    Did anyone already say that just bring down an input on Neural DSP plugin?

  • @franbert6218
    @franbert6218 4 дня назад

    I understand that you’re trying to reproduce the sound exactly between the plugin and the amp. My problem is the signal to noise ratio. If you’re leaving the input gain at zero, you’re going to get a lot more noise especially when recording the guitar into a DAW.

  • @FRMWARE
    @FRMWARE 4 дня назад

    David - Your demo gives the impression that you're using the SEND and RETURN to patch in the Guv'nor through these in/outs. Are you in fact just using the Guv'nor prior to the input to the FM3? I'm using IN2 & OUT2 to patch in the Guv'nor after the cab.

    the correct interface gain will ALWAYS be the hottest signal without clipping. What you need to do after that is to trim the input gain (NOT THE GAIN KNOB) on the plugin. Doing otherwise is just stupid.

    Amazing tones! How do you like the overall experience of the Quad, comparing to Fractal FM3? Do you miss some tones that you were getting with Fractal? I'm having a hard time deciding which one of these two should I pick for live gigs.

    • @DavidBeebee
      @DavidBeebee 10 дней назад

      Cheers! The more I use the QC the more I like it, and the awesome captures I've got recently have really changed my mind on it for the better, but it still lacks way behind the FM3 for my own personal needs. The Fractal universe has many D-style amps that I love and use all the time, the D thing is missing in the QC ecosystem currently. I think I say it in the video, footswitching is a big issue for me, it's wild that I can do more with 3 switches on the FM3 than is possible with 11 on the QC! So that, and the power supply would ultimately rule it out of my gig life. for now. Thanks for watching!

    0 input gain on your interface is just plain wrong, and it's rooted in a misconception about gain staging my dude. @davidbeebee I also have come from Fractal the FM9, I would encourage you to checkout something like a midi baby which opens the QC up, it effectively allows you with a single click to not have all 8 switches for both stomp and preset mode which is quite better if you are used to fractal and you now have something similar to the OMF9 layout.

    I think the price is steep. But maybe worth it if you never need the pedal. If you have the pedal I think it’s way too much. I have an HX Stomp and Line 6 offered Native for next to nothing because I’d bought the pedal. The I look thing is a real put off for me. I have an account but think it’s a pain. As for the bugs, well for windows users there seem to be real issues - Cordy had big problems - and if the M based Macs are also a problem then £200 seems way too much to pay. And finally, the buying process is rubbish. The USA site has a 7 day free trial. The rest of us don’t get that. Hopefully they’ll address some issues with updates. Indeed maybe they have already. Time to do some diving on the forums.

    Fantastic video! Didn't know the Ice delay. I'm a hx stomp user and to achieve these kind of sounds i always use the delays in parallel to keep keep the clarity and also be able to use the dynamic split. To make things a bit a fair, Line6 should "compete" here with a Helix Native. I think it's worth it! In that case, i'd split after the adriatic delay to keep the first repeat clean. Also, the shimmery stuff... i think it can be achieved manipulating the Glitch delay without using the shimmer reverb. Maybe with an octave delay after the glitch... 3 delays always better than one! xD Btw! Have you used the Ventoux amp? It's my favourite HX Stomp amp by far. A mix between a Fender brownface amp and an Orange amp. Crisp, clean, mean and lots of personality. The HP filter is the key in that amp.

    • @DavidBeebee
      @DavidBeebee 14 дней назад

      Oh thanks for reminding me about the ventoux, no I’ve not really tried that out much. Will do. Yea, native would be a good idea to experiment with getting the line6 close to the ice sound. I’ll give it a go Thanks again!

    What's rubbery slippage, do you mean digital clipping?

    • @DavidBeebee
      @DavidBeebee 21 день назад

      Haha nope, not clipping. It’s a kind of latency like feeling introduced when the impedance is lower. Like the notes are coming well after you play them. Stupid term I can up with to describe it. I might actually do a whole video on this!

      @@DavidBeebee ducking?

    • @DavidBeebee
      @DavidBeebee 20 дней назад

      No, it’s not a ducking delay. It feels like when you have a high buffer set on your interface. Play a note then there’s a tiny gap before you hear it. Like the notes are rubbery and slipping away from your fingers and timing. It’s really only noticeable on fast, in-time legato stuff, say 32nd notes above 70bpm. But I do quite a lot of that (too much probably😅), so it became an annoying issue, preventing me liking the HX Stomp for a while. J.Cordy figured out the problem, it wasn’t technically latency, but a latency-like effect introduced when using the input impedance set lower than 1M. After I changed my presets to 1M it was like night and day better, and the stomp became much more fun and useable! Rubbery slippage be gone!

    • @martiboucat
      @martiboucat 20 дней назад

      @@DavidBeebee oooh ok! What happens if you set it up to Auto? I can't play legato but at first, when i got my hx stomp, everything sounded kind of muffled. Changing the input value made everything better. I've come to realise that i don't really like my sennheiser hd600 headphones for playing with the stomp because everything sounds "far" and i think it's because those headphones need a poweramp driving them a bit more or low impedence cable or don't know what. When i run the stomp with no cab block to a fxloop return sounds fantastic, so it's not the Stomp... it's me and my setup! 🙂

Also I'd recommend on the first Adriatic delay to put the headroom all the way up to 12 Db, I find you can get clipping and other distortions sometimes depending on what's in front of it.

      Yea, I might go back and luck at some of the legacy stuff, I think the reverbs were poorer so that kinda put me off the legacy things, but there will absolutely be some good stuff there thinking about it. You know it's funny, I did mention the headroom on the Adriatic in the first edit, but cut it out the final one trying to save some waffle hah, thanks for calling it to attention thats helpful. Thanks again for watching. Beebs

    Always great to watch you make these.......and, as you say, if the Stomp doesn't quite make it, it IS amazing how close it gets.

    No Timelines were harmed in the making of the stupid thumbnail! I’ve been in love with the Ice effect on the Strymon Timeline for years. I’ve never really found another delay that does what this is doing quite the same, and so I set about trying to get as close as I could with the FM3 and the HX Stomp. I think the FM3 version is pretty darn close, enough that the right vibe is there. It does ‘feel’ different to play still, but probably not noticeable in a big wall of sound. The HX Stomp is a bit further off the original , but still a pretty cool sound in its own right considering the DSP limitations. Do you guys know of any other delay/effect that nails the Strymon Timeline Ice sound out the box or with a preset? Thanks for watching! 🎸🐝🙏🏻

    Spot on! I have been doing this wrong as well. I have demo-ed 3 Archetypes at this point: Morgan, Rabea (OMG!!) & the Mark III (a note: so dead on at both my favorite things and most annoying things about my real versions!). I also think there is something psychological about what the printed tracks look like level wise. They can look weak - but they just aren't. After getting the input right, the next thing - not an issue with Neural, but with many plugin's (even native to the DAW), be mindful of the output level. It can create some unsavory qualities, too. Lastly or firstly: for those that say about input level: if it sounds good it is good. Be warned that in a mix, the issues with that can become impactful in ways that just hinder the clarity of the mix. Just 1 cats opinion this. Thanks for the vid. It needs to be part of Interfaces 101 for everyone!

    neural dsp USED to recommend setting your audio interfaces gain setting to right before it begins clipping, turns out this is wrong and as far as i know they do not recommend this anymore. all you’re doing is slamming your di signal with way more gain. the actual best option to do is set your audio interface to the instrument setting and leaving it at 0. any input gain you add should only be from the input section in the plugin itself. John Nathan Cordy has a pretty good video on this subject. Hope this was any sort of help!
