- Blush Anthems presents Khoon Mera Saaf hai is an anthem that is designed to ring a bell in the conscience of the society that brings out the irony of our society when it comes to menstruating women. Women are not allowed to step inside temples when menstruating, they are not allowed to cook or ‘touch the pickle’. However, people are out there taking bribes, spreading filth in the open, is something that is often overlooked and forgiven.

Just some days back when my niece in 9th standard went to our nearby shop to buy a sanitary napkin packet, the shopkeeper tried to shame her saying,"Can you buy me one for me too?". When she turned back and asked which thing he meant, he answered Maggi because she bought Maggi also. She knew he was talking about the pack of pads. She went alone that day as usual and I was surprised at the words of the elder shopkeeper because we thought him to be a good person. Irony is he himself has two daughters. We have decided not to send her again to buy anything, let alone pads, if possible. Am writing this because I want to let people know how sanitary napkins is still seen as something different from common things. I don't know what is there to shame a small girl for going to buy it from a shop.

Great message ladies. As a reproductive Biologist I can only say that this the same blood which will be used to make a baby if the woman gets pregnant. If not then it is shed by the body as menstrual cycle/ periods. Who says it is is dirty blood??? Every human being is made by this blood in their respective mothers womb. I seriously feel this mind set has been made when facilities were not there to be very clean therefore temples were forbidden and also household work was so very difficult as mostly everything was done sitting down and women got some rest during those days. Lastly I think it was and is a male dominated society and change is not happening soon. Keep up the good work.

there are men who sleep with women all night where they shouldn't be and make pooja in the morning even without totally bathing but if girls have periods they are forbidden I remember my days when I had to use paper from notebooks to stop my heavy bleeding because even my mom was not interested supplying me necessities

I friend of mine told me that when she was in school, her classmates found a sanitary napkin in her bag and bullied or made fun of her for it. Those boys were such assholes for doing that, we really need more videos like this so we can openly talk about periods and the fact that nothing about them is unnatural.
Alhamdulillah we Muslims don't have these issues... Even the lady in her periods can freely roam around the whole house without any problem as others... She can cook food for everyone in home, she can work in house and go out with her family wherever she wills.... Only two things according to my knowledge no sexual inter course and no praying because she is in pain so the religion allows her to have rest during her difficult time (periods).

With due respect and regards to all the ladies of this world, who go through this every month. I just wanted to mention about the segment which mentions that ladies are forbidden from entering kitchen during their periods, it is probably to prevent exaggeration and a request to them to relax and take good care of themselves. This is what I believe I don't know if it has a religious aspect to it also.

in western indian culture women with periods were not allowed to enter prayer and spiritual circles also, but during these periods they did some on their own because there was a special moment
to be connected with themselves; they also made prayer and spiritual gatherings on these times with other women of their community who also had periods. I think if we consider this fact and if we study other traditionnal civilisation maybe we could see other reasons than dirt.
In an other way some women on the western indian path (Lakota tradition) told me that "priests" (or shaman) didn't like them to be there because on the periods times women were very strong with a special energy but could also be very negative (or like witches), specialy if they didn't connect enough on their inner soul before coming and had personnal problems or strong emotions stucked.
that's also why theses periods moments may be special for self introspection and purifying of ego and emotionnal things.
some other women told me also that in ancient times communities didn't want these periods women to be there because they were living in nature and the smell of blood was exciting predators like wolves (or hungry tigers for india)who came near the village and women were staying in a special closed house.
If you have periods you can hide it to the community there's nothing wrong but be sure you are clear inside emotionnaly. Periods are not dirty, it's a special time to be connected to our inner place, to purify it and make it strong, beautifull and humble.It's also a time when you can (if you want to!)do things you like or want to do like painting, creating, have some rest, meditating, or so many other things; but I imagine in ancient time if you needed to be alone other people would take care of your children if you had some and asked for it because all people of the community were like uncles and aunties, From France with love.
As a man I feel ashamed of the Indian society where open deification is ok but talking about periods is crime.
I have been to America and Europe where they also feel uncomfortable on this topic but not to the level of India.
People who have these kind of thought should not marry women.

Hey! You're right... Although, I don't think that was the intention, the only reason might be them looking and staring at women as if something is wrong... According to what I think and that is not fixed to a location or skin color
We have also shown women in that duration. We've shown how a woman sometimes doesn't let menstruating women enter the kitchen.
It's not about just women or men, it's actually the thought that resides in many. And that's what we have tried portraying.
