My young son and I had the pleasure of accidentally meeting Ron Bushy and his dad at a Chinese buffet restaurant in Corona California. We sat there eating Chinese food, and for some reason one of the two men in the next booth to us looked familiar. As they got up to leave they walked past our booth and I asked, "excuse me, but is your name Ron?" He said yes, I asked if he was a musician, he said yes. I said "drummer for Iron Butterfly?" He said YES, anyway we chatted for 10 minutes with Ron his elderly dad that day. Ron was pleasant and talkative, his dad was wearing a blue Navy baseball cap. We discussed San Diego, drumming, and fame. I have terrific memories of our random encounter with drummer Ron Bushy👍
RIP Ron & all original members! Saw them on their first USA tour in KC. Stood with elbows resting on the stage right in front of their 17 yr old guitarist Eric. It was a blast, with him & the bass player playfully punching each other in the arms throughout the show. My first big concert branded into my memory forever! So grateful!
Very Cool! In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, was the first alum I ever bought. As a young teenage drummer, Bushy's solid drumming influenced me greatly.
I still have Heavy, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, and Ball, on original vinyl that I bought new as a teenager. I was always a fan.
R.I.P. Doug Ingle...the last butterfly
Metamorphosis is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor and try it out. The addition of Pinera and Rhino brought the band to a new level of excellence. After all of these years, it still sounds fresh and innovative. Shortly after its release the band broke up and Lee Dorman and Larry Rhineheart formed the band Captain Beyond and recorded their brilliant debut album, also very worth checking out.
You’re absolutely right about Metamorphosis. Get it in high definition format. Amazing and timeless.
Great album as is Captain Beyonds first album. My friend Jamie toured with Captain Beyond as their guitarists. I miss alot of these bands so much talent.
My dad introduced me to this band when I got into hard rock and metal as a kid. He said it's nothing new. This was metal in the 60s
When I was a teen I got to play a dual drum solo with Ron Bushy to demo some new fiberglass drums. What an amazing drummer!
Thank you Ron....appreciated by the Butterfly Army😅
Saw Iron Butterfly on the metamorphosis tour with black oak and John manning!! Killer show by all!!
I thought I was the only one who still loved their music. Everyone loves the tale of how when they played with Zep in 1969, Zep stole the show. What some of these bands went through to get just a modicum of success is unbelievable. Yes, I agree. Metamorphosis! And "Ball" is much better than people know. I have a great LP copy in that funky gatefold with someone's name written in red magic marker on that bright yellow cover. The LP itself is NM.
In the garden of eden.... wow... the solution to the puzzle after decades. thank you so !! this song was played in our club over years and is today the best example to explain "analog" , the voice is so unique and goes deep into someone, the drums a masterpeace
I thought "In The Garden of Eden" was commen knowledge. I heard Ron's story as a kid. On the liner notes maybe?
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was the first LP I ever bought. In sixth grade Using money from my paper route. Getting up at 5 o'clock every morning. Always a fan and happy to find this video! Also... Covered the great song "Soul Experience" from the "Ball" album in my 1st band... The bass intro is genius!
Iron Butterfly was the 1st real concert I ever saw , it was 1974🤔 1973 ? in Smithers BC , Canada .
From what my memory of it was , it was excellent .... I'm 64 now .
Wore out many copies of Metamorphosis! My fav was Butterfly Bleu 🤘🏻
Always loved "So-lo". Because it was was on the debut, pre-fame album, it seems to get passed over, but it's hooky as hell.
The music at the very end is really beautiful. Can anyone tell me where that is from? April 4, 1970 my first rock concert, I was 15. iron Butterfly, James Gang, Blues Image RIP, all of the four who made that second album.
RE: You wrote, "The music at the very end is really beautiful."... At what minute and seconds does it start? We will look it up,
@@IronButterflyCollective 12:08 until the very end. Thank you! April 5, 1970 My first rock concert, I was 15. iron Butterfly, James Gang, Blues Image. The beginning of my life as I know it now.
Back in 1969 i had the pleasure of getting to see them play at The Atlantic City Pop Fest & then at The Shady Grove Music Fair in MD. What a fine show they turned in at both concerts & at Shady Grove at the end of Inna gadda da vida Eric stepped back & knock over one of the two huge lamps they had on each side of the stage & they were filled with lamp oil & had these long flames shooting up during the crescendo & it started a fire onstage but they played though it & we all thought is a part of the show but it sure wasn't & thankfully the roadies ran out before it really got going & got it out out . Smoke all over the Hall & everyone cheering !!! That's one show i will never forget & was only 14 & had my older sister who was one of two hippie gals of the 60s & i was learning to play guitar so they took me to many great concerts till i was old enough to drive. AH the 60s & early 70s were way to much fun. Sad that Iron Butterfly missed their spot at Woodstock as that would have a sight to see & hear. So close as The Atlantic City Pop Fest was two weeks before Woodstock & The Texas International Pop Fest was two weeks after Woodstock. My folks wouldn't let me go to Woodstock but my sisters did . many acts from Atlantic City did play at Woodstock as well. Iron butterfly was one fun & creative bands & all the guitarists were killer players as was Doug & Lee & though Ron was a simple player he had good chops & feel & they were sort of strapped down by Vida but those albums all had great songs on them as did the new band after Eric split .
The drum solo was not that complicated critics failed to realize it fit the song perfectly it was part of the song i couldn't imagine any other drum solo in it's place i believe that's why In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was so successful sometimes less is more.,. RIP Ron
I was fortunate to have seen Iron Butterfly with the original 5 members, not long after their first album was released. The show was on the Sunset Strip. I don't recall the name of the venue. My future wife & I really enjoyed watching Daryl DeLoach work the tambourine.
I like there album ball which I had as a kid. And inagaddavida of coarse
During the heyday of Butterfly I was into Hendrix & Mountain.
However, I was unable to resist
adding Iron Butterfly (one of the earliest Heavy Metal Bands) into a very restricted Record collection!!
Butterfly will always be in my ❤ when I think of the 1960's...
Thank you Ron Bushy for the true story of Iron Butterfly!!
Almost forgot!! Mr. Bushy, I saw a movie from 1954 called The "Egyptian".. In this movie there are Girls dancing to Drums.. What the Drums were playing, were almost exactly what you played on the "Vida" solo..
Were you somehow inspired by this movie Soundtrack?
Hope very much this question doesn't offend you Sir...
Whoops!! I did not realize Mr. Bushy had passed away
Ron Bushy - John Bonham - Kieth Moon!! Heaven must have one he'll of a Band By now!!!!
Ah, the memories of L.A. in the 1960's
I was lucky enough to see them on their last tour with Doug Ingle - what a precious moment!
Metamorphosis is a great album…Stone Believer and Easy Rider are on quite a few playlists I’ve made. They’re filmed live in Denmark (?) and do a few songs from Metamorphosis and are outstanding. Mike Pinera kicks ass!
Heavy really influenced me and I was thirsting for hard rock and it gave me that. I never liked in a gada da vida and never heard any of the other music but will have to check out metamorphisis, Great to know the story. Thanks.
I looooovvve the Metamorphosis album... wish they'd done more.
love that car from the beginning parts, looks almost like my bugeye sprite
TRES Heavy
I was at the Newport Pop Festival & the band was stellar! The Chambers Brothers also went down a storm. Sony & Cher got booed during their intro! Were parts of the video AI generated? It also sounded like his voice was AI also. It does make the dialog more interesting to listen to with imagery even though at times it is a bit far fetched.
Yea, it definitely has that weird uncanny valley AI thing going on. But interesting none the less.
I was there too at the Costa Mesa fairgrounds at the age of 13 my first concert.
Flip Inna Over! 🧇 🦋
Ron signed the underside of my "73 Camaro at a gig in Pa. Can't remember the year. About 20 years ago maybe??? LOL
Inna: Metaphysical 💊
Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida, the ONLY drum solo that I ever loved! (...and I am a drummer) 👍😎👍
Seriously? It's awful
Oh man what about Bill Lordan's solo on Trower's Alethea at Winterland 75'?
Funny how they played on the same bill with Led Zeppelin.
With both bands having that Heavy/Light theme to their names...
Iron Butterfly 🦋
Led Zeppelin 🔥. Also...
Stone Feather🪶...
Stewart Copeland's 🚔
pre-Curved Air/Police band. Cheers!
That's the song you wanted with the girl you crushed on for the last dance.
