I am just using the kit I bought from you for the first time today. I ignored your salient advice to try a junk knife first, and went straight to the carving knife we need for Thanksgiving today. The system works fantastic, even in a novice's hands! I love that the position is up high where I can see what's happening and maintain good position. The misting system works perfect and is easily adjusted to keep the belt moist but not spray all over. This is an excellent use for my Revolution grinder!

Dang! That's a really sweet kit! I love the magnetic mister. That's super nice. Drilling and tapping for your mister is a real pain than if you decide you don't like its location then you have to do it all over again.
Thanks again for showing the mister. I got mine setup and it works great. What I did is to loosen the platen plate and push it to the rear. Then I used the area between the platen rollers to sharpen my knives. To me it is a more comfortable area to hold the knives. The first blade I did was my axe. It did a fantastic job. It ended up having almost a mirror finish on the blade. I love it. Thanks again.

I have to agree, using a belt grinder is the easiest way to make a knife very sharp. I have a Harbor Freight 1x30 that I use all the time. My favorite belt is an 800 grit aluminum oxide. Water seems like a nice addition, but I don't see how I could get any sharper.

Hi Robert, that switch is very easy to install. It's 3 wires that plug into the control board and the instructions come with the switch. Probably take you 5 minutes total. Hope that helps.

I don't normally comment but man your production quality is up there with the 2m+ ytbers. Also great narration and to the point. It's a shame it took 3 months of related videos to see one of these pop up. Mostly searching for black smithing.
Great system! I would not do this without a mist system, it's been shown many times over to degrade the hardness at the edge significantly. With a mist system you are good to go! Still need to try the Norax belts. Great walk through 👍
Maybe if you lower the RPM and don’t stay too long on one segment of the knife. Also pause in between passes then you prob will avoid overheating your knife edge.
@@norakat micro Vickers hardness testing at the very edge has shown that without water it's almost impossible to to not affect the hardness at the very edge. After a few sharpenings on stones that area can be removed, but water mist is such a simple and cheap solution I don't know why people refuse to try it.

Love your technique from begging to end and I totally agree with your comments on the Tormek system as well. Had a look at the FAQs section on your page so will ask herein... wondering if I could use just a small 12v air pump to power the water spray system or do you feel an actual workshop type compressor is absolutely needed. You know, I don't know the answer. My gut would say it won't work. You need air pressure to make these work as they pull a vacuum while doing it. A small pancake compressor Does work though.

I really believe I was watching another video and mistakenly clicked on yours by mistake!! I’ll tell you why I say that, if anyone knows I’m against too much speed when sharpening blades it’s me!!! I used to use a 1x30 to sharpen blades until I found that my blades wouldn’t stay sharp !! Come to find out I was sharpening the hardnesses right out of my blades by going to fast !!! I really thought I was doing something spectacular!! After I got my 2x72 I couldn’t believe how I felt so good knowing I wasn’t ruining my blades!!! My friend as I said before, I believe I sent that comment by mistake and please believe there was no malice in it at all !!! If anyone knows speed kills it’s me , I love making knives and I’ve learned a lot from your tips and I thank you for them !!’
Right on, Brian! I was just wondering yesterday if you could use a water Mist while knife-making, to reduce the amount of heat built up in the Steel. It looks like that is doable! Great info, keep up the great work!
Hey Brian, how do you keep your machine looking so nice when you're running water on it? I'm not done building my revolution v4 yet, but I really like the look of raw metal, so I bought some paste wax and plan to finish it with that. Any tips? Not sure if others wonder this as well, but it might be a useful video idea
A real nice sharpening system! I personally prefere waterstones, but for a more mass production like work, this is the way to go! Also, are there any plans on creating a Revolution Stand for the grinder? I am on the hunt for a DIY solution for a metal/wood stand. Maybe you know somewhere where I could look for one?
No immediate plans for a stand, but I have been thinking about building one for my demo unit. If I come up with something easy Ill make sure to make a video.

Yeah it’s hit or miss for me too. Sometimes I do both. The leather is definitely a better option. Someone mentioned MDF wheels? I’ve not tried that yet.

Plus it's harder for me to control the blade and angle. The grinder method is by far the best to date for me. I can get hair whittling sharp in about 3 min on a new blade
Because of where you’re doing this there’s an obvious mounting opportunity so you could use the tour Mac attachments to achieve the correct angles I know you say you can get a sharper and you may feel that’s true but it certainly won’t be as consistent and accurate and anyone who is doing this for A living or even a side hustle it’s going to need consistency especially if there’s more than one person in the equation the same result no matter who does it is essential
Going into the leather strop 😧.. that looks dangerous. Also not worried about water getting into your hub bearings or other parts in the sander that rust?

100% agree. The magnet allows for quick removal too if you need to get rid of it. Or move it to another tool.

It’s so easy on a 2x72. I used to use a whetstone and then work sharp and now just my grinder lol literally get razor sharp in less than a minute

Hey Brian, what is the smallest size compressor that one can use on this? Would it be possible to use a fish tank air pump a large one?
It uses such a small amount of air that any compressor will work. I am not sure about a fish tank pump though.

The water is acting as a coolant and also binding with the dust to keep that down as well.

I do very little other than just wiping it down. I plan on trying paste wax to see if that could be a good option.

That would work too. The entire belt is soaked so it cools very well.

@@HouseMadeUS for the safety of your edges, the leather and diamond compound would be the best, unless you use an MDF/paper when on the Tormec.

The belt is running in reverse. Not going into the blade. Very safe. I wipe my machine down, zero corrosion issues. Just maintenance. Cheers.
