Back in the early 90's, a buddy of mine grabbed an 87 RX-7 Turbo. I still remember being in the passenger seat as the thing accelerated sliding from side to side through what felt like 3rd gear. Just a beast of a machine that did 0-60 in the low 6's with a 1.3L Wankel engine. A "dry" NOS system is never a good idea. N20 as the name suggests, supplys the engine with 2x the oxygen, hence the rev rise. The same effect can be acheived simply by leaning the engine right out. As a rotary guy this thing was machined like poop. Pull it apart and lap the irons and check the rotors. If you need to take anything off the rotor to refine it make sure you take the same off the housing to that rotor. You shouldn't need to but these are far from the kinda poop os engines of days past. Try this and I bet it starts alot easier and runs better. As for power intake and exhaust set up are everything to a rotary along with ports. The ports iv seen are pretty ragged in my opinion and the timing is kinda out there but the size is embarrassing. I'd say you can double the power with a proper d port and smoothing more with a bigger set of carbs and dialing in the runner length for the intake and exhaust as well as finding the right megaphone angle and length of the end of the collector. Rotarys are kinda special in this way the little things are huge and getting everything set up to resonate at the same rpm rang is too. But seriously take a look at port timing of any other rotary and youl see quickly how wild their timing is. And yes even the cr700 high revving two rotor Nortons dont have port timing anything like these. These shorten the power stroke and compression stroke pretty bad and past the point of needing it for more rpm while the high vac side isnt opening until its starting compression. And this is ignoring the horrible sealing job they did. Long time rotor head with many rx7s and lots of motor builds under my belt and even a pet project trying to make a tiny 4 rotor diesel for a motorcycle that iv been working on since hs so a good 14 yrs now.
