- An introduction to the my new Military Mortise Kit. A fairly detailed explanation of the tool and its use.
This video is for instructional purposes only. Working with tools like this is dangerous. Do so at your own risk.

Thank you very much for the tutorial. I am excited to start using my new set.
Another great video! Well done, Jeff!
Frou frou for the intro music?! NOICE!!!! I dig it.👍👍👍

that is a great video, and eye opening. thanks Jeff.
Excellent explanation!
Very good how to vids , thank you my friend
I want a lathe desperately. I make pipes but I buy the pre-drilled with stem already attached and I just shape it with a dremel.
James Bond I started with only a dremel. It’s a GREAT way to learn some chops!
That was a nice video Jeff, but could you show some close ups of the finished product when you get to each step?
Well, I made this years ago, so I think that time has passed. Maybe in the future, though!
Hello Jeff, what is the thickness of the tube? and what is the thickness of the mortise hole?
I think the brass is 1.5mm thickness. The mortise hole is in two sizes: 5/8 & 1/2"
love imogen heap
+Febeleh You have great taste! Check out the Jeff Beck and Imogen Heap live at Ronnie Scotts vid, you might like it.
I have a question. My friend told me to not use glue on pipe. Isn ´t bad using a super glue that can probably melt while you smoking ?
It depends where you are using it, for what purpose, and what kind of glue. Never use it anywhere that will touch the fire or smoke.

What's the best black paint to use to paint pipes with?
Try alcohol dyes made for leather.
why is freehand drilling called danish style?
Because it was invented in Denmark...?
Yes, that is the country of origin. Freehand drilling was first ascribed to sixten ivarsson who figured out how drill shapes that otherwise couldn't be done solely with a lathe. With this new technique the design possibilities explode.
I received the bit kit the other day and I was pleased to see that you actually honored my request to draw a picture of a pipe on the box. I didn't expect the drawing to be on the inside of the box, but that was better I think. The quality was such that I will most likely place another order sometime. I just need to let my penny jar fill up again. I'm scared to death to use this thing now, but I will give it a try sometime soon. I need to go get some brass stock first. Your videos have been invaluable for my pipe making enlightenment. The path is long and I greatly value the J. Alan road signs along the way. Thanks again for the great customer service. www.6-pk.com/pipes/art/j-alan-art.jpg
