    Hi there.
    Thanks for this. I've been playing with this feature myself and found it really useful. I use the 'transition record function,' combined with 'transition wait,' to rack focus without touching the camera.
    It took me a while to realise that this only works if you initiate recording with the red video button! Normally I use the shutter button to start recording.
    The procedure I use is as follows:
    Set desired speed.
    Set first focus position (Pos 1)as your start focus.
    Set second focus position (Pos 2) as your end focus.
    Set 'Focus Transition Record to Pos 2.
    Set 'Focus Transition Wait' to desired time. ( Panasonic please allow us to set a user defined time!)
    Press 'Start'
    Select Pos 1 to send focus there.
    Press red video button.
    After selected time focus will pull to pos 2. without touching the touch screen or any buttons.
    Cheers and thanks again.
    Martin.

      TLDR Filmmaker yeah this would definitely make this feature incredible. I don’t know why they didn’t put it onto the smartphone app tbh. But I’m very happy that this feature is here, especially helpful with documentary filmmaking where I really can’t be bothered to be using a manual lens when out on the field but don’t want to fully rely on auto, I can still get some artistic shots using this feature!

    I see you're answering your comments, so I'll try my luck.
    I am using my gh5 camera to film lessons, so it's always static, always stays exactly in the same place, and my position in the video is also always the same. So what I need is to set up the correct focus distance once and for all.
    The problem is, it keeps switching back to default everytime I switch the camera on or off. And I always have to set up the focus again.
    I use manual focus instead of autofocus, because autofocus can switch to other objects, and I need static focus during my videos.
    On my previous sony camera "focus distance" was a number setting, so I could remember I'd always use 1.3m focus distance, for example, and even if I change the position of the camera temporarily, it's easy to go back to it. I can't find the same setting in Panasonic GH5 camera.
    Focus transition was the closest thing I've found to it, but for some reason it's erasing my focus setting on the shutdown. It also doesn't remember the exact focus POS1,POS2 and POS3 when I save settings to custom settings (C1,C2,C3-1,C3-2,C3-3).
    Maybe you could help?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  7 месяцев назад

      Hey hey!
      Yup I do try to keep up with all the comments, so you're in luck!
      So I just did a quick test on my gh5. It does maintain the focus distance I last set when I turn off my camera. However it does reset the focus distance if I take the battery out, which makes sense. So if you are taking the battery out to charge after filming, thats probably whats reseting your focus distance.
      In which case I would suggest you find a "AC power" solution where you plug a dummy battery into your GH5 and it can have power forever as long as the AC is never unplugged. Otherwise, you can always connect your smartphone to the GH5 and quickly perform a single AF while you are standing in the shot and also hit the record button from your smartphone.
      Focus transition is for pulling focus from point A to point B. It is not used for maintaining a focus point when the camera is turned off.
      Hope this helps!

      No way!! I just looked on amazon, did you get the ones more for timelapse that have the directional buttons? I would guess so, I saw some wireless ones that I wonder if they will work as well... this is huge, I would have never thought to use a remote control as I thought you could only just activate the shutter.
      If the wireless one works...oh man! Thank you so much for bringing this to the communities attention! If the timelapse one works, and the wireless, I will definitely make a video to talk about it. All credit goes to you my friend!

    • @alpinewonders
      @alpinewonders 5 лет назад

      @@TLDR_filmmaker ah you mean all three points instead of just two? Yes it can`t do that. But it will at least go between two points without touching the camera. That`s enough for me, though judging by your fighting scene I imagine you have more demanding requirements

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  5 лет назад +1

      Ah ok, so once you're recording inside the Transition screen, each time you hit that shutter button it will just bounce between POS 1 and POS 2. For most cases I'd agree with you, the two positions is more than enough. The fight scenes we manually pull focus because when you're in the focus transition screen you can't override the focus positions temporarily and then bounce back to a POS setting.
      Thank you so much for the clarification on which one worked for you and how many POS points I can hit! I'm definitely getting on to test and review, all credit goes to you for this discovery my friend!

    also good would be a simple return to start focus position.
    If I`ve programmed 10 second delay, I don`t want to have to wait 10 seconds before it makes the move back. Of course I could always quickly turn off the delay, but it`s more fiddly inputting. Then I`d have to turn the delay on again to start the move proper.

      Yeah, as far as color science for video goes, I think Fuji's ahead of the curve from everyone else (including Canon). That Eterna mode is *gorgeous* for video/filmmaking. Their latest video spec upgrades for the X-T3 are pretty baller as a whole and it makes me excited to see those features eventually make their way into the inevitable X-H2 whenever that gets announced.

      Greetings Alpine Wonders!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      No, if you're on a slider or jib it will not confuse the camera as you move, it only remembers what distance it has to pull focus to. That being said, make sure you move the camera to the spot where the focus shifts so that if the camera travels forwards or backwards that the focus points are set correctly.

      You're most welcome! Hmm the 35-100mm should work, perhaps see if theres a firmware upgrade for the lens on panasonics website. No, speedboosters are for adapting lenses from other systems like Canon EF, you can not use Micro Four Third lenses on a booster because
      - Your lens mount wont match to the booster
      - your lens will technically never be able to focus
      - your video will just be a circle because you are shrinking the lens image.
