  • This weeks video I’ll be working out in the yard to get lots of flowers planted in the front yard and do some clean up in the backyard.
I tried to plant some flowers on the side of the house but the animals destroyed that 🤦‍♀️

Hi, Jodi! Cardinals are angels from Heaven! Whenever you see one they come to let you know someone in Heaven is thinking of you! I love my cardinals! I say they’re my late boyfriend who comes to me to let me know he’s here with me! I look for them always. I even collect anything with cardinals and bird statues. Great garden! Butterflies are angels too! You are so lucky to have the outdoor animals and birds coming to your yard! Hugs to all! Your southern neighbor!🦋🦋🦋🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🌹🌹🌹🥰💜

I just recalled a funny chipmunk story. My son made a bird feeder from a soda bottle in preK. We had it on the deck filled with sunflower seeds. I saw something in it. We walked out and a chipmunk was inside the bottle with cheeks full of sunflower seeds to the point that it couldn't get out of the bottle. When we picked up the bottle he got scared and spit out the seeds as fast as he could to escape. It was hysterical like something Chip and Dale would have done.

I grew sunflowers a few years ago from seeds (grown inside until they were bigger.) When my dad came and planted them outside for me, they lasted 3 days before animals ate them. I was SO SAD! I took all that time being excited and successful growing something, and then days, animals just make them disappear. 😢
I love seeing all the work you're doing with flowers and the birds and butterflies you see. I look forward to seeing a new video from you in my feed. Thank you!! 😊

My FIL has the funniest contraption to tease the squirrels up at his cottage. It is a wheel with 4 spikes on it, and he puts dried ears of corn on each spikes. When a squirrel tried to get the corn it spins because of their weight and they can get flung off if they persist … but it stopped them from being so interested in the bird feeders. They spend hours trying to figure out how to get the corn. It’s pretty funny. I thought it was mean until I started putting my own birdseed out and the neighbourhood squirrels ate it all in record time. Since the seed was not cheap, I got why he wanted to tease the squirrels. His cottage is on Lake Huron in Ontario.

Look at you, Jodi! Sounding like a professional gardener! Explaining the photosynthesis process of daffodils and why we have to leave the leaves for a while. Also, explaining to hubs the level at which you plant. Starting your own plants! You have learned so much in a short time. Got it going on, Girl! Love it!! 😊

We put chicken wire around young plants that the animals eat until they are robust enough to not be affected by animals. It has helped our hostas , my young rose bush, and some young Hollys in our yard. If you plant sunflowers again maybe put a barrier around them until they are bigger

The fuchsia probably just needs consistent water and some fertilizer. The leaf browning/yellowing is from improper care. Most likely too much direct hot sun also. I’d baby it for a few weeks and see before I cut it back. That much budding, flowering and growth takes lots of water and nutrients from the soil. Your yard is looking lovely! 😊

Lol, you have the right idea for the weed suppression. Clean it up and fill it up with wanted plants. 😊 Gardeners dream. Just a thought, you might do some research on what squirrels like to eat, and plant them some preferred food choices in the woods to keep them out of the bird feeders. Not sure that works, but maybe.

Good morning. A couple of years ago I had a deer eat all of my sunflowers. They were about 3 feet high and to my horror they ate all 4 of them! Also, my mom is 87 and has been an VERY active gardner all her life. Her tip for hanging baskets is to fill a bucket full of water and let the basket sit in the bucket. It needs to suck water up from the roots. Leave it in the bucket for a couple of hours and I do that twice a month. When it is extremely hot we do that once a week. I am telling you your hanging baskets will be so full and healthy looking, give it a try. I live in northern Ontario. Hugs xoxo

I'm on a rose bush kick this year. All of my lily's are just starting to finish up blooming. I've enjoyed them so much. I have a whole bed of them that were originally just 2 plants from my dad. It's half amaryllis, which has became 2 different colors. Solid red and a white with red veining. And than day Lillie's that are a burnt orangish color. There still blooming. I have enjoyed them so much. I did plant some veggies too. I have a couple of bell peppers now. Still waiting on the others. I just love fiddling around in the garden beds. I go out every evening. Hey, girl. I had never had experience with peonies until we bought our campsite. The previous owners planted them. When they first blossom they smell heavenly and are beautiful, I have light pink. When they start dying the petals are a pain in the butt. I have to constantly get them out of the garden as soon as they fall. I have 7 plants. I cut them and bring them home sometimes or bring them into the camper. I don't have a garden at home but eventually want to plant more perennial flowers. I have found that if you have climbing rodents like chipmunks you can rub vasoline on the Sheppard hook and they slide down, lol funny as hell. good luck with the plants!! I see squirrels as rats with fluffy tails. They will eat bird eggs from nests and young birds. We have a battery operated feeder that spins squirrels off. Also, baffles are inexpensive deterrents that go onto poles. Try mixing cayenne pepper in with feed. Supposedly doesn't bother birds, but squirrels won't like it. Good luck! Love the flower beds!

Hi Jodi. I planted right next to the bulbs WITHOUT cutting stalks. But that's me.
Good idea on direct sowing. Weed barrier will prevent direct sewn seeds from putting roots as deep as they need to go.
I noticed that when you talk to the birds you "baby talk" which means your voice gets higher. Higher tones are warning tones to many birds. It could be warning some of them off.
    Coneflower is beautiful!!!
Love Shasta daisies. So pretty. Snapdragons in? Nice!!!
    Viviana is absolutely correct 😂
Jodi. Re: squirrels...try the feeders that attach to windows and put on side of house where squirrels won't have tree access to the roof. That MAY baffle the squirrels for a couple of years. 😆
I'm working on: the rug removal a little bit again. Shavu'ot (weeks/ pentacost/ TORAH GIVEN to Möshe/Moses at Mt. Sinai) starts this evening so preparing cheesecake, cheesecake treats, potato&cheese bars and a few more things. Walking. And a few other new things.
Deer eat them as do moose lol😊
If you want to direct seed, to avoid the birds & squirrels getting the seeds, you need to take a flashlight out after dark and plant them. If they don't see you plant them, they won't usually go dig them up. I used to do this all the time, 😂.
Weeds, if you get them before they seed- you can cut way down on their reseeding themselves.
They did get sun before or they wouldn't have grown there to survive. Hydrangeas.
Yep. Lots of nature eating everything 😁

Squirrels and deer dug up and are up our sunflowers. And a bunny seems to think the garden is a buffet.

Hi Jodi, the new hummingbird feeder, you have to keep water in the very top to keep ants out.

Boy do I know your struggle with all the wildlife! Last night a deer ate a plant that was growing to well! Frustrating! Your yard is looking really awesome! I hope you have a great week!

Be careful what you wish for. Lol. They will eat bulbs and seeds if they hunt for their own food.

I got tired of the squirrels eating all the seed & got a feeder that has a cage around it so baby birds only can access it. 🎉

i recommend you weed wack the weeds and put down a cardboard layer and pine straw on top? That might keep the weeds down?

I'm so sorry about your sunflowers! I planted a few pear seeds from a pear i ate last winter & one germinated! It grew to about 6 or 8 inches tall & had several big leaves! It was doing so well, I put the pot outside for it to get some sun & something bit it off and killed it! I was so upset!! I love fuschia too, I wonder if they are root bound & need to be re-potted...?

It's hilarious Hubs called you Snow White. That's who I've been saying I feel like now that I've apparently become a plant lady.
I'm still trying to get the Crows to bring me presents. They get fed the food my Princess cats deem unworthy of eating after it's been on their plates for a few hours. Unless of course the foxes get to it first.

This may sound silly, but If you put the feeders on a pole away from the tree and put something slick on it the squirrels cannot get up the slippery pole!

Can you lay down cardboard as a weed suppressors? Maybe ask family members to keep cardboard for you since you will need a lot for these areas?

Why not just feed the squirrels, too? My daddy used to love feeding squirrels. One used to come eat food right from his hand. ✝️🙏🏻Get 2 bird bath water basins for the yard. Fill one with food and one with water. They can share. ❤

I have 3 water containers out for them. The birds and squirrels drink from them ❤️

I’m curious if any gardeners on here have advice about the sunflowers? When I planted catnip, my friend, shawne taught me to plant a birdcage or something similar a little below the service of the dirt and the plant inside it. Then cats/ any other wildlife can only eat the plant down to the edge of the cage and they can’t get any further inside.
Is there such an equivalent or something that grows as tall as a sunflower?

    • @jodidunnmymessylife1847
      @jodidunnmymessylife1847  22 дня назад +1

Yes there are lots of things you can do similar to that but obviously on a bigger scale for sunflowers. I just don’t think want to go through the work of fighting them

I don’t think I would either. I am slowly coming back to gardening that takes more of my energy but when I first became a mom, I decided that there would be no princesses in my garden. Anything that couldn’t survive without a lot of extra care. I let die back and let the self-sufficient plants take over. My garden is a little little wilder, but I still love it! Everything has season, and we have so much energy in a day.@@jodidunnmymessylife1847

Also, a game or security camera so you can identify the offenders. The deer left not one tulip blossom for me to emjoy this spring. Bought an animal repellant that is all natural, just too minty smelling for most animals!
