I have both the Mini and Alpha and I love them both. My Mini is now sleeping as a back-up, praying nothing ever happens to my Alpha. They are both amazing and I recommend them both. He is spot on in this review. The Alpha is known as the end-game base from the majority of the community, the ultimate being if you are looking into more immersion. But if you are into the competition, the Alpha is enough. The Mini is perfect and no slouch. Hope this helps.

Hey Jack, love this video and also all of your many recent videos. What I’m mostly interested in is the granular detail on a high force wheel vs a lower force wheel as I hear running the same force on each the higher force will have better fidelity. I have a mini myself and currently couldn’t imagine needing more torque but am a fiend for more detail and performance, if it means I need to buy the ultimate but dial it back to lower force I would :). Love your videos man don’t stop.

My progression was Logitech G920 -> Fanatec CSL DD (8Nm) -> Simagic Alpha.
Each one an improvement on the previous once dialled in to suit snd I honestly can't imagine anyone needing more than the Alpha (as opposed to wanting).
Officially it's 15Nm but tests have shown it output 18.5Nm peak torque - more than enough power and detail.

I do have a question about the holding torque. Is it 10nm holding torque? I read somewhere that it could go all the way up to 13. Simagic never confirmed this but they confirmed that they didnt cut the power on the alpha mini. I guess ill get my answer about clipping when i first go through eau rouge. But that thought havnt left me alone.

  • @Mister_Pen

i ordered my alpha mini two days ago. I had a moza r9 before and i wasnt happy with the ffb as it felt kinda muddy. The 9nm on the moza was a bit low, well it was quite good but at high speed corners it could clip. I hope i'll stay happy with the alpha mini for atleast 1 - 1,5 years. For me its better to lose 200-300 dollars in 1,5 years than paying it now due to how life is atm. Im quite excited. I'm currently using the Fanatec GT DD Pro (on the PS5) that I bought last year during those Black Friday sales which after waiting more than a month for it and not receiving it on time made me put an order for the Logitech G Pro which I received in less than two weeks. I plan on getting the middle Simagic Alpha after I build a PC next year but wonder what are the screws size and type that these wheel base from Simagic use. I'm using a Sim-Lab TR1 and don't plan on switching to anything else since I like how it looks (the TR8 Pro looks nice too) compared to the rest of sim racing cockpits that I've seen.

I originally had a simagic alpha mini, fx pro, and p2000 pedals. I still have the pedals, but grew out of the wheel base and wanted more. Went to a simucube 2 pro, and use gsi wheels. The fx pro, I did find that the handles were very loose. Felt like they were gonna snap, I did get a replacement plate that has the grips attached, but sold the wheel when I got rid of the base. The alpha mini I had no issues with, just craved more. The pedals I still use, but have had the hydraulics on the brake replaced since they leaked and have had to replace the throttle as well for leaking. Great pedals but with the issues I’ve had I’d recommend just getting p1000 pedals. I will say replacements from simagic were great, but now I am out of warranty which is concerning.

I believe that using a linear encoder like the one in the simucube would help me become faster, allowing almost simultaneous input of my steering actions into the game. However, the simucube is quite expensive. When I was recently looking for a substitute for the simucube, I came across the conspit ares, which also uses a linear encoder.

I loved loves 8 to 12nm wheelbases. But now that ive went over to 20+nm wheelbases i cant go back. Just the headroom, dynamic range and the way the details come through the loading and unloading its just so incredible. Dd wheelbases really really do benefit from strong motors. Is it a must? No is it a perk? Yes. Enjoy what you get for sure but some dont think its worth getting high nm wheelbases they go ill never use it! Well guess what Indont either lol i legit use 12nm to 14nm max but even when you use a 23nm or 25nm wheelbase at 8 to 10nm it feels stronger then a 10nm wheelbase does. Just how it works it kicks harder and details are just more potent. So yeah its not really about turning it all the way up.
Just a heada up for people buying.
Again this isnt me saying go get one! Its just saying there are perks to it. Many who own lower nm wheelbases dont get it and they will tell you omg idk how you would use more. Well its not about using more you could use it the same and still get benefits.
But then you have people like will who does reviews but hes always lowrring the nm in the software which shouldnt be done. It should be all the way up in the software and reduced in game so you get the full benefits. So to him yeah some wheelbases will feel similiar set to the same nm but again with higher nm wheelbases its always reccomended to use it maxed in software and llwered in game. Its just much more potent with details and the way it reacts. If you instead lower it in software you are limiting the dyanmic range.
Example: wheelbase set to 10nm in software on a 20nm wheelbase then maxed out in game. Will not get the benefits or the potency or the dynamic range you get setting to 20nm in software and then using it st even 40 or 50% in game. That will feel much better and feel much more of that range it has. Simailiar strength to the other setting but everything else is more potent.
So it also cones down to settings and how you use it. If you limit its max potential it will feel similiar if you dont you will feel what its offering.
    Great video as always!

I have a bit of a dilemma, black friday sale or wait for the new generation of wheel bases next year. It seems like you're not waiting around since you'll get the Alpha.
Is your assessment that the next generation 2025 gear is unlikely to be a game changer? Thats my assumption but who knows. Plus it might not be worth the price differnce for the new stuff when you can pay less for a product has almost just as good force feedback from this current generation.
