- A demonstration of the 3 top of the line Spruce top, Rosewood back and sides Godin guitars! The Norman ST68 Anthem, the Godin Fairmount LTD Rosewood and the Seagull Artist Studio. All 3 guitars come with the LR Baggs Anthem Mic+Piezo blend EQ system as well as a custom moulded Godin made TRIC case.

The Godin metropolis ltd natural is by far the very top-shelf Godin acoustic. I own one and it plays and sounds as good as any Martin D28 I've ever played.

Thanks for the review. I love Godin and Seagull guitars, I just played the Godin Fairmount/Metropolis, all 3 versions of it in a shop and I was very disappointed with the finish, plasticy binding, action sky high. My S6 is beat up and dinged well worn but it still sounds way better, amazing guitars for the money the S6. Godin really need to look at the finish on the Metropolis, it's an issue for them lately, the S8 mandolin I bought the pickguard glue was a gooey mess the retailer had to refund me 10% because of this major oversight on the part of Godin
I just got my Seagull Artist Series Concert Hall in part on your recommendation. I absolutely love it! Sounds amazing and far beyond my expectations! I personally feel it’s Seagulls best guitar! (Sadly they discontinued it) a Martin of similar size and structure would cost nearly double if not triple. Thank you for the recommendations! Really love my new Axe!
I'm so happy you got one!! (I personally own one) and I sold my Martin, I had literally no use for it because the Seagull had a better tone, better action AND the LR Baggs Anthem!
How do you compare this model to a Martin? Closest comparison would be a 000-28. What’s your opinion? Thanks!
@@Bigasstbone I'd say you're spot on! The Seagull Artist Studio is most similar to the Martin 000-28E. Only main differences would be the Seagull has a Richlite fingerboard, a wider nut and a herringbone rosette as well as purfling. I was actually thinking of getting a 000-28E with the LR Baggs Anthem before I realized the Seagull Artist Studio has all that for 1700ish rather than 5000ish!
@@TheOctaveMusicCentre The Other Difference would be the Dovetail neck that comes with higher end Martins. I don't know if that makes a huge difference in sound. I can tell you that is a huge expense for the Martin guitars. I honestly don't know how significant it is.
@@Bigasstbone The biggest thing with neck joints is more about the "ease" of resetting a neck. Dovetail joint necks are significantly easier to repair and reset than bolt on acoustic necks. I know Taylor used to have a lot of bolt on necks in their entry level guitars maybe 8 years ago but I think they've moved onto different construction methods since.
Thanks good review and info. Wonder what the sound difference is if they were all the same model? I heard the old Norman's with the red maple leaf were outstanding I have never played one though but have the seagulls Simon and Patrick and Art and Lutherie. The Simon and Patrick Woodland PRO solid spruce and solid mahogany are rarer then hens teeth to find in the dreadnaught size. Woodland and Songsmith are common in the used " market" Maybe the did not make many or no one wants to part with them :-)
My wife plays a Norman ST 68 dread, what an under appreciated guitar! Purchased new in late 2021, I believe it was older stock. Ebony fretboard and bridge, solid rosewood back and sides, sounds better than the Gibson she played previously. So much value for under $1200 CAD delivered

hi, I was wondering how you'd compare the seagull Artist Mosaic to the signal series st68 ..if you might know. They're both around the same price, im wondering which overall was/is to your preference. Thanks.
My preference is the Seagull Artist Studio. I find the 1.8" nut is much better for fingerstyle as well as makes the neck nice to just grip my hand around while I'm strumming chords as well. If you prefer the slimmer neck profile and the 1.72" nut then I would suggest you go for the Norman or the Godin Fairmount.
I just discovered your channel. Awesome. I own the Seagull Artist Studio CH. I traded a beautiful Martin 000-17 for it. The neck on the Martin was causing me all kinds of wrist pain. Pain aside .. I don’t miss the Martin at all. I absolutely love the Seagull...so much so that I now play more than I ever have. The low end isn’t as boomy as the Martin, but it’s still present.. however I never understood about clarity of sound before. The Seagull is simply amazing. I still go into guitar shops to make sure that I couldn’t have gotten anything better at twice the price (My budget was 3k). Nope..still can’t be done.
I did change my strings to Martin Authentic Custom Lights. It took the Seagull to another level altogether. I highly recommend you give them a try on that guitar.
pro tip : you can watch movies on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies recently.

Do you by chance have the measurements on string spacing for the Norman? Does the 1.72 inch nut feel cramped for finger style at all? nice playing by the way!
Thank you! I don't have the string spacing on hand, but I can say I feel more comfortable on the 1.8" seagull when it comes to more intricate stuff. However the 1.72" feels better for stuff like John Mayer's Who Says or Kansas' Dust in the Wind. So if you're looking for something that doubles as a singer's guitar, I'd go Norman. If you want to do specifically finger style arrangements without vocals, go Seagull.

Thanks for the video. I have 3 questions if thats alright.
1) Which is your favourite of the 3?
2) Do you know why the top on the st68 is a different color?
3) Does the Godin Fairmount have the same smoothness of feel as the ST68's back neck (not the width of the nut, but just the smoothness). In pics, the Fairmount looks like it has that shiny finish which I dont like cause it's sticky and compromises playability and feel.

My favourite is the Seagull because of the nut width and with the Godin, the early models had a gloss finish on the neck but they quickly made them with satin finishes. Ours has the satin finish on the back of the neck
Not sure if I missed it. Does the Seagull have a Ritchlite fingerboard as well?

The Seagull is Richlite as well! And for Simon and Patrick, sadly Godin seems to have let them go as a staple. They are now just clones of Art & Lutherie for Long and McQuade. They used to have super cool models and unique tonewoods in the Nature Elements series to be specific. But now it seems Godin doesn't mind leaving them aside while they focus on the new Seagull, Godin and Norman lines.

Their Showcase series are pretty nice, especially the solid rosewood backed dreadnaught and that concert hall model with the old-timey slotted headstock. The Woodland Pros as well. I may snatch up some old-new stock S&P on Reverb if I can find anything.

The ST68 is smaller than a SJ200 however we are sold out of ST68s so I'm not able to give you measurements.

Is Concert Hall bigger bigger than GS mini? It looks pretty small when you hold it. I guess you are a big guy, :)
The concert hall is a little bigger than the GS Mini, as well as having the full 25.5” scale!
The GS mini has a 23.5 inch scale length, I believe. It is a travel size guitar.
not to be in the detail, but the fairmount isnt the actual LTD model and have mahogany back & side. The ltd model have the big inlay all over the fretboard and the normal model have only one at the 12th
This is a Rosewood model, it is just one of their prototypes before they mass released the LTD Rosewood. So this one does have the dot inlays rather than all the Godin ones, but other than that it is the same guitar.

My favourite is the Seagull, I have mammoth hands so the 1.8 inch nut is wonderful as well as the flying bird inlay I think is such a pretty touch!
@@TheOctaveMusicCentreI see and like 1.8inch neck as well. I am really curious why Seagull dropped Artist CH Rosewood line. Only Hog CH is avail now. Do you know the reason? I liked the overtine of Rosewood model.
@@jaeyooncho2712 I don't know for sure but a friend I have that works for Godin was letting me know a CH shape rosewood model will be coming out soon. Most likely the same as the Artist Studio CH but with a sunburst finish. I have already seen some photos of prototypes show up in the Seagull Instagram page.

Why on earth does most Godin guitars have the 1.72 nut? I dont get it. You do all your research, watch all the RUclips videos, get to start likeing it and then BOOM it hits you its not a 1.75 that most of us love!! I dont think this Manufacturer listens.
I understand the frustration you're feeling however I find the 1.8" nut on the Seagull lines to be more comfortable than a 1.75". I had a martin with the 1.75 nut and I find my Seagull feels better with both fingerstyle AND strumming!

@@dylanthomas7443 You can't go wrong with with the classic S6 Original. I've never played one that I did not like but if you are looking for a solid wood guitar, the Maritime SWS Natural AE is a great option!
