Since uploading the vid I discovered a truly unfathomable quirk; that presets made on the desktop plugins are not compatible with plugin running on the QC. Apparently that will be possible, you guessed it..soon!
The one two punch of CorOS 3.0.0 and my presonus audio interface dying, pushed me over the edge in the decision to finally get a Quad Cortex.
It feels like now most of the big pieces are in play to fairly assess against the original launch claims, and for the most part it’s pretty good!
Some big question marks remain though re: ndsp as a cohesive ecosystem, future amp/effect updates and are we seeing the dawning of a pay-to-play DLC type thing.
Anyways, looking forward to getting to know the other big player in the amp modelling world, let me know your tips, fav models/captures and ndsp plugins! Cheers 🐝🎸

Great video! Same here, helix and fractal user, I have a QC on the way. Pretty excited to try this out now.

5:39 The "Captain 50" is a model of the Dumble inspired Morgan SW50
    Love your tasteful playing!
    Great video, subscribed!
I don’t think anyone is really buying plugins just to use them on the QC, as it pretty much already has all the devices of the plugins (or very very close alternatives).
It’s just cool to now be able to use the exact devices of those we already own.
I think the QC is a fantastic product that does some things that none of the competition offer, but Neural DSP really shot themselves in the foot with their initial promises, which they didn’t even know if they would ever be able to deliver on.
Remember when they said that eventually through a software update you’d be able to even capture time based effects like delay and reverb pedals?
I’m not betting money on that ever coming.
As always, never buy a product on the promise of future updates.
Regarding the QC‘s durability, I’ve been gigging it since launch and never had any issues.

Thanks for watching and the kind words! Much appreciated.
Yea the Morgan sw50, thats more of a Clean thing though less on the ODS side of the coin? My initial experiments with that are not really what I'm talking about. Nice though.
Wow time based effects?! Don't remember that at all!
Glad to hear you're giggin it with no issues!

Great to see you David! For me personally the idea of DSP plugins was to have an abillity to build almost hassle free epic sound just from your DAW having absolutely nothing Hardware wise (except soundcard obviously smth affordable like Focusrite) And I personally have no idea why do you need those plugins to be ported over an expensive device where you could have built sounds very simmilar AND also to pay for it. I would've had X pluggins included in cortex package ...and all of them...that would've had more sense. Cheers!

      You too dude!
Yea I think many people assumed there would a least be a discounted price for qc owners to buy plugin licenses.
I can see the utility if you’ve built a particular sound around some of the unique aspects of a particular plugin, but you’re right in that a lot of the tones can be reconstructed with the onboard devices.
One of my first observations is that without the pretty skeuomorphic images the overlap of devices within the plugins becomes much more apparent.
It’s an interesting approach as I can’t work out if ndsp wants these things to work as part of a broader ecosystem or walled off separate products.
Time will tell over the next few releases I guess, either way having fun with it 👍🏻 cheers. 🐝🐝

Question: Is that John Cordy’s hand changing the blocks for you, while you play? 😝

lol impossible, I don’t think Cordy can touch the qc without getting a rash 😂

@@DavidBeebee Bahahaha! I have the Tone King plugin and Love it. Had a QC earlier and sent it back…no shade on them at all. Just didn’t at the time offer me anything my others already provided. Safe travels brother!

Absolutely, they make great sounding stuff and are really important in the landscape of modern guitar sounds. Some choices they make do leave me scratching my head, but I always wanna keep a fair and open mind, will see how this goes!

Neural stated several time that they'll keep updating the QC(faster than before actually) and won't leave feature behind the plugins payment. AND they alreay did in the last update providing free content that was highly anticipated.

@@EJH-jn6mo I'm trusting what I see. Neural provided us the Kraken in one of the recent updates, instead of making us buying Archetype Rabea. They gave us a great circular day instead of making us buying Archetype Asato. They gave us all of the general plugin blocks(doubler, blend, gate...) instead of making us buying a plugins.
So... yeah, I trust that'll get more great free content.

That's a really good point re: kraken and rabea and cuts against my main point if that was the timeline. Thanks for highlighting, a good sign for sure.

The inability to utilize your plugin presets on the QC is a huge omission.

I definitely hate the precedent it sets. I don't know the demographic they're aiming at but, as a casual player, the whole hype died (and at the time the marketing had me pretty much convinced that NDSP stuff was above all the competition, so yes, I was quite hyped, and planning to spend a lot of money) when I understood that they were willing to sell the 'soon-compatible' plugins to the hardware owners.
I mean, it's one thing to convince me to spend twice the price to get 'the best' instead of 'the best value', but trying to sell me add-ons on top of that is just giving the feeling that my expensive hardware is missing something.
The last few years have seen tremendous progress and quality improvements from the competition. NDSP is an innovative force in the field and I wish them well, but I'm really not sure the niche market they seem to aim at will remain sustainable.
Ah, yes, also : I must say the whole TINA marketing and that last ad, with the rendered aesthetic (the great music, but with a barely recognizable guitar tone in it, is another debatable point), just made me feel like a cash cow.
To me they just look so desperate to convince everybody their modeling technology is still flying above the competition (as it - maybe - did for a brief period of time), that it just demonstrate how fragile is the main selling point they chose. They have great collabs, killer tones, dozens of original usecases with their unparalled i/o, as you pointed out, and probably a great user community (I assume ?). Why TF do they chose to sell me a button-fiddling-robot instead of pushing those feats ?
