    There's a neat method book to help with that called "Mandolin for Violinists" which includes some backing tracks you can use as your background band.

    Because the Mandolin is tuned like a Violin, it's an ideal 2nd instrument for Violinists, a Tenor Guitar tuned like a Violin down an Octave (GDAE) could be their 3rd instrument, & a Tenor Banjo tuned like a Violin can be their 4th instrument. The frets will make it easier to find the notes (there are Fretted Violins too).

      These are great ideas!

      An octave mandolin tuned GDAE could be their fifth instrument. A mandocello, albeit tuned to CGDA could be their sixth instrument. An electric fender mandostrat could be their seventh instryument.

    This is such an informative video from a violinist perspective, which is perfect for me, thanks 😊
    I don't have a mandolin yet, but that's a minor detail, lol

    Mandolin is a great 2nd instrument for Violinists, cause learning to strum Chords kicks in.

    • @JonathanHWarren
      @JonathanHWarren  3 года назад +1

      Absolutely! Chords can be such a foreign concept on violin... but on mandolin they become a fundamental! Love the mandolin for this reason too.

    I totally agree that being a multi-instrumentalist increases one's ability to develop new ways of soloing along with boosting an understanding of an arrangement. Picking up the bass along with violin and mandolin really gave me added insight.

    Amazing play and so informative about how to play mandolin and get so captivating melodies/harmonies. As a guitar composer/performer for book trailers about comics who also trained on viola and is still influenced by orchestral players, your modeling here and playing is captivating since you explain nicely how to pick and inspire various musical ideas that can be compared to violin or any instrument. Many cheers!

    The Mandolin is way easier to play than a Violin because it has frets & you get to play w/ a Pick. It's much easier for beginners to make a good sound on the Mandolin. Thomastik Precision Strings are Flatwound Strings designed like Violin Strings.

    I'm thinking about getting one, but being left-handed, there aren't many options to choose from. So far, only one company that I know makes one for left-handed people, but it's a bottom of the line quality.

    If you look closely. This guy is playing a McClanahan mando, meaning he probably knows way more about playing Amanda Lynn than he's letting on.
