The Atari cartridge restoration felt like some sort of restoration from an ancient civilization. This gives me chills as to what it would be like if society as we know it crumbled and people found hardware thousands of years later.
sinfulldreamer I had the same chill. And then got really happy to see the results. It looks like that cartridge did its job protecting the the chip. He had to "cheat" a little with the wires but the results are worth it. If civilization did collapse, things look good for old fashion game cartridges and not so good for discs and cloud storage. If Asteroids can survive crushed and buried in a landfill for 30 years, I suspect they'd last even longer in someone's attic. Meanwhile the discs would probably rot in that time span.
I've known about your channel for for no more than 24 hours, and i must say you inspire me. i only wish i found you earlier, please keep doing what it is you're doing and thankyou.
This chanell its simply awesome, Ben is extremely skilled and I simply cant stop to watching episode after episode. Congrats and greetings from Brazil, Ben!
I have starting to think too much is being decided / built off camera, Ben with your older builds you would spend more time exploring ideas and testing them, for the viewer this made the episode more interesting, where was the footage for the designs cut on the laser, or the CNC designs and build of your Jig on the bandsaw. Your show is starting to remind me of a childrens TV show in England UK called Blue Peter that got a catch phase "Heres One I Made Earlier" as everything was pre-assembled before cameras rolled. I dont like to be negative as I love the show and look forward weekly for another dose, just compared to your older style episodes there seems to be something missing and less gripping.
Laptop displays are ridiculously expensive on top of that extra $20. They're not meant to be purchased by the end-consumer, so when you can get them, they're not at mass produced prices.
MrGencyExit64 You can get a laptop display for decent prices online where they sell spare laptop and phone parts. Mostly it's places that buy used electronics and do tear-downs for the individual working components.
ZanderDude Yes, but didn't you see Ben's video on reworking displays? He tried to get a display from a photo frame to waork. It took him ages and in the end he didn't have electronics to drive it.
glitchsmasher Actually, it's not proprietary. There is a widely used standard called FPD (Flat Panel Display Link) which is based on LVDS (low voltage differential signaling) for connecting the flat panel to its controller logic board. More recently, eDP (Embedded Display Port) has also been standardized.
Cool show Ben, just a little constructive feedback, laser cutting vinyl makes chlorine gas which can kill living things including humans and corrodes your laser cutter. I won't laser it! Cutting ABS makes cyanide gas which is actually not as bad but should be vented and filtered. Oh yeah cleaning PCB's with wire wool can catch you out as one metal hair can destroy all. I use scotchbrite if I want to be aggressive with out extra risk.
I would love to make one with a touchscreen display, SD card reader and a keyboard, the keyboard could just be Bluetooth with a receiver in the display due to having some spare space. But I'm not very good at this sort of stuff.
+George Young You'd have to map the touch screen in such a way that you'd have to change the code in order to make it emulate a controller. As for the SD card reader, you can buy a SD to USB adapter for cheap on EBay. The keyboard would have limited support and would only be useful for typing faster. So, is it worth it? It depends.
What kind of super glue does Ben use? He seems to have good results each time. I have used RP5 industrial glue but it only sticks to certain plastics, Gorilla Super Glue seems to work with more materials, and Krazy Super Glue worked the best for me.
I still want to see Ben de-portabilize a handheld gaming console. Making it so that you could hook it up to your TV. I gave him the suggestion of doing that with a GBA, but apparently there's some accessory already that allows you to do that. =/
I think he talked about the gameboy player. But I wanted something more _raw_. Down to the metal. Soldering and desoldering stuff. Forcing it to obey your comman-- I mean...The usual Ben Heck stuff.
SΛmfreeman05 Hey, that's a very cool project those guys are doing. It's pretty much what I wanted, except that it's for the GameBoy, not the GBA. Still great, though. Thanks for letting me know!
i´m very courious, if the form factor of the finished unit gets near a tablet (in relation to the screen size of course) and how to transport the controller, it doesn´t seem to be included for transportation..so you would ned an extra bag...
Please make a GameCube portable with the GameBoy Player addon built-in. I'd love to see that. You can make it smaller if you use a mod chip to bypass the disc drive.
I'm doing the ecxat same thing right now, but with a ps3 ss. I hope I can learn something in this episode, because I didn't found an LCD thats fitting yet. Thank you for your show! Sorry if I made some mistakes, I'm from Germany.
Bogan Mike It's pretty obvious that it was a joke. Ben has made so many different portable consoles, and EliteSniperTV said "why not just get a gaming laptop?" So that Ben can play whatever he wants on a single laptop instead of fiddling around with 10 different portable consoles.
probably less thick than the actual console itself but nearly the same. The console has a lot of empty space because Microsoft was extra worried about airflow.
I noticed you don't use ESD protection when manipulating the LCD monitor controller. Can you elaborate why not? or did you just forget or you just didnt care lol...?
Ben, you have a 3d printer right? Well, What if you could take some normal kitchen equipment, some normal ingredients, and a couple tricks up your sleeves, as-well as a kitchen book to make your own food 3d printer.
I was thinking I’d try to make my own XB1 portable. So I wanted to know could I just use the XB1 CPU and GPU and use another motherboard to do so? So I could try to make it smaller or is most of if not all the internals required?
Ben, Someone needs to introduce you to my good friend; Super 77... its way better than Crazy glue for making covers/Cases when 2 types of materials are used.
Hi,Ben . This is another cool project . I like it . I must say your projects is well thought out and done . You give me alot of ideas for my own stuff . I feel sorry for felix , He must have to go home and have a beer and say to himself I hope what those two have is not contaigous LMAO . All in fun guys . Love your projects and I wish to all of you a very merry christmas and a happy healthy prosperous new year . Warmest Regards Terry
i have not seen any drawling tablets with a cover like that. or anything. buy you make it sound like its comon. i got a motion computing m1400 that has a cover, buts its a plastic pannle that can snap on either side of the tablet.
I wish that Microsoft would just come out with a tablet sized portable Xbox one or at least a handheld that was equivalent to the 360 or Xbox one I've been hoping they would come out with a handheld since the original Xbox came out.
Almost the whole XBOX ONE is part of the AMD A8 processor which has 8xCPU cores and 8xGCNs and the TrueAudio DSP north and south bridge hardware the only hardware on the motherboard is the system RAM LAN controller and WIFI controller.
You really, REALLY deserve more than half a million subscribers. Your hacks and portable builds are fantastic.

sinfulldreamer Fallout, lol
Fun fact: Nintendo Switch cartridges rattle.

Same boat. Inspired to hack my stuff
Same I literly just want to by a

Buy a dictionary.
I can't believe you fixed that Asteroids game! So awesome!
That Asteroids segment should've been it's own video.
It really should have.

JosephXFS idk
He clearly doesn't understand RUclips does he
Ben, you can build anything. Love the shows. Here's to the next PlayStation and Xbox. I can't wait for the next gen console conversion.
Simply thank you ben please get 1,000,000 subscribers soon
how the hell have i been on youtube for so long and NEVER CAME ACROSS THIS CHANEL!?!?!? I love the content!!!
If only all tech time outs could be as good as the one in this episode.
I actually live in Alamogorodo, NM. I was their when they were digging up the ground for the E.T carts.
I can't believe you got that Atari 2600 Asteroids cartridge working from the desert landfill, amazing.
It may sound weired, but the most interesting part of this episode to me was the Atari-"Dump-Cartridge"-Resurrection...
I'm really excited to see how this build will turn out. Also, great job reviving that dead atari cartridge
I love your vids Ben. It's adorable how no matter what, you can't say "Neodymium" properly to save your life. It's charming. :)

ben heck.. making the world better one hardware hack at a time..
I think 'Hecking' should be a word...
And he is building the Hecksbox
Poo Jabba "HecksBox One"
+paul Z "hexbox PS"
Does he ever realize he can get a laptop display a $20 board to use hdmi
Laptop displays are ridiculously expensive on top of that extra $20. They're not meant to be purchased by the end-consumer, so when you can get them, they're not at mass produced prices.
MrGencyExit64 Also they use proprietary interfaces for the most part.

Looks pretty cool so far! this was a great idea! I've never heard of a Xbox Tablet!
In this episode we learn Ben loves pop music.
I love funky foam. I always keep some around. good for everything!
why is this not a tv show! you deserve a show!
That was the best Tech Timeout ever.
I would love to make one with a touchscreen display, SD card reader and a keyboard, the keyboard could just be Bluetooth with a receiver in the display due to having some spare space. But I'm not very good at this sort of stuff.

Yes! Use the Kragle!
Finally! Portable Projects!
The Ben Heck lego talk is the best
Wow that's going to be a huge portable system I'm hoping for a handheld Xbox one or at least one the size of a iPad or iPad pro.
I still want to see Ben de-portabilize a handheld gaming console. Making it so that you could hook it up to your TV.
I gave him the suggestion of doing that with a GBA, but apparently there's some accessory already that allows you to do that. =/
Yeah, sort of, the Super Game Boy for the SNES
And the gameboy player for GameCube
I think he talked about the gameboy player. But I wanted something more _raw_. Down to the metal. Soldering and desoldering stuff. Forcing it to obey your comman-- I mean...The usual Ben Heck stuff.
Well there's a kickstarter about the HDMY BOY, an addon for the first gameboy that allow you plug it in hdmi
SΛmfreeman05 Hey, that's a very cool project those guys are doing. It's pretty much what I wanted, except that it's for the GameBoy, not the GBA. Still great, though.

Hey Ben! I've got a question, which quemical are you using to clean the atari pcb?
Just noticed Ben uploaded this on my birthday
would be cool if you did the videos release before they were all recorded so people could give ideas
can you please do a portable playstation 4
This channel has got to get more popularity
You know you gotta do one with the Xbox One S now Ben! Perhaps with a 4k screen?
Holy crap you made it work that is awsome an Atari game now working and back from the dead awsome
I would like to see if you can make any adjustment on a laica laser tracker .
Is it just me or is this guy soooo awsome, very cool show :)
this guys is seriously my hero. he does everything i wish i could do!
Hello!!Ben I have an offtopic question! Do you think that it's possible to use a display from Lumia 950 to an Chinese Android device????
All you would have to do for the PS4 is build a fat back hinge for a screen and to hide the cabling.
Please make a GameCube portable with the GameBoy Player addon built-in. I'd love to see that. You can make it smaller if you use a mod chip to bypass the disc drive.
Are you considering doing a giveaway for this, because this is one of my favorite projects so far, and it would be incredible to own!
Maybe you could include the microphone from the Kinect, for voice controls? (even if you don't include the camera)
Kinda want to know where to get the industrial tweezers. Until I worked with a IDC cable, I didn't see a need. Today is a different day. :)
I'm doing the ecxat same thing right now, but with a ps3 ss. I hope I can learn something in this episode, because I didn't found an LCD thats fitting yet. Thank you for your show!
Sorry if I made some mistakes, I'm from Germany.
wtf are you even trying to type dude ?? you call that english ?? WHAHAHAH
JibbyVideos omfg what language are you using ? MOON LANGUAGE ?? fuck me
corsegerspwnd
You're quite the keyboard warrior I see! Feisty!
JibbyVideos I was thinking more on the lines of a Troll but your's is just as good i guess,no matter what an idiot is an idiot and he is. :-)
startazz
I though I'd go with something a little more fresh :)
What liquid did you use when cleaning the asteroids cartridge's board?
Where can I find that documentary? By the way amazing video! ^_^
You should upload videos far more often! Would be great !
Ben Heck is just awesome love this show :)
can you please take a look at WIIU and tell us if you have any way to make it fully portable ...?...
Someone really needs to give heck a freakin gaming laptop already
The point is that it's a portable gaming machine
Bogan Mike is a joke...
Stop hating dude likes to do what he does I'm getting a raspberry pi and I'll probably do a lot of what he does
Bogan Mike Yes it was a joke...
Bogan Mike It's pretty obvious that it was a joke. Ben has made so many different portable consoles, and EliteSniperTV said "why not just get a gaming laptop?" So that Ben can play whatever he wants on a single laptop instead of fiddling around with 10 different portable consoles.
This js impressive. I wonder how thick it will be though.
probably less thick than the actual console itself but nearly the same. The console has a lot of empty space because Microsoft was extra worried about airflow.
why flat? it's in tablet form basically the more wide it is the bbetter grip you can get on it
Whats that PCB we can see behind Ben to the right bolted behind the screen? at 15:40?
I think it would've been much easier if the monitor he took apart had audio out so it would have built-in amplification of the HDMI audio signal
The cover looked really floppy in the middle, at the end of the video. Put some magnets there too, or reinforce it.
could you not flip the acrylic when cutting it instead of making a jig?
I noticed you don't use ESD protection when manipulating the LCD monitor controller. Can you elaborate why not? or did you just forget or you just didnt care lol...?
he has mentioned it in another video, esd isn't an issue in his shop
Ben, you have a 3d printer right? Well, What if you could take some normal kitchen equipment, some normal ingredients, and a couple tricks up your sleeves, as-well as a kitchen book to make your own food 3d printer.
hay Ben Heck how much did to spend on all the materials
I was thinking I’d try to make my own XB1 portable. So I wanted to know could I just use the XB1 CPU and GPU and use another motherboard to do so? So I could try to make it smaller or is most of if not all the internals required?
Do you ever build these types of things for people to buy
I like that its in a similar shape to the Microsoft surface
Just out of curiosity, Are these portable versions of consoles available for purchase?
Just so I don't waste you time: I wouldn't be able to buy one anyway. I don't have any money right now...
You should leave a list of parts your using in the description so people can replicate your work.
Can you build a CD repair machine (for getting rid of stratches on a CD)
I think that was insane fixing the old Atari land fill game
I honestly don't know why you chose the XBone. The PS4 has no power brick and is much more compact.
Well then it wouldn't be much of a challenge would it?
Ballrace1 i guess
It's his channel! It's not yours!
[_/\_]AReNetW0rk∃264 - The Daddy Of RUclips Poop! Wow i had no idea!
Technically the PS4 does have a brick its just not outside the console like the Xbox. If you watch his PS4 teardown he shows it.
Ben, Someone needs to introduce you to my good friend; Super 77... its way better than Crazy glue for making covers/Cases when 2 types of materials are used.
Finally! Did you manage to get a few ideas from darkuncle33?
As an og-throw back, ever consider doing a original gen 1 xbox laptop?
Can you maybe redo it with the XBOX One S? It should be a be a lot smaller/thinner due to power consumption.
Amazing , its the best portable gaming system ever
Can the general public get there hands on what he creates?
Hey do you think you try to make a handheld original xbox?
Warmest Regards
Terry
Nice this looks very interesting!
I like that you do something different instead of another "Laptop"!
What size of monitor would you recommend to build this
16:29
Microsoft Air Bubbles? ☺
I would love to see 3D printer stuff on this channel.
Finally so keen to watch this
What! Funky foam is awesome!
And how expensive would be a ps4 laptop with internal battery, just like a common laptop?
Why choose the XB1?
How about doing the PS4 next!
I wanna see him make a gamecube portable. if need be, the Wii plays gamecube games, so you could save significant space that way.
Ben thank you this has been my dream to see this and I want to try it my self
i have not seen any drawling tablets with a cover like that. or anything. buy you make it sound like its comon. i got a motion computing m1400 that has a cover, buts its a plastic pannle that can snap on either side of the tablet.
part xbox one portable build part restoration of asteroids
only found this channel like 2 hrs ago but i fucking love the shit he can do its crazy
I wish that Microsoft would just come out with a tablet sized portable Xbox one or at least a handheld that was equivalent to the 360 or Xbox one I've been hoping they would come out with a handheld since the original Xbox came out.
I am from Indonesian,and i love this channel ❤️❤️❤️
Almost the whole XBOX ONE is part of the AMD A8 processor which has 8xCPU cores and 8xGCNs and the TrueAudio DSP north and south bridge hardware the only hardware on the motherboard is the system RAM LAN controller and WIFI controller.
What about a good heatsink for the XBOX360
Would it be easier to use a play station 1 instead of an xbone
Is there a way for me to check and see if the motherboard is receiving power?
how do I learn to make a custom case for my projects?
I would like to see u build one console that plays ps4 and xbox1 disc
Which project is the screen with the wood stand?
