last gen Corvette's interior was worse than the current gen, but that's why we're having this discussion about the current gen. Because it's a lot better than it used to be, AND it's a lot better than the Mustang inside.
So I'm not sure why you keep bringing up the C6 Corvette and the Camaro when we're not talking about either of those cars. Maybe try to stay on topic a little harder?
Vernon Price alright then, why are you trashing the mustang? what's the history between you and a mustang? because everytime someone comments about the car you bash it, you talk all negative things on and praising a corvette, we all agree that the corvette is the more superior car because simply its a real sports car, the mustang especially the GT500 is a pure muscle car, what do you expect a muscle car to be? a sports car wannabe? hell no they are entirely different class both have pros and cons and yet you still trash the mustang. Its a Mustang not a porsche 911
Kyle Justin Because I've seen one? What you're calling "bashing" I'm calling "accurate observations". And if you were paying attention, you would have noticed that my first comment in this thread was responding to the OP who said "mustang way nicer".
Which of course it isn't.
And that's where you jumped in, talking about the Camaro.
The Corvette has the handling and looks of a supercar, but it doesn't have the horsepower. The GT500 has the handling and looks also, but has a little more horsepower than the modern supercar.
GT500: 5.8L Supercharged V8, 662 hp
Stingray: 6.2L V8, Around 450 hp
Gallardo: 5.2L V10, 560 hp
458 Italia: 4.5L V8, 562 hp
I'm a mustang fan, but realistically, unless I'm spend every second on a drag strip, the corvette is a faster and safer car to "drive" on a real road. But for now I'm sticking to my motorcycles... Great Video!
If you are actually going to a track for the purpose of a fast lap time.. buy the vette. If you want a high hp daily.. buy the Shelby. Thats how it has always been people. Its not like you'd be unhappy with either. Both are American icons and performance steals.
If you had to ask me to pick one I would chose the Mustang for personal reasons. The 2013 Shelby gt500 with that 662hp, 631 lb-ft engine motortrend says will do 11.6 in the quarter is the very last shelby Carrol Shelby approved/saw before he passed away in 2012. That, in itself, is worth more than both these cars to me. He was a great man who did great things throughout his entire life.
Apples to oranges here folks. Wish Ford still made the GT. So we'd have something with the same weight and layout. The Mustangs number are still very impressive for the type of car it is.
Mustang's biggest disadvantage is its height, putting a lot of mass in the air. If it was belt-buckle height like the Vette, even without making any changes to the chassis, its track numbers would improve. But then it wouldn't be so appealing for everyday use.
I never said they were the main problems, but I was pointing out vehicle characteristics matter. Shorter gearing would make traction suffer early on (affecting 0-60 times) but the 1/4 mile would undoubtedly improve. Suspension system and suspension tuning can make a huge difference. As I said before, it's comparing apples to oranges and the fact that the GT500 is even put up against the C7 (in a higher class altogether) is impressive.
@Pat C - Why would they need to lower the price? You are getting 2 extra seats, a trunk, and a stronger motor:)
I own a GT500, while being a great car I have to admit, the new C7 is an amazing machine, I drove it and will be going for a 2015 C7, amazing handling, killer looks outside and in and just a blast to drive, just waiting for pricing on the 2015 Z07 to come out to finalize which one I get. That said I am sure the next gen mustang is going to be tremendous.
Amen!
I was kinda on the attack for the last few days when I saw so many saying: "GT-R is faster in slalom, GT500 has better 0-60 or it looks like a Camaro", I see such one line comments littering those videos and sometimes I go on a long rant after :)
I see you know what's good when you see it, so excuse me if I was rude to you before....
Since I’ve been 13 years old my dream car has been the 2013 GT500
Exactly. The GT500 has 200 more horsepower but isn't faster around a track. The point is that Chevy wanted to prioritize refining the handling of the car, and they nailed it.
Yeah, and I never argued that. The GT500 is awesome on the strip and is a great-looking car.
To this day, I still don't understand what would make anyone with a brain, & basic knowledge of performance cars compare a pure sports car, to a muscle car..I will never understand people. Ever.
And it's not like the Shelby is a basic Mustang compare to this basic Corvette . Can't wait to see what the z06 does
And that's just the base corvette, can't wait to see what the z06 can do!
He said, "There's really no competition at all between these two cars." So why'd you put them together? Mustang was meant to go against a Camaro.
The mustang and stingray are in different categories of the racing spectrum so it does not make sense to me why you would compare these to
Yes!
HP Tuners ECU software gave my SS add'l power + LT headers and SLP exhaust I got ~325RWHP now, of course I'm nowhere near what this Corvette could gain though the same process, many shops really do wonders with a simple handheld and high-octane fuel, I agree.
Hey, glad we CAN agree on something finally, though I'm not sure why we argued in the first place, we both seem to like the C7, more or less :D
I can't believe a semi affordable family car can even come close to a dedicated sports car like the corvette. Good job Ford from a chevy guy. Truly impressive.
the shelby gt 500 is not a semi affordable family car lol. the mustang is sure, but the shelby is a mustang in looks only. totally redesigned. at around 60k the shelby is pricey, but its a muscle car like no other.
These can hang with the VIPER!!!!
1997 Viper GTS:
0-60 in 4.0s
12.2 @ 119
73.6mph slalom
1.01 skidpad
The new corvette is simply awsome . On that note these guys dont know how to drive the gt500. The 0-60 time is 3.5 sec not 4.1. The quarter mile is in the 11 sec rang not 12. Look it up for yourself. These are motor trends numbers . Now this was not that far of a compareson ether. The corvette is much lighter then the gt500 nd has IRS rear suspension. The mustang is a pony/muscle car. The corvette is a true sports car and it shows.
i was surprised that the C7 pulled more than a G. Im all for the Stang but that Vette is amazing
I own a 13' gt500 and sold a 11' z06 for it, they both had ups and downs, and to pick one that is better is to difficult....it comes down to if your a ford or chevy guy and if you like straight line, highway driving or twisties and autocrossing....i love the highway runs and 1/4 mile, which is why i bought the gt500
I trust what I see at open track events, what I experience with my own car while driving it, and what other drivers of ZL1s/GT500s tell me what they experience. I am pretty sure I would side on that as compared what is posted on the internet.
corvette fan here. why does no one consistently see the sub 4 sec. 0-60 that they claim for it? if that was the case wouldnt it have beaten the gt500 all the way around?
Both are beautiful fast machines but the Shelby is just a special one!
All you need on a mustang is a good suspension system and it will match almost anything on a track, within it's class of course.
They obviously decided to refine the handling and design of the car overall because they knew that the "base" model didn't need a lot more power to outperform it's competitors at that price point, and they were exactly right. You seem to forget that there are still 2 more powerful models coming.
They're both great cars, but are in completely different classes. The Mustang isn't a sports car, it's a muscle car. It has a back seat and is a 1/4 mile superstar. The Corvette is a 2-seat track start with all-around great performance. They are both American-made and performance bargains. I have kids, so I needed a back seat. That's why I have a GT500. Once they go off to college, I'm going to get a Z06-- but I'm keeping my GT500. Forever.
0:58 ... but didn't the gt just beat the vette in both 0-60 tests right before he said that?
That rear suspension lets it down the GT500. New one has an different rear suspension. Could be interesting to redo and ZO6
Ford does have a purpose built track car called the GTR-1 by Galpin Ford
It all depends on what you want. Why buy another vehicle if you can have one vehicle that will fit the extra passengers as well?
Of course the vette out handles and out brakes the shelby, its a sports car. the gt500 has 600lbs or so on the vette. They are very different cars, the gt500 is more a boulevarder and stoplight to stoplight beast.
Thanks. You proved my point. There is no substitute for cubic inches. The more displacement you have the more torque you have. @ 325lb/ft of torque form a small 3.8 liter which = 85 lb/ft per liter with no turbos or supercharger is pretty damned good. Now if the 6.2 liter made the same torque per liter it would = 527lb/ft. 475hp from a 3.8 liter which = 125hp per liter is without a doubt is "bad ass" If the C7 engine produced the same HP per liter it would be 772hp.
The 5.0-liter V8 powers into a new generation with a host of upgrades that enable it to breathe better, especially at higher engine speeds. Many of these changes are derived from the lessons learned in developing the special edition 2013 Mustang Boss 302.
Getting air into the cylinders and exhaust out is the key to generating more power and torque from any engine, and that has been the focus of development on the V8, which features:
Larger intake valves
Larger exhaust valves
Revised intake camshafts
Revised exhaust camshafts
Stiffer valve springs - ensures that the valves close completely at high rpm
New cylinder-head casting - revised ports that provide a straighter path to the valves for less-restrictive intake and exhaust flow; combustion chamber modifications accommodate larger valves
Sinter forged connecting rods - lighter and more durable for high-rpm operation
Redesigned piston tops - deeper cutouts clear the new larger valves
Rebalanced forged crankshaft - supports higher-rpm operation
These upgrades are projected to generate more than 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque.
A new intake manifold includes charge motion control valves to partially close off port flow at lower engine speeds. This increases the air charge tumble and swirl for improved air-fuel mixing. This results in better fuel economy, idle stability and lower emissions.
The variable camshaft timing on the intake side now has a greater range of adjustment available thanks to mid-lock phasers. This enables better optimized control of the valve timing over a broader range of engine speeds and loads for improved fuel economy and emissions.
2015 Mustang Transmissions:
More than most drivers, Mustang owners like to take control and shift for themselves. Whether they select a fully manual gearbox or the updated automatic transmission, the experience will be better than in any previous pony.
The Getrag manual has a new shift linkage design for shorter throws and improved precision. The shift lever is now positioned closer to the driver and away from the cup-holders so the driver has a clear path for shifting.
Mustang blends outstanding all-around performance and everyday usability. Drivers who prefer to let the car handle the shifting during their daily work run, but still want to take control when the roads get twisty, will appreciate the new steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles with rev-matching downshifts that are now standard with the Select-Shift six-speed automatic transmission.
The automatic also features a redesigned case with cast-in ribs that help make it stiffer and reduce the weight. Internally clutches have been optimized and operating temperature has been increased to reduce friction. The output shaft is now supported by a ball-bearing that enables a top speed of 155 mph for Mustang GT.
With a choice of powertrains to match driving styles and lifestyles, the new Mustang has contemporary technology under the hood to match its modern design and remain quintessentially Mustang.

As a mustang owner, fan and prior corvette owner.... I agree
To be fair, mustang was designed to compete with the Camaro; it can't help when reviewers compare the two.
Wow, the Mustang got the Vette in acceleration! Nice!
Its called weight and tires my friend. The pony has small tires, more weight and alot more horsepower making it hard to launch. Im a pretty big mustang fan but the chevy clearly wins this competition. I still wish I could get a taste of what 668hp would feel like. Must be AWSOME!!!!
