Hey John, loved watching this. The camera aside, it was super useful for me to watch you shoot and pose the model. Those images against that white wall background that said "Lunch" on it were really cool! That 33mm f1.4 is really great too. Something I'd love to see is how the old lenses shoot on the new body. For example, how will the f2 lenses do on that body. Again, thanks for a really cool vide! Have a great week.
Great video. Thank you. Those colors and skin tones are amazing. I ‘left’ Fujj (except for X100V) for the Sony A7IV mainly for eye AF/tracking. I’d consider going back to Fuji if this AF is as good/sticky as the Sony. I loved my X-H1 but it was just more work than I wanted for images of my boys who never sit still.

Hey John. I'm curious, have you used the camera much for low light photography? Curious to hear your thoughts re. low light versus earlier models and full frame. Thanks!
Thanks. Curious about 2 things: 1- How is banding in electronic shutter mode. In general "influencers" that get a pre release camera to review the reviews are ALWAYS positive. When the camera gets to the public then they start talking about it's shortcomings or what needs a firmware or overall disappointments. In short, pre-release hardware videos are simply commercials.
I'm sure it feels that was but I'm not getting paid for this (aside from the Squarespace sponsor which has nothing to do with the camera). If you've watched my channel for a while I'm honestly just an over-positive person. For my uses and how I usually shoot nothing really stood out to me as disappointments. Also, disappointments tend to be a user-by-user case. So I'd rather share what it's good at and let you figure out what doesn't work out for you. I believe it's up to the user.
2:40 isn't that the case here? Right before the model spins around, the AF box is on the face, but the focus isn't. But I'm sure these issues get solved with a software update

@@jbivphotography thank you for the reply John. Sometimes I think of John Legend when I type your name.. 😂😂 btw how does XH2S compare with the latest from Sony? I don’t have a Sony. Been wanting to take the next step above my xt-2, I need some recommendations! I love fuji and this xh2-s looks so fun for both photos and maybe getting into video as a new thing for me. Any suggestions for the price? Many people mention the sony a7IV and going full frame.
I’d just get the 40mp xh2 or xt5 when the release. You get a bit more resolution with FF and better noise management, but Fuji’s color science, ibis, dynamic range and affordability beats sony pretty badly.
Really really helpful video! Can’t wait to hear more about the image quality compared to the XT4! The camera looks like a BEAAAAAST, but it’s an expensive beast, 2 bodies cost £5000! That’s double what 2 bodies of the XT4 cost so I think it’s a ‘future beast’ for me personally. Maybe in a few years, I’ve just purchased an XT3 to complete my Fuji kit for professional work, alongside my XT4 and I’m loving having two bodies!
my experience with Fuji is that it will often show the little face- or eye-detect green as if it has acquired focus, and then when you go on to check the images on the computer, you realize that half 35% of these images are out of focus...
This autofocus system is using Fujifilm's new double layered sensor. The focus is WAY BETTER than most of the cameras before it. So I would HIGHLY recommend not to compare to experiences you've had before. Also, if you're speaking of using eye detect during portraits honestly I suggest that most people use single autofocus and not continuous. Then there's no guessing left to the camera of if you're hitting focus.
@@jbivphotography But what's the point in using old DSLR shooting techniques when I buy a mirrorless? I know Single AF + focus recompose is the most reliable, but I envy Sony and Canon shooters who don't need to fuss with AF settings. Is the X-H2S good enough to a point it can be left on AF-C for portraits? Let's say you're getting a medium close-up and you want the model to spin so there's some motion in the hair, but the eye to be tack sharp at 33 f1.4 or 50 f1.0. Would it be doable on the X-H2S?
@Professional Potato piece of cake for that stuff, I have seen footage of the XH2s tracking 200 miles an hour Motorsport, bikes and fast action with wild life etc, it’s going to convert a lot more sports photographers now. The only potential issue for some is we need to see how the raw files look in low light? This hasn’t been analysed yet buy any RUclipsrs or any official site, we wait and see.
This is a great video. Loved to see you in action! I’m curious, since this video is 1yr old, have you had any issues with the XH2S AF in photo mode (or video mode for that matter)? I’ve read and heard several people say it’s not good now. The reason I ask is, I was SERIOUSLY considering getting an XH2S for wedding photography because there’s just something about Fuji and their colors that I love. But, if I’m going to have issues with the AF, that’s a dealbreaker when trying to get that perfect shot. So, long comment, but, Would you recommend the XH2S for a beginner wedding photographer? Really appreciate it.
Questions about the megapixels and the file sizes, do you think it would be sustainable to shoot weddings on this camera due to the sizes of the photos? I’m an over shooter too, I wonder if my MacBook would be able to cope
The X-H2S has the same 26mp count that the older Fujifilm cameras have. However, it's a double layered sensor. I think you're referring to the X-H2 which hasn't be let out into the wild just yet. That will have 40mps. However, I will say I've shot a handful of weddings with the GFX 100s (102mp) and honestly file size in my opinion really isn't that bad and shouldn't be the main concern. However, you do need to make sure you have the right gear and hard drives to manage everything.
@@jbivphotography doh🤦🏽♀️ you are absolutely right, post wedding brain has me getting the new camera bodies mixed up! Wow, that image quality is super stunning for the same megapixels 🤩. Also Thankyou for the heads up about the GFX system, I’m waaay too early in my journey to start using those, but one day I hope to!
Pre-ordered the XH2s a month ago. Looking to do wedding photgraphy, portrait sessions, and some videos here and there. I'm going to get a fuji 50mm 1.0 lense and either the fuji 23mm 1.4 or 33mm 1.4. Any suggestions on which I should get??? As of now Im leaning towards the 23mm 1.4. however, after seeing the 33mm in action you got me second guessing myself.
Do you do photo of video for weddings? For video, I’ve started to cut back my gear and do 16-55 all day. For photo, I carry two bodies and use the viltrox 56 and viltrox 23 Hope that helps!
At last, a guy who is willing to talk about us photographers and not 80% about video :) Waiting for your impressions concerning the X-T4 in comparison with the new X-H2s, from a PHOTOGRAPHER'S point of view of course. There are plenty of reviews out there for the videographers :)))))
Excellent video and the photos are amazing! Q: Could you do a portrait session with a non-conventionally attractive model? I'd love to see a portrait session with someone who looks like your average redditor. Male, early 30's, overweight/obese, acne-ridden skin, neckbeard, hasn't bathed in months, socially award, possibly an incel. It would be truly educational to see how a professional can take amazing photos of a person like that.
Oh my God, this camera is enticing, but I don't need that rapid auto focus. I'll have to wait for the mega pixel monster to be launched before I decide what to do.
Same here. I think the 40mp version would fit the style of photography I do more often. Also I RARELY if ever us continuous autofocus. So 40mps would be much more of a win for myself.
The 4k120p is probably one of my favorite things. It really has me thinking about upgrading. Even though I would like never use it. 😂 23 and 33 is a great combo usually for portraits and lifestyle photos. I'm a huge fan of that combination.
Heyo, You were filming with the X-T4 when not showing off the X-H2s, right? Anyways, it looks awesome. I am using the X-T3. And I am annoyed by some of its quirks in video. Exposure stepping, continuous auto focus wobbles, not very exact eye focus. I'd love a video about what works well and how you work around potential limitations.
This is great review but it's obvious regardless of the box that AF was not keeping up on the video part. Other then that awesome camera at a great price.
I think it might have been my settings. I had the focus speed set to -3 which was probably to slow for the speed she was walking towards the camera with.
There is a problem with Fujifilm X-H2s, it manifests itself in photo stills AF-S mode (focusing on a point and offset from the center of the frame) paired with an xf16-55 f.2.8 lens. Focus often misses or shifts to another subject. This problem occurs not only for me, but also for my friends, in the same combination h2s + 16-55. I have been using a Fujifilm system for seven years now and this is the first time I see such a problem, especially on a flagship camera ... 2023 and the company makes such gross mistakes. :(
Isn't the AF tracking test out of focus so much of the time? It's tracking the eye, but not focusing from what I can see at 2:29. Not impressive at all.
I think that’s because of my settings. I had the focus speed set to -3 for a nice smooth focus transition. But since she was walking fairly quickly it was focusing slowly.
Fujifilm has great cameras and lens. But Fujifilm has only crop matrix((((( I use Canon EOS R6 for my RUclips videos. It is fantastic camera. I love it))))💙
crop sensor is actually pretty good. I’m pretty sad that most people still think they crop sensor isn’t that great. Hopefully Fujifilm will be changing it up with a new 40 megapixel cameras gonna be putting out.

@@eliaspap8708 The AI is fast enough to track. Whether the AF can keep uo with the AI has yet to be seen. Nobody has done % hit rates testing.
Haha so glad we got the ‘woaahhahwyyee’ sound for this camera, that’s when you KNOW John be LOVIN something or feeling strongly about it 🤣
😂😂😂😂
This is a great video.
Loved to see you in action!
I’m curious, since this video is 1yr old, have you had any issues with the XH2S AF in photo mode (or video mode for that matter)?
I’ve read and heard several people say it’s not good now.
The reason I ask is, I was SERIOUSLY considering getting an XH2S for wedding photography because there’s just something about Fuji and their colors that I love.
But, if I’m going to have issues with the AF, that’s a dealbreaker when trying to get that perfect shot.
So, long comment, but,
Would you recommend the XH2S for a beginner wedding photographer?
Interested much more in seeing the AF improvements versus XT4
would be great to see
*Love you hair man look good, good video*👏👏👏👏
I appreciate that!
For photo, I carry two bodies and use the viltrox 56 and viltrox 23
Hope that helps!
how does it compare to the XT4?
Man, Fuji color is something else...
I love it so much. Bout to start shooting everything in JPEG
Please do the comparison!
Awesome. I will!
That’s my girl speed! I forget that you’re based in Raleigh
@@jbivphotography Can't wait for 40mp version👍
Hi John, did you get the XH2s for photo? Or are you still just using 2 XT5s?
Have an X-H2s but I’m mainly using it for video. I use my X-T5s as my main photo cameras
Looks like a hot day. Not sure how you aren't sweating like a hydrant with the slacks and button down shirt. Footage of the xh2s looks dope tho.
Oh I was. lol.
What’s that camera bag model called? 😁
it's from Holdfast!
4k120 looks great, and the photos you get from those lenses look amazing. 😄
Is going out with a 23 & 33 combo something you'd recommend? 🙂
The 4k120p is probably one of my favorite things. It really has me thinking about upgrading. Even though I would like never use it. 😂 23 and 33 is a great combo usually for portraits and lifestyle photos. I'm a huge fan of that combination.
Heyo,
You were filming with the X-T4 when not showing off the X-H2s, right? Anyways, it looks awesome.
I am using the X-T3. And I am annoyed by some of its quirks in video. Exposure stepping, continuous auto focus wobbles, not very exact eye focus.
I'd love a video about what works well and how you work around potential limitations.
A software update for older fujifilm cameras is out.
@David yeah, that definitely improved the auto focus issue but the exposure stepping is still there with my zooms
On my trial the evf was average in viewing through when wearing specs and watching you use it didn’t make me think I was wrong… sadly
wow that's surprising. All of my photos looked so much sharper and clearer when using the EVF. I was blown away by the quality.
Hey John, just FYI, I guess the lens you are using here is 33mmf1.4 mk one, not two :)
Yeah...Typo in the video while editing. 🙃🙃🙃
This is great review but it's obvious regardless of the box that AF was not keeping up on the video part. Other then that awesome camera at a great price.
I think it might have been my settings. I had the focus speed set to -3 which was probably to slow for the speed she was walking towards the camera with.
@@jbivphotography don't be so hard on yourself Fuji isn't known for fantastic video AF. This one seems like they made improvements.
The autofocus still pulses ....🥲
Luckily this is pre-production software still. I also think it might have been my settings.
@@jbivphotographyit's still pulsing in 2024
She'd look like my dentist, she wonders why I always make too much appointments, heheheh.
The video quality is killer. I'd say up from XT3, photos are sweet. Photos and model are beautiful.
Nice new cam.. 23mm is just too wide for portraits, and the bokeh is not very good when it's 23mm wide.. 33mm shots was better with the bokeh visible.
offcourse we want to see the comparison. that is our damn expectation lool. great work though
😂😂😂
Isn't the AF tracking test out of focus so much of the time? It's tracking the eye, but not focusing from what I can see at 2:29. Not impressive at all.
I think that’s because of my settings. I had the focus speed set to -3 for a nice smooth focus transition. But since she was walking fairly quickly it was focusing slowly.
So torn between the XH2S and XH2 😂
Fujifilm has great cameras and lens. But Fujifilm has only crop matrix((((( I use Canon EOS R6 for my RUclips videos. It is fantastic camera. I love it))))💙
crop sensor is actually pretty good. I’m pretty sad that most people still think they crop sensor isn’t that great. Hopefully Fujifilm will be changing it up with a new 40 megapixel cameras gonna be putting out.
@@jbivphotography I am agree with you, that crop sensor really great. I want fujifilm xt-4 like second camera for video. Fujifilm do really good job. But I love canon r6)))))))))))
Будем посмотреть. 😉👍
Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed it.
X-H2s almost burnt the a7iv same price i just checked the spec sheets oh shhh the Battle of hybrid camera... the Battle is real! full frame vs APS-C 👑
I wonder if I could get an a7iv and do a comparison. I've never shot Sony before.
@@jbivphotography yea :) i and others of your fans want to see the comparison specially on the wedding "Behind the scene" .. btw I love how you shoot on weddings for me that's superb ... I'm dreamn to shoot weddings someday
Have one Sony….the RX1R mk ii. Outstanding kit.
get it get it get it! I knew you will be tempted to get it! So new update for the wedding gear setup will be coming soon I assume.
It really is tempting. I really don't need it however, but if I was going to get it I would replace my X-T4 since it acts as my video camera.
Bro I’m literally thinking about switching to Fuji from Sony
DO IT! I'm a huge fan of Fujifilm if you can't tell.
40fps is insaneee
Right?!! I don't even know what to do with that.
40fps or 40mp? Which would you pick?
@@Mezthecreator personally for me 40mp. But also that's mainly because I'm a wedding photographer. The 40fps isn't that useful. Getting 8-10fps is MORE than enough for weddings.
Perfect girl
Amazing model. She did a great job.
@@jbivphotography
she is so beautiful
Omg she is fine bro
She’s a great model. Hoping to work with her again.
😂 it was clear as day out of focus when you showed her walking in the screen recording. Who cares if a box is there if the camera isn’t even locking on.
I think it might have been my settings. I had the focus speed set a little lower so it wasn't really set for walking subjects.
