because he's not going parallel. These are like half squats. It's good training for when you do remove the training wheels but don't be mistaken for a full natural squat.
The percentages matter!!! You go low enough, you can can easily go that fast. The Mountain Dog reps out hypertrophy sets of 180kgs with the spider bar. 140 with the power bar is nothing for him. John is also gifted with more than just IFBB muscles 😉
@@carl5381 yeah well this depth, just over parallel is where my weak point is, not the bottom so it depends. Also John doesn't go as low because of his lwoer back...
It's a good variation, to mix it up. From experience I know its very important to do the exercise correctly when you are that explosive, the form must be 100% if you go heavy, or the risk of injury is high.
That work Dave does around 9 min mark to tighten up the core was awesome. I don't have that down perfect...but learning to get that much tighter was a HUGE key to increasing lifts and eliminating pain/injury.
That "sternum to pelvic bone" and the "Rock vs Marshmallow" comments helped a ton to conceptualize the cues and gave me the language to explain them. Great video!
not a big deal for most people but thank you for blanking out the language - I know I can always watch this channel with my kids within earshot - even when Dave Tate is around!
I love John expression when the gentleman was speaking. It show he really listened in and taking in all the tips. I made me smile because it reminded me of my own expression whenever John was giving tips and cues.
Man, I wish I could still squat. Lumbar issue - no more squats or deadlifts. Loved squatting and watching this really makes me miss it. You guys that can still do squats, go enjoy a good leg day.
@@rockon8174 would love access to that or a pendulum machine or even a hack squat machine. I do some front squats/split squats with light weight, BSS, lunges and leg press. I just miss loading up the bar and hearing the plates rattle. Thnx!!
@Stephen Thacker Yep. BSS and leg press are my 'heavy' days. I do Coach John's 'BSS of Doom' drop sets. It's a total killer. Would love access to a hack machine but small local gym.
Man, the difference in quality of your reps vs the other guys (no disrespect intended) is so apparent. The Tate and Meadows duo is phenomenal as usual. Such a useful video.
I've recently started introducing my nephew (13) to weight training. Man, it really makes me respect good coaches like Dave and John! I have to break down my cues and get so creative with them to simplify them to the level that he understands. Honestly, love him or hate him, but Rippetoe does a fine job of advising how to teach rank novices.
I absolutely love this squat video John. Really great technique and explanation of the movement. Squats are now part of my obsession, and I've noticed so much more flexibility and strength in my core, glutes, thighs and hams as a result. I'm much stronger on deads, leg presses etc as a result also. Thanks John!
It’s the same as static hold at the beginning start of rep and end of the rep, the recruitment and mind muscle connection , still a tough work done as you are literally controlling the eccentric and “bomb” out the concentrate
Mr. John Meadows, hope you have time to answer my question! I don't have a box so I have been doing this except with deep pause squats. Getting down just past parallel, pausing for one second, then exploding with as much power as I can muster for 12-20 singles with about 30 seconds to a minute in between. I wave it 4 weeks starting at 45% of max weight and going up 5% each week, then I start over and just keep trying to get faster. Do you think this is a decent alternative? Should I try doing it off a bench to emulate a box until I have one available? Thank you, love your content, especially collabs!
Hi John, is it okay to eat the same amount of calories on the days you are doing a 24 hour fast if it doesn't make you sick (while bulking). And are there any pros doing 24 hour fast in the offseason? Thanks and appreciate the content!
Are you guys resting on the box, or are you keeping constant tension? I just procured a box and I want to properly incorporate it, but I want to get it right.

Your speed off the box is incredible like there is no weight at all.
Dave's techniques must work. He makes the sticking point look like it doesn't exist.

It’s probably the single most important thing actually, cost me a disc learning this

Glad it helped!

I love how Dave will talk smack about you while you're lifting the weights! lol

That squat rack is pretty awesome.
Looks like it would be right at home in a garage lifting cars lol.
Device for fat people😀
Yeah monolifts are pretty sweet. My gyms got one but it’s literally always broken.
When you said “we have another 4-6 videos coming after this one” I was so happy. Loved this video John
Right before leg day too 🔥🔥👌🏻

This is good reinforcement for me - I get confused on how to get the most out of a dynamic box squat. This sets me on the correct path - Thank you!!!
Love these old school guys no bullshit and most importantly brilliant advice
Amazing how quickly you guys can flip the switch and go from casual training to all out intensity, awesome video!
Hi John when you and Dave get together the amount of knowledge you share with us is phenomenal. Very best wishes. Jim Harrison. Chester. UK.
Dave Tate collaborations are always awesome to watch❤️👌
These are my favorite and it really help build the muscle mind connection. I find this gives me the best way to contract the quads.

Use a front squat leverage machine. Keeps pressure off your back.
