- Hey y’all,
It’s been a while, but happy to get some things out of my head. I’ve spent a bit too much time ruminating over work and life, so it’s important to share where I’m at.
Cheers,
Josh
Hi, Josh….. I’m really glad to see you back. I’m also glad that Emily & you are doing so great. You two are awesome & deserve all the success & happiness you can stand. Now that you are on familiar grounds work life balance is so very important. I hope you can put this at a priority. You’re such a genuine guy. Anyone would be so proud to have both Emily & you in their lives. Just keep yourself in a positive mindset & you’ll be able to accomplish anything. I look forward to hearing about how well you’re doing. Please take care of yourself.
I find its very hard to decompress from work enough to reset. It sometimes seems like an endless marathon. Everytime I change a job, its very difficult to find the balance. I went a year without doing a hobby I enjoy because I felt so consumed by work and life. Long story short, don't forget to stop and breathe. Give yourself time to decompress without the stress of obligation. Hoping you're able to settle and find the time to breathe!
Seattleite of four years here. “Seattle freeze” is very much a thing here in all aspects of life - professional and interpersonal. Still really hard finding friends. Hope you continue to enjoy Seattle!
Why is that?
Big cities are just not friendly!
I live in a small town 50 miles out of Pittsburgh & it's not really friendly either because everybody knows everybody & I'm an outsider.
Smoking & drinking are their hobbies here with no life goals
Thanks for the update! By the way, I watched your video on 'Coworkers Are NOT Your Friends | QUITTING.' It was the best-such an eye-opener and 100% on the mark. Well done!
Impostor syndrome is such a buzzkill. Don't forget to ask for help when you need it.
Happy to hear that you are home :)
So nice to watch you and knowing about you, Josh! I got lost the account on coffee so I lost contact with you. I loved chatting with you and our coversations! So nice to see you again and you look amazing!
We missed you!! Love your presence on here 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Welcome back to RUclips. Hope you and your wife are settling well in the Seattle area.
I started back to working out, which has been helpful for my mental health as well as physical.
I checked on Sunday to see if there were any videos that I had missed and today there is an update. Wishing you and Emily all the best.
I'm not getting his updates either & I'm subscribed
Welcome back to Seattle, Josh! I live in the Seattle-Capitol Hill area and have loved living in Seattle for the past 17 years. When I moved here, I immediately joined a local running club and made many friends that way. As you said, there are countless outdoor activities around the Seattle area and many clubs and organizations to join that bike, hike, run, ski, boat, etc. That's the way I've made friends here. It's actually been fairly easy.
Curious which running club?

Not that many people are as active as u are!
I joined a walking club @ a local YMCA & it's a bunch of old retired women & a 2 retired men. Lol

Ha! Front runners here is the worst!
Josh & Emily. Congratulations! At last! Back to somewhere you both can call home. Settle and grow. Good to see you looking so well and 'relaxed'. Yes it will take time to 'settle back' and find your 'vibe'. [for want of a better word!] Being 'home, finding your home is so vital for all the aspects of your well-being. Thank you for the update, Josh. Appreciated. Take care, stay safe. Always.
And yes your posts are inspiring.
healthy reminders, thank you for this
Nice to see you here again Josh 😀. Glad to hear things are going well for you in Seattle. The Pacific Northwest is the most beautiful place in the world. So much natural beauty🌲. Wish I could come back too but so expensive to live there unfortunately.
Missed you ❤
hi josh nice to see you. thank you for sharing.
Lots of newness in your life and what seems like good change. I think what helped me when I was living with imposter syndrome was just celebrating the “small victories”. This could mean something simple as enjoying a good cup of coffee or larger like a project well completed. It helped me to manage with the changes and feel less overwhelmed with a new job and/or move. Sounds like you have lots of things to look forward to. Wishing you and your wife the best!
WA is a gorgeous state!
So glad that you are happy where you are living now and feeling better! Thank you for the video!
Have to say straight away buddy. You are looking really well. Wishing you and your wife the very best of wishes. Chris Moad UK England
Thank you for sharing your update Josh. It is so nice to see you again .
Good to hear about your life/work updates, Josh! All the Best!!
Glad to see you back ❤ such a beautiful soul
Hey! I remember being here for your first video and I am so happy to see this update. These changes are really difficult but they feel overall very positive. Can't wait to see how this progresses for you :)
Good to see you back, Josh, and it sounds great. I've been to Seattle a few times and I like it. I suppose "imposter syndrome" goes away eventually, but I still feel it, even after publishing my 6th book (the one we talked about a year ago that I was editing has just come out). I hope things continue to go well for you.
Hi Josh! You're doing good you're doing great. Stay strong and stay positive.
Pacific Northwest is the best. Hope you stick around for awhile, hard to make friends with all that moving around. Always make time for friends, it pays dividends in life. Glad so see you post again!
Hi Josh! Welcome to Seattle. I too live here and love it. You and your personality will fit in just fine with Seattle’s culture. If you are still looking for friends, I would be delighted to be one for you.
Doing a solo trip to Olympic National Park in May. I can’t wait!
Glad to see you back!
I remember very well your first video and fell bad for you even though I didn't relate since I was always good at making and keeping friendships. Having said that, glad to see you are doing well and you really seem an honest and nice guy. Now that years have passed, I have lost several friends due to weird situations and find myself wondering why it seems that now I becoming a loner. The very good thing you have is that you have a wife who is your best friend. If you have that you have the most important. I don't have a wife and believe me, not having really close people in my life is taking a toll.
Welcome back!
Best of luck with your new job and home!
Hi Josh, so great to see you back. You'll be settled! Certainly when you succeeded in living in the town you always wanted to live in. But everything takes time... also this! John van Creij - Holland.
Hello stranger, glad to see you back on here
Hi Josh. Good to see you.
welcome back! Hope you settle in well in Seattle, and to see you closer to family and friends :)
Hey. Don't overthink it or stress yourself out too much with all this. I'm glad you're doing well. I'm also wishing Emily well too.
Moved to Seattle myself in 2022 and I absolutely love it here. There's just something in the air. Still working on building a friend group. I've met a few people but those friendships didn't pan out. Still staying hopeful. I'm 36 (tomorrow) but still very hopeful.
Keep talking to people & also listen to what they say & you'll make friends.
I've made lotsa friends just by going to Mcdonald's
HEY my virtual buddy, IT`S Sooooo good to hear from you! You look good, man! Now I´m gonna hear what you have to say. So exciting
Welcome back to WA. This area is definitely one of the most beautiful places. Let's get coffee 😊
Josh, thanks for your upload. You and I share a birthday and sometimes even I listen to you and your reflections I feel like I'm listening to myself. It's uncanny. I want to recommend that, when things settle down, you plug into a good Church community. I haven't done that but suspect that it's an important key to all of this. Good luck! Rooting for you.
Taking on a new job is tough….and def gets harder when the imposter syndrome creeps in 😓
Damn, it's been a year since the last video? Time passes WILDLY fast. I remember watching the Coworker video like it was yesterday.
Last video was a few months ago and there were a few others. Looks like he privated them now for some reason.
Nice background 😊....watching from Kenya 🇰🇪
Thanks!
Appreciate the coffee! You didn’t need to do that, but I’m thankful nonetheless ❤
Josh, If I remember right, one of your previous videos gave me the impression your suffer from PTSD. If that's the case, being stressed in your new position is not really unusual. I would be more surprised if you didn't have some initial issues at something new, as even "normal" people do. Just keep at it, and eventually you'll settle in. Meantime, you seem to be enjoying your home state surroundings, so that should help you eliminate stress and feel more at ease. Take care & God bless.
Whoa! Josh! Haven't seen you in forever.
I hope seattle works out for you. It's a great west coast state. I live in victoria bc so we're just a boat ride away from you.
Congratulations on your new beginning! I have a question if you don't mind. When you start at a new company with new coworkers, do you usually tell them about your RUclips channel, or do they find out about it gradually? Since your channel isn't just for fun, but more about deep topics like friendship and personal struggles, do they ever mention it if they discover it? I'm just curious how things go when they get to know you through your videos, and if it changes how they treat you. Thank you!
Your tone didn’t come across as sad (to me).
It sounds like you and (your wife) are adjusting to a new chapter, trying to start of on the right side of things. Thank you for giving us an update. Do try to make time for your new/old Seattle friends. All the best Josh!
5:00 If I could correctly rephrase your thought process - it's the void feeling of asking yourself what's next for me now that I no longer have to anticipate/prepare for this dreadful event (eg. sad goodbye leaving places as mentioned) that I'm so used to experience it multiple times in the past. Another way that I heard you say - what shall I achieve next, now that I have already achieved what I had set myself to achieve in the past. Not really the start of an existential crisis but more like the recently freed brain resources that needed something new to work with.
9:00 old habits die hard - how easy it is to go back to putting work as the top most priority in your life above all else. I mean if that's what you actually find fulfilment in your life then it's totally okay to change your mind and embrace it. This may eliminate the action plan of "putting more effort" on keeping up with that one friend you like because the current effort level is already at optimal level.
I'm rambling.
i live in Seattle, You will like it.
I am in a place I always wanted to be….. how lucky!
How did you meet the new couple friends?
As I type this, 206 folks have liked this post. If all 206 had moved to their home state -in a different time zone and new city in order to take a unique job with increased responsibility- all would gain multiple stress points. Each emotion shared in the first 7 minutes is completely normal. Your feelings and reactions are to be expected. You have 1 social interaction under your belt. College friends are in proximity, which is a huge advantage. You conclude with great goals which will improve your life.
Sound is a-ok 😊
I like to have an update of your life

Hi Josh, We’re you in STL previously? Looking to move to Seattle, but I heard it’s hard to make friends. Although I find it hard to make friends here, as well. What’s your take STL vs SEATTLE? Do you still have that online group we can join?
Josh, I wanted to ask if your wife was the complete opposite of you and if that’s what makes your relationship work. Also has uploading these videos opened up any doors for you or just been cathartic 🙏🏼
I've lived here since 1997 and really have no close friends
Maybe u can pick up with old friends u left off with when u moved out of state?
What do you do for a living?
I think he said he is a business analyst of sorts.
I work in Supply Chain as a Sr ISM now 🙏🏼
Well I'm from Seattle - don't live in Seattle ha... Live in Kirkland or Bellevue...
bro moved to the worst city to make friends
Doesn't matter, he fits right in.
It not Toronto at the least
He moved back to the area here he's from, so he can pick up with long lost friends.
Hey
Come unto me, all ye that Labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
1:12 disagree, have you heard of this place called San Diego.
'PromoSM' 🙄
I’ve lived in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego and Austin Texas and Seattle, by far, is the most unfriendly city of them all. Add that to the endless cold rainy weather and Seattle is a rather miserable place to live. I’m glad for those that love it - definitely not for me.
Congratulations on your new job and home. Incidentally, I live in Arkansas. ❤
