- We finally go the Shed to Coop finished and will be moving it out the hill around March of 2021.
We added a cabinet to store feed & misc supplies, got all the trim done in the ceiling area and its been working out great! Pretty Girl is our only chicken right now but we are getting 8 or 10 baby chicks in March to keep her company.
About us:
We have always lived a simple life from the day we got married in 2005, we purchased the small house on 4 acres and have remodeled the entire house to fit our needs. We are working our way to a more self-efficient and sustainable lifestyle.
Hope to learn as we grow, and help others along the way.
We are excited about developing our property as a working Homestead.
Stay tuned it's going to be a fun ride!
Thanks!
Tony Ray & Patty

That is the luckiest stray chicken I’ve ever seen!
She was a good girl she's gone now just came out of the woods one day.
Wonderful!
Glad you think so thank you for your comment!
Very nice coop! I like the idea of the sand tray under the roost bar.
Thank you ! Yeah I looked at many ways to do the roost drop area & this really works well. You just use a cat litter scoop to clean it out very easy.
Just put a solid piece of vinyl flooring over your existing flooring instead of taking parts of it up and it will be seamless! Just a thought!
I thought about that but its doing fine now I took up some pcs and re- installed some of the flooring that didnt clicked in good.
Love it!❤
Thank you!!
Looks great 😊
Thank you! 😊
I think pretty girl is spoiled LOL....Looks great. Thanks for sharing
Yes she is she needs some company. We have baby chicks 🐤 coming in a few weeks.
Thank you for stopping by our channel.🤗
Thank you for sharing, this will help us with our shed to coop conversion!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for turning me on to the chicken coop looking to do the same thing this spring
Your welcome I hope it turns out well for you! Hope we helped inspire you with a few ideas. Let us know how it turns out! Thanks Chris !
Construction sand will be perfect for your floor
How awesome and fun thank you for sharing I hope everything’s coming along just fine love from Arkansas
All good thank you so much!
This is a great makeover. I love all the storage you've created. I just started with chickens myself, I have 5 sweet girls and a small coop. I'm really wanting to expand, and I love your ideas
For the bedding, I used pine shavings at first but the ammonia was horrible. Now I use the deep litter method and it's been amazing. Personally, I wouldn't use anything else. Not having to clean it out but once a year is a big plus!
Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I have heard of the deep liter bedding. I thought about it might try it in the future.
I watched a lot of videos before I built my coop this one here seems to work really well for now.
thanks again !
The cabinet for feed is a great addition to keep it close by but secure 😄
Absolutely I might put another under that one.
Really nice conversion. Perfect for me because I basically have the same shed layout w/ doors and window in the same place
Its really a great setup because you can walk in without bending over like in a normal coop. Do you have a video of your coop?
You did an absolute phenomenal job!
Thank you so much for stopping by our channel!
That is the cleanest coop I've ever seen! 😵 Very nice!
Lol yeah well we only have one chicken right now...wait till we get 8 or 10 more. I do clean it every day that helps. thanks for stopping by our ch!
@@OurBackwoodsHomestead ok, that makes sense now! lol
I like the "litter" area idea, that's pretty cool!
@@SuttonHobbyFarm it makes it really easy to clean.
Thank you, I loved watching all your videos in this series. I have a large garden shed that was here when I bought the house, and I'd love to make half of it into a coop. My hens freerange all day long in the backyard now, and I have a small coop/run for them at night, so I'm really not sure I NEED anything else, but... lol
That is awesome! I'm so thankful you watched the video. I hope they will give you some ideas of how to do yours!
Very nice! I also have a shed house. I want to place a partition on one side of my shed. The other side will be for some supplies and our washer and dryer… but then the other side will be for my little chickens. Thanks for sharing! Helping me get ideas!
That's a great idea! Thank you I'm what we did helped you that's our purpose is to show how we do things. Then you can come up with your own ideas as well.
Cabinet door snaps might work good for the Dutch door!
That's a good idea I like that gonna do that. Thank you!
This coop turned out amazing!
Thank you we saved a lot by converting the shed....now we have to move it up the hill out back and build the run.
Love your coop sign!
Thank you my wife made it and came up with the name.
Your coop is great! I found that hens will lay there eggs in the hay on the floor instead of their boxes. Hay in boxes and wood chips on the floor!
Thank you for your comment. yeah I'm gonna get some chopped hay for the nest boxes, I have shavings on the floor right now...but still might try sand. I guess what works best.
That coop looks great! Thanks for all the ideas 😁 I would suggest woodchips for the floor. But I don't have chickens so 🤣
Thank you we are happy with how it turned out. Yeah I do like the idea of wood chips I've seen others use them. I do like the construction sand because the easiness of shifting like kitty litter .
Hey, great looking coop! I’m planning on doing something similar with my roost boxes. Question…what are the dimensions of your roost boxes?
Thanks for stopping by the channel! Normally they are 12 x 12. Ours are 11 x 12 tall because of the space.
They like to be cozy it also depends on your bird size at adult size.
You'll be fine with 12x12.
thanks Tony
How do your chickens get out to their run? And Pretty Girl needs some flock mates
I let them out now and then through the door.
Great coop, what brand of sand did you go with? Thank!
Thank you ! We used a construction sand from Home Depot it has more gravel in it & sifts kinda like kitty litter.
I love that sign! The hen house is looking good. I've wondered too, about using sand?
Hey I didn't know you were on RUclips I just subscribed to your ch.
Yes I think I'm gonna try it this spring and see how it works out.
@@OurBackwoodsHomestead I didn't know that you had a RUclips channel either, until I saw your last post on Instagram. 🤣😂 As you can see, I don't post much on yt. I had more videos but I deleted them a while back. I've thought about doing a homesteading channel, but I don't have much excitement around here, nothing to record really, it would just be boring stuff. Plus, I can't come up with a good name for a homesteading channel. Lol.
@@BackInTimeHomestead well I think you should its a way to document all the stuff you do....you can come up with content like the raised beds you did that would be a good video.
Just use your name or where you are as a name....like Jeep Girl Homestead....or something like that.
First
How big is your storage area? And how big is the area for the chickens?
If you mean my Chicken coop? its 10x10 my chicken run area is 12 x 24 ft long & 8 ft high.
That gives them plenty of room to run around and get sun during the daylight hours.
What kind of screws you use for the wire cloth ?
Hello I used these in the link real easy and neat to hold down the hardware cloth.
