Maybe it is the nostalgia takimg hold of me but i still think the metal scene in the 90s was one of the most exciting musical and cultural movements ever. So many good bands, each one with their innovative sound, recordings done on tape... i miss those days.
Its because metal in the 90s was still genuine. Before the nu-metal fakery!!

The early to mid 90s were metals creative and artistic peak imo, so many varied and different things going on. The emergence of the "extreme metal" genres that grew from 80s thrash in death, doom/sludge and black metal. All the weird and wackyness of the Alternative metal boom which was an entire world of its own. Pantera on top as the more approaching something like mainstream band. I mean when a band like Pantera is in that role you know it's a ridiculous time.
I hate it when people say the 90s sucked for metal or a article claims its looked on as a low point. What they are referring too there is the nu metal boom or the bigger bands of the 80s like metallica and megadeth exploring a more mainstream sound with mixed results. That's far from the entire story of 90s metal.

when my parents thought i was smoking crack and worshiping satan listening to heavy metal in my bedroom, unbeknownst to them, i was reading Barney's lyrics and transcending into something else. it was serendipitous. the lyrics to this song are more relevant today in 2022 as they were 30 years ago. Same as it ever was...Hail Napalm. Mick rules.

I want to visit that alternate universe where Mick Harris stays the drummer for Napalm Death and every record retains that balance between chaos and groove that only he could do. He wrote a ton of the songs on guitar as well for a while. The whole grindcore genre owes that guy huge cred for just being the hyperactive ball of energy he is.

Just discovered Napalm Death in 1990 when I was 14. Then I saw this video on MTV. I was shocked. Between all the many new death releases this was totally standing out. Bought the EP the next day. Until today one of my all-time classics.

Been in the scene since age 11 and now I'm 52. Favorite song of all-time...growls, heavy beat changes, no guitar solos, ferocity...it all works for me.

Watching this in mtv decades ago I appreciated beyond the music the editing. Not like you do it today, digitally with a few clicks, this is analog film. What a hell of workload the had to edit such a progressive video.

Fucking love this era of Napalm. Napalm Mach 1, 2 , and 3 were phenomenal. Sony kinda cleaned em up too much. Then Jesse passed. I still appreciate the musical ability, but they’ve been treading on metalcore waters. Go ahead and hate me, but I miss the straight grind that made them legends. And yes, I am an old head that tuned out from Carcass when they started playing “ U.F.O. Riffs”. And I’m gonna say it, Napalm haven’t been grindcore for years. Crucify me now

First time I heard this in 92 I thought it was hilarious his name was barney because of the dino Raaaaawrs in this song. This and carcass were the first bands I heard without "clean" vocals. My friends older brother was huge into both bands and met them in a bar around this time. Ive been a fan ever since and ND is still in my top three favorite bands of all time in any genre.
